You know, there are other reasons to like this than just "OMG THE BLUECOATS PLAYED THIS BLOOOO XD," but whatever floats your boat. It's a beautiful piece on it's own, no matter who played it. Yes, this is almost an exact transcription of their 2014 ballad, but come on, guys, give Vienna Teng the credit she deserves. Disclaimer: I do love the bluecoats, don't get me wrong; I just think it's unfair to give all the credit to them for making this song more well known, when, in my opinion, nothing can compare to the original whatsoever. No arrangement, no variety of instruments can compare to the electronic perfection that is Vienna's voice with the crisp harmonies she creates.
+MrHawkbird It's almost identical. The percussion is a bit different. But the winds are the same since the guy who made this transcription is the Brass Arranger for the Bluecoats and wrote it for them first ;)
It’s an arrangement by the exact people who did the coats one… a marching band arrangement no less. But also who gives all the credit to coats? It may be known to most of the people playing it through them, but that’s not a bad thing and it doesn’t discredit the original, plus the video goes out of its way to credit the artist as the writer in both the video itself and the description. You’re just mad for the sake of being controversial
Gotta disagree partner... To execute this piece well takes a highly skilled band capable of proper balance and strong knowledge of chord structure and advanced music theory.
TILT FTW XD (Really, the Blue Devils *were* obviously fantastic ... but TILT is the one i recall easiest, and it definitely more memorable. By the way, go look at the vocal version. Then look up Acxiom. Creeeeepy and disturbing. Beautiful, yes, but *really*
+andy kent Sorry, I should have explained. The lyrics are actually a reference to a company called Acxiom, which performs (or used to; not sure if they're still doing it) internet data mining and data harvesting for advertisers and their corporate customers. The final lyric, for example, reads "Now we will build you an endlessly upward world: reach in your pocket, embrace you for all your worth. Is that wrong? Isn't this what you want?" That "your" may in fact be "you're"; the entire text of the song is *loaded* with such hidden meanings. The overall gist of it is that we are all being monitored online constantly, and that the data we generate about ourselves is being stored, indexed, cataloged, resold, scored, and used to profile us for all manner of purposes both benign and malignant (in fact, former NSA analyst Edward Snowden actually severely understated his argument; I probably just popped a flag somewhere for typing that). It's beautifully written, very poetic... and altogether plain creepy when deciphered, all which Ms. Teng fully intended.
(I know this is almost a year late just bear with me) MuseScore's soundfont engine can't process cymbal rolls in a way that sounds realistic. If you're writing something that you want to print and perform, than accept the fact that it'll sound a little wonky on your computer, but it'll be leaps and bounds better in person. That being said, if you're writing something specifically to sound good in MuseScore, then there's a workaround. Instead of writing a long note with a roll on it, you write a bunch of 32nd notes for the same value of time. For example, let's say in the case of The Hymn of Acxiom (which is in 3/4), instead of a dotted half note with a roll, fill a bar with twenty-four 32nd notes, plus a quarter on the downbeat of the next bar. Mark the first 32nd as piano, and the quarter as fortissimo, with a crescendo connecting the ends. Now if you REALLY want it to sound better, you can change the specific cymbal sound MuseScore uses for the one specific part (without changing the soundfont, affecting the entire score). Open the mixer, and go to the cymbal part. (Assuming you're on MuseScore 3 and you see the same thing as me) There's a dropdown menu labelled "Sound." The default is Orchestra Kit, but you're gonna want to change this to Standard. Standard works as a suspended cymbal, and Orchestra Kit works as a crash cymbal. I hop this helps you out. Happy writing!
Bloo! This isnt the same one. There is woodwinds in this one. But just replace em with a picilo trumpet or a horn. Then ya got it! Isnt there suposed to be a high note at. 2:22 ish? Or am i wrong? And thats supposed to be longer. Its like the Bluecoats but not 100% though. Like 90%(woodwinds and some excluded stuff)
This was arranged by the Bluecoats' brass arranger when they played it in Tilt, so obviously just did everything he could to make a marching band arrangement that was as close as possible as to the version he arranged for Bluecoats. From what I can tell the woodwinds don't do anything special and are just doubling the part they share the same voice of, for example the alto sax is doubling the horn part. The biggest change I've noticed is he cut the front line percussion down to 2 of each, two vibes and two marimbas. I don't know exactly when Thrower wrote this version relative to the 2014 season (I know this was posted before 2015 spring training but publishers don't always post arrangements on UA-cam until they've been up a while) but if this was written before the 2014 season the Bluecoats may not have had that high note you mentioned until after he wrote this. More than likely though, Thrower too l the note out since this seems to have been written for more of a high school marching band, hence the woodwinds.
+Gemination I actually went to the Bluecoats audition camp for the 2016 season and we played this song for the parents and all the tempos and such are correct
At measure 53 there is a wrong note in the first trumpet part. In the audio the note goes up a half step but on the score it does not. I figured this out while playing along and was like " that doesn't sound like the note in the video? What's wrong?"
its really good but the Trumpets should not be that loud ! they need to be down a volume! its sounds balanced hear but in a actual band trumpets would over play that !

