I have started watching re-runs of some of my favorites of your videos.......shhhhhh, don't tell Mav......but umm, i enjoy your vids more! I would put you 2nd only to "Camping with Steve" videos! I am a long-haul truck driver from Ohio who lives in a space no bigger than your truck camper on a daily basis. Listen, don't try to figure out why people gravitate to these kinds of videos......just PLEASE just keep making them......PLEASE!!! For me, it's an escape to a different place of normalcy. I find a moment of peace. If a person has to have all the comforts of home while camping......then WHY even leave home?!?! I like average people.....you fit the bill perfectly! Not knowing everything all the time....but, learning as you go, i relate too! In an INSANE world, i find normalcy, peace, and sanity in your videos! Don't ever out-grow yourself, get cocky, and get too complicated.....the secret is "keeping it simple....and average and normal" ......plus, most importantly.......humbleness of soul!!! =)
I appreciate the kind words and support! Plenty more camping to come!
That rounded edge on your axe is good for cutting by not splitting. If you want to split wood you need a straight edge, which hits the wood end with more edge surface. (it comes down to pure physics). The soft grass is also absorbing too much of the energy from the axe blows. You need something solid under the log you are splitting.
I carry a "pruning saw" ( corona brand, 10" non-folding razor tooth push-pull cut ) in my truck at all times. Makes short work of small firewood. I enjoy your channel. It inspires me to get out more !
I picked up a Fiskers folding saw, it works great! Thank for watching!
We carry one if those as well as a hatchet, wedge splitter.
I ordered a Flatpak from Amazon like yours, I can't wait to get it. I am turning my Yukon into a camper with a similar build to your truck, so I can take off and camp on my own. Love your videos, especially the bad weather ones. You have created a safe, cozy nook for yourself and made it so workable. Looking forward to more videos.
Hey Crazy!! Just letting you know my 12 year old son, and my girl n I just love your videos. We enjoy your style, and we've actually tried a few of your dinner ideas!!! Damn those meatballs with grape jelly, and hinze chili sauce, spicy doritos! Was amazing Mike. Take care, and keep going buddy.
Awesome video brother. I have the same POS hatchet 😂 Thankfully I've upgraded many times since then. I've never seen anyone chop wood while sitting in a camp chair before. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for sharing brother 👍
It may have been said already, but what you need for your condensation issues...is a roof vent for an RV. Happy travels
Great overnight camping trip! Fantastic little grill.... perfect addition to the gear! Your camera work and editing is really coming along! Very much appreciate you taking us along!!!
Thanks! I appreciate the positive feedback!
I use Folgers Coffee Singles every time I’m out camping. Hint: after tearing off the top of the little singles bag, sniff the insides...it’s the “best part of waking up” !
Going back into the archive and making sure I like them all as I do lol I'm so bad at not liking videos but I'm working on it.
Just seeing this now, it was fantastic 👏 Greetings from the ole country 😀 Ireland ☘☘☘☘☘ 🇮🇪 😀
Awesome to see you use the Hatchet as a wedge and another piece of wood as a hammer. Smart,
Always amazing watching you at all you do luv when ur by the fire seems so relaxing to watch u .. so amazing watching you go truck camping .. have a blessed day ..
I like these long format ones, was like we were sitting there by the fire with you just hanging out. Not sure what your camera did with the focus, but great vid, and thats a nice little firepit, Ill check one out at Bass Pro!
Thanks! Yeah the gopro doesn't do well for longer shots, I need a nicer camera
@@CrazyQuady yes GoPro is primarily for 5-10 minute recordings at a time.
