Stop the comparisons and who's better than who! Carrie is amazing, and Kelly is incredible! Kelly SLAYED this! No auto tune. Nothing fancy. Just a woman and a mic who has one of the best voices on this planet!
Barbara Baer shes not trying to prove anything? Kelly covers other artist’s songs all the time. Shes openly expressed how much she liked this song when she heard it from Carrie. They’re 2 completely different versions. Kelly isn’t screaming. That’s soul.
I'd say every artist in the world is terrified of Kelly covering them. I thought Carrie's vocal was impeccable, but Kelly Clarkson just took this song to a whole other level. I think without doubt, she is definitely one of the best, if not the best, vocalists of her generation.
The difference in the versions is that Carrie is telling a story when she sings. Pretty much in all her songs she tells a story from a third person view. That is just the way she phrases/sings the notes. Kelly on the other hand, probably because of her exposure to soul/r&b/jazz/blues music, emotes the song as if she was feeling the pain. She is living the story of the song in the moment, and she usually does that to most of her songs.
I agree. I discovered Carrie's version first and her belts were so strong and sturdy and she can sing without a doubt but this Clarkson version has a much more rich story
Listening to Kelly sing this song is like someone telling you the story of what happened in the relationship because she does it with such perfect emotion and melisma while Carrie is just singing the song and holding those notes long without any change in timbre or loud or soft passages. It's like listening to a foghorn blow in the night. Kelly owns this song now until someone does it better than her, but after Kelly touches upon a song, no one else should ever sing that song "live" again.
Simply outstanding. There's something so unsettling and haunting about her rendition. She sings from her soul! One of the best vocalists on the planet!
People should really stop comparing because there is no comparison. Kelly is a higher caliber singer and performer in every way. Her range and pipes plus the emotion she puts into every song cannot be topped. Yes this was Carrie's song, but Kelly owns it in my opinion. So beautiful Kelly. She never fails to move me.
Carrie is technically good singing this song, But Kelly reaches down to the depth of her soul pulling out and singing the lyrics from a deep place where she has not doubt experienced every word of this song. I hope Kelly records this song!
I get the feeling that Kelly has lived this song at one time in her life. The emotion she adds is chilling. What a talent. The song is also wonderful - words and music in perfect sync.
People who typically say that don't know anything about music theory or what stylized singing really is. Kelly didn't TRY to do anything, she made it her own. Both ladies can sing impeccably and have VERY different styles.
Just viewed Jeremy's performance of this song and he did a nice job. That said, no one, can touch Kelly Clarkson and her stunning performances of this song. She is truly a GREAT singer.
Carrie has the clarity of Olivia Newton John. Kelly has the grits and guts of Mariah Carey both back in their prime. Both version effectively sends chills down my spine. When Kelly takes a song she owns it. Nobody can sing Olivia song better than Olivia. Kelly did a fine job with Hopelessly Devoted to you.
Kelly's cover is AMAZING!! Like carries too. But I think they have very diff singing styles. Kelly is soul n carries more pop. Boils down to which style u like better. But can't deny this is a very touching rendition if u have functioning ears.
the song is really about the complexities of human emotion i feel like kelly delivers in the different depths of the lyrics. where as carrie youre right. its just simple.
I love this song it is beautiful and it makes me cry and I will listen to it over and over again. Thanks to Jeremy Rosado. The young man has a wonderful voice. He song it on American Idol. I love listening to him Carrie or Kelly. I love it.
Is there anything this woman can't sing?! There is no debate about who sings this better. Carrie's a run-of-the-mill singer who sounds like alot of others out there but Kelly takes every song to another level. Magnificent!
Its really neat, that in each of her different concerts she chose to cover an artists song. Particularly, when I saw her in Nashville, TN - on the last day of her American Tour she covered a Vince Gill song, and Also did Fun. And it was really eye opening to see her sing - she is truly truly a gifted voice.
