      Thanks, Randy, I realized after I got this one and took it apart, that it would be pretty easy to make. I look forward to seeing what you do.

    I’m using the type that clamps on like a clothespin. The type that you are using I think allows for more precision. Nice upgrade to the mill. Cheers from West Virginia.

      I had one of those as well and it never seemed align with the threads where I needed it. We will see if I made the right choice.

    Maybe if you have it off again , turn a bit of the OD away so the push button sticks out further . I was thinking about going the other way , with a set of spacer tubes instead . It will be interesting to see how repeatable the stops are with those speed nuts . Cheers .

      Thanks Max, I really appreciate the stream of useful ideas and tips I get from your channel. Based on a small test I did with the Mitutoyo DRO on the quill, the stop was repeatable to 0.0005".

    Much better than the clamp type..Thanks for sharing !

      I bought one of the clamp types a few months ago and it never seemed to be able to be set where you you needed it, if precision was necessary.

    Robert I have no experience with the cameras you use what so ever.
    Is it possible to mount one on a visor like Mr.Pete uses for close up work and keep your hands free ?

    • @DudleyToolwright
      @DudleyToolwright  3 роки тому

      That is a nice idea, but I use sony handicams and they are a bit big and bulky for that type of mount. I appreciate the suggestion.

    I have a taiwanese Eumega mill that is with the same M marked below the head of the unit. Do you know what that might stand for?

    • @DudleyToolwright
      @DudleyToolwright  8 місяців тому +1

      That is really interesting, but no, I don't. I wonder if they copied or chare a casting mold?

      @@DudleyToolwright Maybe just a longer button... or even a thumb screw type handle hanging off of the button - unless you need it to spin. It looks like it tries to turn when you depress the button. Just some very general bainstorm

    • @DudleyToolwright
      @DudleyToolwright  2 роки тому

      You make so good observations. I need to see what the rear clearance is on the stopping nut.

    • @dizzolve
      @dizzolve 2 роки тому

      @@DudleyToolwright Here's an idea. It looks like clearance is 0 when I look at the thumbnail to this video. What if you take it off and disassemble... put the main body in the lathe and reduce everywhere it's not knurled(the numbered and indexed area) to expose part of the button ..... then you can shape whatever of the button sticks out ~so it can be pinched AND pushed. That might work for me

    I put one on my mill, and it is a real pain to use. I need to take it all apart again and shorten the spring on the stop to make it easier to press.

    • @DudleyToolwright
      @DudleyToolwright  3 роки тому

      Interesting feedback. The spring in mine is pretty tight as well. I wonder if easing up the tension will make the stop slip or wobble. Let me know.

    I was using cutting fluid with kerosene in it and eat the silicone buttons off my calipers.

    • @DudleyToolwright
      @DudleyToolwright  3 роки тому

      That is really good to note. I can't even get kerosene in California any more. It is great to know that there are solvents that can attack the buttons.

    Why not use a “camera” holder vrs attempting to operate with one hand. Watch your own videos.

    • @DudleyToolwright
      @DudleyToolwright  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the tip. I always watch my own videos. It typically takes a few hours to edit a video. I realized when I was editing this video that some of the footage was poor. I thought the image stabilization would help, but it was inadequate. Of course, there is no helping poorly framed shots.

    Manhattan Supply has been busy putting all of it’s competition out of business or buying them up (Enco) and charging higher and higher prices because of it. I never buy anything from them. Virtually 99% of what they sell can be found elsewhere at significantly lower prices with a little searching.

      Many of the common verbal abbreviations are strange like that. Typically when I hear people talk about tenths, I think they are talking about 1/10,000ths. Go figure.