That looks like something I would like to buy for future very nice little stove I am seeing things on your channel I never saw before. This camp ground looks very nice, quiet and clean. I don't have a truck so I do the tent thing. But I am watching you daily and that stove is something I might add to my camping gear ⚙. I found you by accident and after 1 video I subbed. You have a very nice truck and you fixed it up so nice. My son is watching you now and he wants to convert his truck now so I am going to help him and then I can use it when he isn't working. I am learning tons from you. I rely enjoy your videos and am going thru your home page and watching those as well now my son has subbed to you as well. Will be waiting for more videos. I am packing now for a camping g trip to 🇨🇦 Canada we will visit Niagara falls then head to prince Edward Island for a 3 day camp out. Then I to Ontario for a night. I am stoked. I am going to check bass pro and check on that little fire pit. A fire pit to go I love it
Perfect size fire pit for a layer of briquettes and after cooking it would still hot for wood to burn after.
Hatchet recommendations:
Fiscars
Gerber
Zippo!
They are all on the cheaper side, but do an amazing job!!
When you get back home, drill a few 5/16” holes at the bottom and both sides of your UCO. It will draw air up into the fire and get you flames a lot quicker.
Great idea!
True
14:57 I guess i a way that is a good thing! Nice little portable fire pit. be good for ice fishing I think also.
I never thought about using it while ice fishing, great idea!
I have never seen coffee bags before. I guess it is something to look for in the grocery store.
Harbor Freight 1.25# hickory camping axe 12.99 and with a few modifications to the blade and grinding the hammer part flat and you get an amazing product
The side pocket in your door, you should put receipts or small trash paper in it for fire starting.
I usually have some homemade firestarters with, didnt refill...the bag was in my basement
Get a Fiskars hatchet. Now thats funny stuff. When you started to cook and moved everything to the table, I thought, I'd move the fire wood and set my chair right next to the table bench - then next scene...
I always keep trash bags in back 1. 2. or use a metal ash bucket for a ash
I use self lighting charcoal in my uco all the time and it works great
Fiscars hatchet Or their ax if you want something a little heavier
Never fails, you go camping in the middle of nowhere by yourself and somebody gotta drive by, everytime.
Also really enjoy how you set up shots! Great filmmaking
Thanks man!
Yikes dude. You nearly split your foot on that first swipe.
Looks like a good trip. That fire pit is pretty cool.
you need one of those little hand held battery chainsaw they work great with 4, 6, 8,in blades
You should install a couple of tailgate lift supports under the bed. Might make it a little easier, wouldnt have to worry about the wooden support faling out, or closing on your hand. Super relaxing videos, makes me want to go camping instantly and explore
Bought something similar like that off TV...
Years ago.... called the newspaper grill...
Worked awesome for grilling burgers!
Just ball up newspaper ,lite up... and your grilling! Easy peezee Japaneseezee
Don't know if someone mentioned it, but lay your sticks flat then split your wood. safe, steady, effective.
Gerber Sport axe, I did not read through the all the comments but that one is awesome!
8:31 is not he sound of woodpecker, that's the Predator growling and observing your every move.
If you ever make it to indian cave you can find that blacksmith there and he makes some pretty good pokers too.
That pre-cut firewood sometimes is hard wood. We learned that from trying to make a fire in the fireplace.
The hatchet you have is ok. Just baton your wood with hatchet. Also try splitting smaller pieces off to start with.
Small 5 pound hammer too hit the top of the Hackett too spit thd wood be better cause of the weight when u hit the top so it would be easier
*Do you have a truck/camper tour?? I would like to see what you did to set it up.*
You're do talented with camping and have the necessary equipment for camping
I never was any good at starting fires...lol I saw a guy on another video use a battery operated blower to get his started. It was a bigger pit, a blower would send yours flying..lol good luck
Heck ya man, that's a nice portable fire pit. It did it's job and thanks for sharing this product. What a nice spot to truck camp. Always enjoy the truck camping videos and thanks for making it a long one. Have a wonderful evening my friend.
It's a great little camping gadget, thanks for watching!
I always look forward to seeing what you eat and drink, 👍
I do a lot of camping out of my suv you should grab one of those little folding saws they are cheap I think I paid like 15 bucks for mine but it saves a lot of effort and time while collecting fire wood i enjoy your videos buddy keep them coming
I just subscribed, your videos are simple, relaxing and novice, all goes to make them very interesting.
Glad you like them!
Heard good things about the Harbor Freight hatchet.