I love this song! And I can honestly say..I love all 3 versions, whether its Kelly,Carrie or Jeremy. I think they all did a great job :) I have to stop listening to this song cause it makes me cry
Warren Carter FIRST OFF TAKE THAT SACK OF SHIT HUSTEN OFF THAT LIST OF TALENTED LEGENDS. THAT BITCH SHITNEY HUSTEN WILL NEVER DESERVE TO BE ON A LIST OF SUCH REAL SINGERS REAL LEGENDS AND REAL TALENTS AS MARIAH KELLY CELINE AND CARRIE. SECOND OF ALL CELINE MARIAH KELLY AND CARRIE ARE ALL EQUALLY AS TALENTED AS EACH OTHER
the original is amazing. carrie is AMAZING. and kelly sounds amazing in this too. i think theyre both so different versions. they both do an amazing job
I love both Kelly and Carrie's versions. They are my my IDOLS!!!! I really wish they would duet together. They should release this as their first single together.
Carries amazing but kelly is almost untouchable.. And I like the fact it's powerful..showcases how good she is..she has the talent and she's showcasing it
rarely do people do better than the the original on covers, but when i saw this i said this is how u outdo the original, I dont care what anyone says, she sang this better than carrie underwood to me. i felt it, it was emotional, one of the best vocals ever, if she is not in the top 5 best belters and voices out there then idk who is!
Flick Flick I have such high adoration for Carrie's strong and superhuman belts but I agree, she can sing the same note over and over without fatigue whereas Kelly can sing with a massive range and a better story
Is it bad that I loved Carrie Underwoods version of this song since 2007. But after hearing this I now love this one and cannot listen to the original lol
I didn't even know Underwood sang this song...I saw Kelly sing it "unplugged", and I'm not Kelly or Carrie fan BUT after seeing Kelly "unplugged" WOW!!! this song is just amazing, you can't sing a song like that unless you've been hurt, you can feel the hurt when she's singing...all the songs Kelly did on "unplugged" sounded great, but I esp. loved "I know you won't"
Sorry I am not one who wants to dog on another person's tastes or opinion. I like Carrier Underwood alright and certain songs in particular, but Carrie CANNOT compare to the beautiful tone, power, maturity, and emotion Kelly Clarkson has in her voice and can put into her songs. Heard Kelly's version of this first, and fell in love with it. When I listen to Carrie's version it is just boring in comparsion. Kelly kills this, and she is the only version I will listen too. Love you Kelly. :D
@seven3eight i don't know about desperation, the lyrics (for me) speak to the despair of trusting someone and giving them chance after chance and the being in that state where you finally realize they've failed you and are never gonna be who they promise they will, when you just stop believing in them. that's the point of the whole "i know you, i know you, i know you..won't" chorus. ehhh, but songs are subjective and a diffrent voice or tempo/key will change the whole thing.
I love Carrie more, but Kelly did her song justice! I love Kelly, but I am still a Care-Bear through and through, but I don't really want to compare to amazing singers! Carrie, Kelly, P!nk, Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Nettles and Christina Aguilera are some of the absolutely best singers of this generation! :D
@Dean814 And I like carrie's version, but i LIVEEE for powerful singers and belters because in my opinion its so rare, especially to do it right without screaming and she does it, and makes me feel the song.
Stop the comparisons and who's better than who! Carrie is amazing, and Kelly is incredible! Kelly SLAYED this! No auto tune. Nothing fancy. Just a woman and a mic who has one of the best voices on this planet!
I like to know why is she singing carrie song and than comparing her to carrie what is she trying to prove and the screaming does it no justice

I agree. I discovered Carrie's version first and her belts were so strong and sturdy and she can sing without a doubt but this Clarkson version has a much more rich story
jaydel3 That’s so crazy. I never thought about it like that before... you’re absolutely right though.
jaydel3: spot on!!
SLAYED. When Kelly is on her game, she astounds me.
im a carrie fan but i dont think anybody can deny the godsend this is. bar = none.
Jesus. This version is just unreal.
Ardenwolfe BOTH versions are EQUALLY as unreal as the other
@@countrygirlcountrymusiclov9947 nah. Kelly's version is much more emotional. Both are vocal beasts, but Kelly is the alpha beast in that case.
Listening to Kelly sing this song is like someone telling you the story of what happened in the relationship because she does it with such perfect emotion and melisma while Carrie is just singing the song and holding those notes long without any change in timbre or loud or soft passages. It's like listening to a foghorn blow in the night. I LOVE CARRIE UNDERWOOD,,,,,BUT PLEASE ,,,,,,,,,KELLY SLAYS THIS !!!!!!!!!!
