I'm glad I grew up during the golden era of hip-hop.. Jvc force, epmd, bdk, krsone,dj Scott la rock etc. We need this back before hip-hop becomes unrecognizable...

That beat from Strong Island is something special to me it just makes me want to do a front flip over somebody head into the middle of the dance floor straight into windmills coming off the floor without touching it into a headspin something fantastic!
How to check if there are any B Boys n B Girls in a place ?... Drop JVC Force, Strong Island. Heads that know are heads that nod. If there's enough, you'll create a Whop Pit with this tune.
A lot of people don't remember EPMD threw a diss at them called " Get of the bandwagon " because they was saying that JVC FORCE was trying to sound like them...

All these legends from 1978-2000 should be executives or owners in hip hop and or Gods to us because they were creative and are the people who made hip hop famous!! When music programs were being cut in the boroughs, Long Island kids were still carrying instruments to school. I think that accounts for some of the production. Same goes for the dirty south where the hbcu band culture imo shaped the sound
LI can go toe to toe with any borough in the golden era. What is sad is today it sort of reverted back to where people don't want to claim being from the island anymore. Even popular rappers we know for a fact came out of LI and didn't deny it back in the day try to downplay it now.
I'm a guy who grew up in LI Nassau County in th 80's. My family is from NYC we moved to LI when I was 4. I spent lots of time in the City growing up since thats where the rest of my family lived, (dad and grandma) My parents worked in Brooklyn, and all my parents friends were in the city. The difference in the music today is it's all about criminality. A person from a suburb is not going to be able to out criminal someone from the inner city. Even in the boroughs, the best emcees aren't celebrated, it's the realest Ninjas that the kids like. This is why so many "Rappers" are getting killed. Being an artist is not good enough in rap. To make it in rap you have to be a violent criminal. Pure artist are the rare exceptions in rap. Even the pioneers of Gangsta Rap (Ice Cube, Dr Dre, & Snoop) are ostracized for being studio gangsters.
@@mc365mc Agreed. For better or worse around the mid 90s, NY went that route to keep up with the West, and being from outside the city was no longer marketable. It has been that way all way to today. Hip hop as a culture and rap as an artform be damned.
@@mc365mc He went to Uniondale HS (and end of junior high out there) had a brief stint back in BK in hs, but graduated from Uniondale, his crew and career started in LI, was mentored by LI legends and had no issue repping it until it wasn't cool anymore it seems.
