Keep your receipts. When you fill up at some top tier stations you get a warranty against engine damage caused by bad gas. Whether or not you can collect on that is questionable. Recently a Sam's Club reportedly had diesel in their regular gasoline tanks. Hard to imagine how that error would have happened (color blind fuel delivery driver?).
Several years back my mechanic advised one gas tank of Chevron regular gas per oil change to get the right amount of their techroline additive. I usually time that fill up to when I’m in a different state where the gas price is way lower than mine & Chevron gas in this one town seems to be cheapest on West Coast. Has worked for me, along with only buying gas at top tier stations.
You don't need Top Tier gas if your car is driven for long commute daily. Gas engines are designed for self-cleaning when there are driven for long distances, except those equipped with "direct injection only" aka GDI where this technology causes a lot of carbon deposits because the gas does not pass through and clean the inlet air valve. Toyota in recent models equipped their engines with direct injection, but in the same time kept the port injection and the computer alternates between the two kinds, one for regular driving that passes the gas through the valve and keep it clean, and the other is the direct injection that helps save gas and get a better acceleration and better MPG. Having two sets of injectors in new Toyotas is a brilliant idea.
When Costco and Sam's pick up fuel in the Chamblee Doraville area of Atlanta, the drivers don't stop on the way to add additives to the 8000 gallon truck tanker for your delivery, the refinery did this already, every oil change, put a tank of premium or non ethanol fuel in the car. I have toyoto's, three of them with over 300k miles, no problems. The biggest problem is maintenance at the station and water getting into the tanks by neglect or old pumps, don't buy fuel at a station that does low volume of fuel sales.
99% of my gas has come from Costco since 1995 my truck runs perfect ,the inside of the tailpipe is spotless, i get great gas mileage- same tacoma 2005 4 door prerunner for 18 years. absolutely best choice for cost and quality- along with name brands

The Top Tier ingredients are added at the station. Costco has installed the necessary tank and equipment at their stations.
@@jainga1478 Considering the work ethic of most employees under 40, I would question that this actually gets done unless the equipment is automatic.
At our old Costco, it was added by employees manually. The new store It's automated from a underground tank.

The only things the fuel might effect before combustion is the pump and injectors.
Top Tier gas is always more expensive than regular, outside of the warehouse clubs

I have had no issues with Sam’s club gasoline. Over 130k on my Ford Escape using their gasoline and no issues with my car.
Costco recieves the same fuel from the refinery and Costco adds their own additives themselves from an underground tank.