She can sing really anything...like litterally
She is so phenomenal. The voice of a generation without question.
Carrie is a talented young woman but no one holds a candle to Ms. Clarkson.
Goodness. That voice is angelic yet strong
kelly killed this song carrie cant touch this!!!
these vocals from 2:25 on !!! heartfelt too !!! she perfectly combines technique and emotion!
Kelly is the best singer of all time!
randomymous ONE of the best singers of all time
EVEN BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL SINGER OF THIS SONG
Love this version.. I cannot sing a note , if I could steal someones vocals I'd steal Kelly's.love her
Simply outstanding. There's something so unsettling and haunting about her rendition. She sings from her soul! One of the best vocalists on the planet!
KELLY CLARKSON'S VOICE = FLAWLESS! the best singer in a whole world! Trust me!
Kelly can sing anything and it sounds better than the original. even when she messes up.
The amazing thing about this version is that it is a LIVE version. How good is Kelly Clarkson? No words are enough.
Carrie is technically good singing this song, But Kelly reaches down to the depth of her soul pulling out and singing the lyrics from a deep place where she has not doubt experienced every word of this song. I hope Kelly records this song!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Can't stop listening to this.
i watched this video...then i watched Carrie's original version...then obviously i'm back in this video...:) it's freaking amazing cover...:)
The original version is not even near that one. Amazing! Kelly is the best voice of this generation!
Kelly sure does this Carrie song justice. Fantastic!
She must record this. Gorgeous interpretation from start to finish. I keep trying to pick a favorite moment, but it's futile. It's all an A+.
I get the feeling that Kelly has lived this song at one time in her life. The emotion she adds is chilling. What a talent. The song is also wonderful - words and music in perfect sync.
Kelly and Carrie are both riding high at the top of their game right now, and we get to reap the great musical rewards!
People who typically say that don't know anything about music theory or what stylized singing really is. Kelly didn't TRY to do anything, she made it her own. Both ladies can sing impeccably and have VERY different styles.
Just vocal perfection, a masterpiece of emotion 🥰🥰🥰🎶🎶🎶🎶😱
Just viewed Jeremy's performance of this song and he did a nice job. That said, no one, can touch Kelly Clarkson and her stunning performances of this song. She is truly a GREAT singer.
Unreal, wow
tHIS IS the most beautiful song kelly has ever sung thank you guy
Carrie has the clarity of Olivia Newton John. Kelly has the grits and guts of Mariah Carey both back in their prime. Both version effectively sends chills down my spine. When Kelly takes a song she owns it. Nobody can sing Olivia song better than Olivia. Kelly did a fine job with Hopelessly Devoted to you.

Kelly Clarkson does the BEST covers all the timeeee!
I love it soo much :) She doesn't even try she just knows how to sing.
the song is really about the complexities of human emotion i feel like kelly delivers in the different depths of the lyrics. where as carrie youre right. its just simple.
I love this song it is beautiful and it makes me cry and I will listen to it over and over again. Thanks to Jeremy Rosado. The young man has a wonderful voice. He song it on American Idol. I love listening to him Carrie or Kelly. I love it.
The interpretation from that first line is everything !!!
Is there anything this woman can't sing?! There is no debate about who sings this better. Carrie's a run-of-the-mill singer who sounds like alot of others out there but Kelly takes every song to another level. Magnificent!
haters..kelly sings with emotion... i prefer kelly. hands down
Its really neat, that in each of her different concerts she chose to cover an artists song. Particularly, when I saw her in Nashville, TN - on the last day of her American Tour she covered a Vince Gill song, and Also did Fun. And it was really eye opening to see her sing - she is truly truly a gifted voice.
I love both Carrie and Kelly equally and this is one of my favourite songs!! Both lovely ladies do it justice ;)
Both versions are amazing. I prefer this one, but I am not a big country music fan. These ladies both have incredible voices!
omg it's so prettyyyyyyy
Perfect,just perfect!
Kelly leaves them all in the dust! Amazing!!!
