One of the things I notice that's different in the old school London stuff is that most people used to rap in a proper London accent. Then in the late 90s to early 2000s, a new accent emerged that was particular to London youth who wanted to appear "street". Then they did it so much that it stuck 😂. A new generation grew up hearing it and learned it as normal. Now half the city actually speaks that way. I'm not saying it's good or bad. It's just evolution of society. It's been fascinating to watch.
This wasn't the start. It was 1993 which was pretty much the end of the second wave of hip hop in the UK. This was one London Posses later releases. UK hip hop mainly got going around 1983 although didn't make it to putting albums out until Faze One released 'Heroes' in 1987. We got a strong history of hip hop that's largely ignored once Grime took over.
As far as first ever UK hip hop tune, there’s Newtrament - ‘London Bridge’, released in 1983. There were arguably British rap records before this (around 1980) but these were largely parodies, so this marks the first attempt to put authentic UK hip hop to wax. To gain a good understanding of the scene we had during the ‘golden years of 1987-1993’, I’d recommended checking out the following on UA-cam: Bad Meaning Good - A documentary detailing the UK scene in the late 1980s Hijack - ‘Style Warriors Revenge’ Demon Boys - ‘Glimmity Glammity’ London Posse - ‘Beatbox Reggae Style’ Asher D & Daddy Freddy - ‘Raggamuffin Hip Hop’ Gunshot - ‘Nobody Move’ Krispy 3 - ‘It’s Hip Hop Boy’ Standing Ovation - ‘Shadows of Mayhem’ Overlord X - ‘14 days in May’ Caveman - ‘I’m ready’ Blade - ‘Survival of the Hardest Working’ Hardnoise - ‘Untitled’ As you will note from listening to the above, the UK sound at this time was fiercely hardcore, with relentless fast beats and lots of scratching, with a clear Jamaican/Reggae influence. It’s no surprise then that, by the early 90s, with American hip hop becoming slower and more melodic, many UK hip hop fans moved across to Jungle - which of course would later evolve into Drum & Bass, Garage, Dub Step and eventually Grime.
@@lokibrux I don't understand your point bro. Besides, my understanding is that London Posse formed around 1986, although not sure why that's relevant.
I been into American Hip Hop all my life since Grandmaster Flash here in the U.K, this London Posse joint is one of the finest Hip Hop records ever! 11/10.
To learn some UK hip hop history I'd recommend looking up Demon Boys - Glimmity Glammity Hijack - Style Wars Blade - Mind of an Ordinary Citizen Hardnoise - Untitled Cash Crew - Ghetto Circumstances Krispy 3 - Its Hip Hop Boy
I second this person's comment 👆 You're taking a different and very welcome approach to the UK shit. Only found your channel very recently. Gotta give a tip of the hat mate. Probably won't get you millions of views but real heads will appreciate the effort. You can throw in a few Eminem joints to bump up the numbers now and again I suppose.
@@fumurph thank u brother respect I appreciate….naaa no shady even tho he’s the Goat but I don’t wanna do joints just for views cuz that would be to fake for me
"more puff than the magic dragon" refers to marijuana, the lines after is "the spliff look large / because we put the whole bag in"...a classic UK hip hop tune and love the fact you're reviewing it. Blue hat rapper is Bionic, the other is Rodney P.

London Posse 😊 they started sometimes in the mid 80‘s. Real pioneers in the UK. Maybe you can do a reaction to NTM from France, also very much pioneers, started with Bboying, painting and moved on with rap. My suggestion „Qu’est-ce qu’on attend“.
Wouldn't say Americans, more like New Yorkers because even back then the East Coast (not all but most) only cared for New York rappers and weren't really down with the West Coast or Dirty South.