How have I never noticed you used a brake caliper for a grate on your single burner lol
I wondered about that too!
Its the only way my water pot will sit on it!
I noticed that too - great idea!
Glad I am not the only one with bad hatchet technique. Definitely looking at that grill, keep up the great videos. If I didn't love my teardrop so much I would steal my husbands truck and put a topper on it and go camping.
Machetes work great for splitting firewood. You can hit the backside of the tip and hammer it all the way through.
Well I guess I need a machete now, darn 😂
Also make fine wood shavings with a knife to start as kindling to start a fire works great. Love your videos though relaxing to watch and inspiring.
Thanks for watching!
Grab a folding saw from Amazon. I picked one up for 10 bucks last year, and it works great. Takes up little to no space. Good video. Thanks.
I've been looking at folding saws, ill check it out
It looks like this firepit can be a bit difficult to start the fire. One of the tricks another UA-camr suggested is to use a straight length (your call) of stainless tubing. This focuses the area of the flame and helps get it started more easy.
A fire Bellow, is what you are talking about .
I would reckon its the grind on the hatchet and not you. I love the grill and need one in my life. Nice video friend.
1 big guy and 1 tiny cup of oates... something aint right 🤣 bless up.. another relaxing watch.. thanks
Thanks for watching!
Amazon has a nice selection of hatchets , about 24 inches would be good for u
I have the large and the mini....love them
dude get a 2.5 axe and when you splite wood put one on top of the other it will take some of the shock out of it hard serfice under wood good luck love your videos
Search junk/second hand stores for an ol rusty ax head and restore/build your own Hatchet!
Always put the pillow case on, pillow tags in first hahaha
Only you can make a video with an intro of stuffing a pillow in its case and yet I still find it strangely interesting haha! On a serious note, great vid. I think you should do more little reviews of gear like this. UCO is actually a great company...I have their Candlelier lantern and its perfect for camping. No batteries, no messing around with fluids or mantles, gives nice cozy light and even a little bit of warmth inside a tent or truck. Best part is you can choose what candles to use. I like the beeswax the best as they provide a nice comfortable aroma but I also use their citronella ones as well to keep the bugs away.
Thanks, ill have to look at the other stuff UCO has to offer!
The only hatchet I can recommend is Molly Hatchet 😁 Love your channel
Love that beer you drinking have one for me boss
Starting a camp fire.... Go to Harbor Freight and get a propane torch and a small bottle. Fire in seconds. And no need for a hatchet. Too small to cut wood. Go with a 18v sawsall. About the same size and it rips.
Really enjoyed this video. There's a channel here on UA-cam called Living the Van Life where the guy uses a knife to split firewood. He builds a campfire in nearly all of his videos, so there are plenty of examples.
Yeah i definitely need to step up my fire building skills 😂
Just a normal guy doing normal truck camping. What can be better to watch on UA-cam!
I appreciate it!
Just go to Walmart mart and get a Hatchett in their sporting dept. They have all kinds of 🏕 equipment. Not expensive and just keep it sharpened it does everything the more expensive ones do
I am with you, it ain’t camping if you can’t have a campfire!
Exactly!
Excellent, excellent video. I will definitely buy that fire pit. I also bought the cot nightstand you have.
Awesome, the fire pit works great 👍
I love my Collins Axe. It's not as cheap as a fiskars, but it's a good splitter. Collins Axe have hatchets. I bought the camp axe size.
I'll check it out, thanks!
Buy a Council tools Woodcraft pack axe or if on a budget a fiskars ... Loved the bbq fork!!
Yup, Council Tools for the win. They know how to make axes. I have their smaller Hudson Bay axe and absolutely love it. Been wanting to try that Woodcraft pack one as well.
I'll check out Council tools, thanks!
@@jonnyt16 There is 2 more of their axes I want .one is the Hudson Bay, the other is a small Double Bit ..
Gerber makes a nice hand axe.
Get yourself a sledge hammer and wood splitting wedge, not expensive, small easy to use.
That thing is killer i like how its elevated
It works great!