I like the part where the F Horn holds the first finger for 11 measures
LOL
Pie Guy same 🙃
Pie Guy, playing this in my marching band, I know the feeling
I like not breathing
I've held a C for 13 measures in Polly Olvier, it can get worse
I played this song as a warm-up for marching band my freshman year. Absolutely amazing piece
I’m a freshman trombone player and we’re doing this for warmup

THIS WILL FOREVER BE A TRADEMARK OF BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Bloo didn't write it
but the arrangement they played was *FIRE*
It seems that the person that arranged this one is the same person that arranged the Bluecoats version so...
It is!
You know, there are other reasons to like this than just "OMG THE BLUECOATS PLAYED THIS BLOOOO XD," but whatever floats your boat. It's a beautiful piece on it's own, no matter who played it.

This is actually written by the Bluecoats brass writer.
Nic Hawkins I heard this at Reno Jazz Festival
And The percussion parts are written by the bluecoats perc parts

GO OREGON CRUSADERS!! Nobody else? Okay..
Yeeeeeee
What year did they play this song?
@@the-retr0tek same as bluecoats, 2014
I'd say both Bloo and OC had an amazing arrangement of it, I love OC's alot more
I played this in my high school marching band 2 years ago. Gives me years every time I listen to it
I've listened to this like a thousand times in the past day or so tbh
Well that was just beautiful
my marching band played TILT last year. it wasnt as good as the bluecoats but this was my favorite movement
Hibiki Do you have a video?
Hibiki i'm so jealous. i wish my band did cool shows like that. ESPECIALLY Tilt
My marching band is somehow gonna play an arrangement of Vivaldis' Spring
that marimba part though
Super hard and way over written for most high school bands it is great though!
We play this song for our show in marching band, and it’s our best song ☺️
Exotic_ Dummy oml same
THAT IMPACT WAS SO GOOD AND STRONG WHAT
Doug thrower is and will always be the best brass arranger in dci history
1:50 the sheer power in that one moment
OHHHHH MY GOD AND WE'RE PLAYING THIS NEXT YEAR
Easy for the band, impossible for most mallet and percussionists in most mid-low level high schools.
Holy cow we sight read this today and all the director said was "it's repetitive" needless to say most of us held random chords
Gotta disagree partner... To execute this piece well takes a highly skilled band capable of proper balance and strong knowledge of chord structure and advanced music theory.
This is a piece id give a texas band. Everything in here is difficult in its own way
the best arrangement I've heard, by far.
This is one of the most beautiful french horn and baritone pieces i've ever heard
Trumpet master race
Beautiful brass piece
i mean it’s a choir piece originally
TILT FTW XD
(Really, the Blue Devils *were* obviously fantastic ... but TILT is the one i recall easiest, and it definitely more memorable.

Creeeeepy and disturbing. Beautiful, yes, but *really*
Kyle Nally whats so creepy about the vocal version?
+andy kent The almost "mechanical" feel to it.

We're playing this song in our show this year 😄😄
What's up aaliyah
@@ltucker8 wazzup Luke 😂😂
We did in my show last year

LET GO BLOO!!!
+Triptisim BLOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this song ❤
WE ARE HERE WE ARE THE TRUMPETS WOOOOOOO
We play this as our second movment for the show
When Doug Thrower writes the entire ballad for a concert band
BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Bloo!
How do you get suspended cymbals to work on musescore?
(I know this is almost a year late just bear with me) MuseScore's soundfont engine can't process cymbal rolls in a way that sounds realistic. What "sound pack" did you use for this? They don't sound like the standard sounds that come with Finale or Sibelius. Thanks in advance.
Percussion is stock finale sounds I believe
oh!
Shoutout to PA band
Very rarely does a marching band song have a tacet drum battery part.
Actually, a lot of ballads will have the battery play nothing.
i thought it was in a different key.... still beautiful though
+cschock 807 Original is in Db, Bluecoats performed it in Eb.
What software is this?
Im pretty sure this is recorded not samples
Bluecoats 2014 Part 3
1:44 your welcome,😌
What is this program
While I do love this, All of the parts are mostly too fast, I'd suggest lowering some tempos a bit.
It is fast but it's bluecoats' version so there are bound to be a few fast parts in it.
There isn't any fast parts. Bluecoats is plenty slower than this.
+Gemination I actually went to the Bluecoats audition camp for the 2016 season and we played this song for the parents and all the tempos and such are correct
+Trem456 Well that's fairly weird because it should be a lot slower.
could have been a change between the show version and the encore version
This is literally the Bluecoats arrangement. There is no difference other than it’s for concert band
Well yeah its arranged by the same guy
2018 irondale
What lv is this?

its really good but the Trumpets should not be that loud ! they need to be down a volume! its sounds balanced hear but in a actual band trumpets would over play that !
+kelvin smith i don't see the problem
+kelvin smith other than your use of "hear" when you should've used "here"
+Logan Comeaux stfu
+kelvin smith if your band has good trumpets they won't ijs
Dynamics are relative. Good bands don't play what's on the paper, they play according to moving lines, who has the melody, where they are, etc.
Bluecoats 2014, but worse because it has woodwinds
FACTS👌