I love this song! And I can honestly say..I love all 3 versions, whether its Kelly,Carrie or Jeremy. I think they all did a great job :) I have to stop listening to this song cause it makes me cry
Wow. Love her version as well!!!! ❤️
Love it!! Carrie's is great, but this is absolutely amazing!! Both great voices!! They should do a duet!!
I am so in love with this song..... Kelly's version that is.
Love Carrie ,,,but Kelly is another Whitney,Mariah,Celine,,,,,kellys vocals are unmatched
Warren Carter FIRST OFF TAKE THAT SACK OF SHIT HUSTEN OFF THAT LIST OF TALENTED LEGENDS. THAT BITCH SHITNEY HUSTEN WILL NEVER DESERVE TO BE ON A LIST OF SUCH REAL SINGERS REAL LEGENDS AND REAL TALENTS AS MARIAH KELLY CELINE AND CARRIE. the original is amazing. carrie is AMAZING. and kelly sounds amazing in this too. i think theyre both so different versions. they both do an amazing job
I didn't think it were possible, but this is even better than the performance at the Troubadour!
wow. multiple chills
I love both Kelly and Carrie's versions. They are my my IDOLS!!!! I really wish they would duet together. They should release this as their first single together.
wow! what a voice...love u kelly :)
Kelly is amazing! I can't add anything that's already been said on others posts. Well maybe..'WOW!'
That's how Kelly does it! Sing it!
Carries amazing but kelly is almost untouchable.. And I like the fact it's powerful..showcases how good she is..she has the talent and she's showcasing it
One word: superior.
rarely do people do better than the the original on covers, but when i saw this i said this is how u outdo the original, I dont care what anyone says, she sang this better than carrie underwood to me. i felt it, it was emotional, one of the best vocals ever, if she is not in the top 5 best belters and voices out there then idk who is!
Thank you I totally agree with you a 100%
They both sing this really really well. I like both versions.
Chills **
If u r going to sing someone else song, u have to make it yours, and DAMN! she did just that!!! I prefer Kelly's version anyday!!!
I love this
I LOVE THIS SONG. MAKE MY HEART CRY. DESIR ADIOS ES DURO,PERO MAS DURO ES SABER QUE YA NUNCA REGRESARAS.....
beautiful...haunting!
While I love both Carrie and Kelly version. Kelly's has more soul when she sings. Kelly is one of the best vocalists of the last 10 years hands down.
Wendell Mobley can write the greatest songs that can be sang by any genre.
♥.♥ tears...
awesome!
I love carrie underwood but the pure emotion that kelly sang this with really made me prefer her version over carries.
i like kellys version and carries because they're like two very different versions! which is what covering is all about!
amen amen, I heard that.
Kelly sounds truly heartbroken in this version. Whereas, Carrie mainly shows that she has superhuman vocal stamina....
I prefer Kelly's version, it's so much more emotion filled ... Carrie's can be a bit mechanical although still brilliant.
Flick Flick I have such high adoration for Carrie's strong and superhuman belts but I agree, she can sing the same note over and over without fatigue whereas Kelly can sing with a massive range and a better story
this is nice. i prefer this
Is it bad that I loved Carrie Underwoods version of this song since 2007. But after hearing this I now love this one and cannot listen to the original lol
BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL SINGER, SORRY BUT YES
Thank you Wendell Mobley for writing this song
crazy, totally crazy!!!!
Preach it!
youre ridiculous. they're both fantastic in what they do. there is no need to say one is better.
her voice is so silky and full of emotion...
I have to laugh when people try to dish one singer over another, they both are great, just different voices and styles.
This performance is like a "stop the comparisons, here's the proof that I'm the best Idol EVER". lol
kelly can!
Me too :)
Sorry I am not one who wants to dog on another person's tastes or opinion. This just shows that Kelly can sing a Carrie song well, but if Carrie tried to sing a Kelly song, it'd be a joke.
I love Carrie more, but Kelly did her song justice! I love Kelly, but I am still a Care-Bear through and through, but I don't really want to compare to amazing singers! @Dean814 And I like carrie's version, but i LIVEEE for powerful singers and belters because in my opinion its so rare, especially to do it right without screaming and she does it, and makes me feel the song.
its like a car wreck...can't turn your eyes away!
KELLY RECORD THIS SONG