Dewalt hatchet i got mine from bomgaars but home depot carries the same one its 19.99. I split all my wood with ease with it. Heavier hatchet works very well!
I'll check it out, im leaning towards a Fiskars brand hatchet
Minimalist you’re man. Love the idea of disc brake into the burner. Gonna borrow that!
Hey Crazy Quady great vid love these long vids it is relaxing and love that portable fire pit I might have a suggestion maybe get your self a 2.5 gallon or 5 gallon bucket to put those ashes in idk if it’s small enough to fit in the truck cuz you gotta keep buying garbage bags all the time idk anyway keep up the great work brother!!!!
Thanks for the tip!
CrazyQuady Your welcome anytime!!!
In just my opinion buddy if you want a good wood Wacker go to your local Walmart and get a hyper tuff...I don't know if I'm smelling that right they are red and black that is the best way I can describe them...my husband owns one and he said it's a good one he has had it for a long time and all he has to do to it is sharpen the blade every now and then...lol
Damn! I hope you never have to try to start a fire when it is raining, snowing or windy! LOL, it's not that hard but you need to start small then go increasingly big , you need better paper or shavings than napkins to start, if that is all you have put them all in at the bottom then small twigs then small branches then once that is going you can put in small then larger branches. I'm with you though. Oh, saw the edge of the hatchet you had, no judgement, but it is dull for cutting. It takes time but you'll get there!
I usually have some homemade firestarters, I just haven't refilled the supply in the truck!
Bout fell asleep watching you attempt to split that wood...Lol
The girl sounds like she is running on 6 out 8 my man. Check your plugs, wires, cap and rotor! Great video bro
It has a lumpy cam in it 😂
Cool little firepit.
Thanks!
I have the fiskars hatchet and it works great
One I wouldn’t get a hatchet I would get a small boys axe what I like to use should fit right under your bed fine. I only use a small hatchet when I make kindling for my wood stove. When I camp I bring my boys axe and my knife to baton the wood. I have the truper one from most big box stores and a husqvarna one from Amazon that one is really nice
I'll check them out, thanks!
Buy a couple of super absorbent chamois to wipe down condensation in the mornings.
Great idea
You just got a new sub here from Oregon. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the sub!
CrazyQuady you’re welcome. Also feel free to check out my channel if you care to.
@@TheReefRobber I just Subbed to your channel.. love watching crap fishing and having fun. That's what life's about. From Wisconsin ❤️
@@Regina0964 awesome! I hit you back. Enjoy!!
looks like some match light would help, lol.
That was crazy Quady!
Thank you for the video.
the challenge of getting a camp fire started , meanwhile someone is throwing a cigarette bud out their car window and catching a whole forest on fire
Looking for a good truck cap, any ideas? Wanna start camping out of my truck instead of tent camping.
Drizzle some lamp oil on the wood will get your fire going
Dude didn’t call to invite you fishing? You don’t need those kind of people in your life! Another great, simple video! Look at those sub numbers climbing!
I know right 😂 thanks for the support!
I prefer Baked Lay's myself, but they are more expensive.
But if I have a veggie sub 🤤 from Subway then I have to have plain Baked Lay's.
I don't know if I have ever seen bbq Baked Lay's.
The best way to get a campfire going is charcoal lighter fluid works every time, quick and easy.. just be careful with it.
You had me LMAO Trying to get that !!
Husqvarna makes a small axe that you should be able to find online for $40 or $50 and its a hardend head,
Have you done a video on your topper roof rack? Did you add the rack or did it come with it?
I got mine at Harbor fright for 13.00 it has a wooden handle.
Good video CQ
Maybe you need a harder surface to be able to split your wood?
Fiskars x15 or x23 would be a nice and cheap upgrade. I found a X15 for 36 at TSC
The Fiskars seem really nice for the price
Quady they also gave 2 options, chopping or cutting versions. Also the Gerber ones that look similar are fiskars, so whichever is cheaper
I am placing an order for that fire pit, it goes to Canada with me.
Wondering what kind of rack you have on your cap?
