Amazing! I checked that I liked this video some time before but I never remember seeing any of this. What a nice surprise. Great looking boards appear like they are original equipment.

I'm very impressed with your toner transfer PCBs, they're extremely clean, you clearly put a lot of time and effort into it. Amazing work.

I love that your "backyard method" circuit boards and "junk box" components look better than most quote unquote professional boards. Your layouts look like artwork. Nice work!

I would say that back in the day, they enclosed the case to provide a temperature stable enviornment. and possible keep out RF. Lots of the older solid state test equipment was designed this way. keep em comming, Greg.

Absolutely love your approach to electronic mods. Its exemplary. Given the boards are homemade without the help of expensive industrial devices.

Nice modification; although as you said they did not bother with ported holes to help dissipate the heat. I would assume the reasoning is replacement, but the way you have it set up for your personal needs indicates it will last for years. "Excellent Demonstration"

I used to have a panel-mount Anadex frequency counter with Nixie tubes in it. It came off of an old Monarch lathe and served as a digital RPM indicator.

Really cool how you can made boards without lots of problems. I remember when I had a boss over a decade ago that made his own boards using silk screen printing, and I was the one that had to fix the holes in the traces.

I like Nixie tube, I also have a counter with Nixie tube.
You could use circuits intended for Nixie. Our Czech brand has designation TESLA MH74141 or manufacture of Texas designation SN74141. You do not have to use a combination MPSA42 and BCD decoder.
Unfortunately the decoders are not produced, but for example through the bazaar can get.

74141 chips are still being produced in Belarus as the 155ID1.

Request to go over the stock Monsanto 5v linear power supply section. I picked up an 100c and 5v dead. An odd teepee of two components on the 6.2v zener from schematics and was hoping to gain insight on what looks to be a company semi hack. Thanks Paul

Hi Stephen, as you can see, I'm kinda fond of Nixies. I have built many of this variant for my ham op friends. I will do a video on the construction of the board with schematics in the future. Thanks for watching! Stop by any time.

Ah I'm already resigned to the fact, hopefully they're not some crazy, hard to find size. I'm trying to restore my Tek TM5600 chassis and do you think I can find an 1100uf, 200V cap anywhere in Australia? Gah!

Hi Paul. I'm with Scott. Mow watching your course.
I was a carpenter. Now retired I have a shop of many hats. How do I start (would you build) building a Nixie Tube rpm display with an integrated actuator of the factory installed router speed control for a Milwaukee 5625. Making a router table so I can then make the cabinetry to watch you with my Epson projector to help me get the big picture.

I recently got a Monsanto101C counter. It lights up well but won't count, only shows 10000 .. Do you know where I can get a pdf of the schematic or of similar model? The problem is likely in one of the several power regulators but I have no way to know what the voltages are. Ebay has schematic/manuals but the cost is 2x what I paid for this oldie!

  • @klystron44

Nice Mod. classic ham stuff, but would linking Tx & Rx to a Freq. standard have been an option? Those long legged IC's I have seen before but I cannot remember where. Seems like a time shift, Nixie's were around with 5volt logic, but would have thought long gone by the time 3.3volt came into use. We were always about a year behind the US anyway.

    • @MrCarlsonsLab
      @MrCarlsonsLab  9 років тому +1

+klystron44 Strange IC's indeed! A few have failed, so luckily I had the old pcb cards from the display units to take some IC's from. I think it may be a "whisker "problem inside the original IC's.
