ALRIGHT GUYS, I'VE FINALLY UPDATED MY WEBSITE! You all can find the written summary of Iliad book 5 via this link :) I hope these help xx www.moaninc.co.uk/homers-iliad/book-5-summary
Then again the Troy movie was inaccurate about a LOT. Its depiction of Agamemnon was criminal. Agamemnon was a gorgeous badass. The only hero to be compared to THREE gods and the only one who never needed divine aid or divine weapons in battle.
I've to read the Iliad and the Odyssey for college. After listening to your videos it makes the story more accessible and exciting that reading it is easier for some reason! Thank you! :)
IIRC, Ares didn't realize Athena was in the chariot with Diomedes because Athena was wearing Hades' helmet of invisibility. (Though you would think he would realize it from there being no driver!)
I`m imagining Sarboden "dying and coming back to life" is just a dramatic way to describe him momentarily blacking out from the pain. It's too bad they don't have anesthetics in Ancient Greece.
If You like Diomedes in this segment, then You would love Heracles. He defeated gods in many battles (he also "ragdoled" Zeus in a wrestling match in one of the games). So You might do a series on him too (those twelve labours were just a part of his accomplishments).
Oh man, that sounds AWESOME!!! I know a pretty knowledgeable historical writer whose work I like, Philip Matyszak, has a book on Heracles/Hercules, but is there an edition, author, or book about him and his Labors you were just referring to that you could recommend me please?
@@ThePaganSun actually they did wrestle (Zeus fought with him in his human form). However in the end it was a draw. Zeus did congratulate him however (because of his legendary strength).
I really enjoy your excellent summaries. Athena clearly aides Diomedes a lot. How much of his success can be credited to his own actions and how much is due to Athena’s help?
Thank you for watching 🫶🏼 To answer your question though … that’s a BIG one and I absolutely can not tell you off the top of my head 😅 But an interesting thought to get into and definitely adding to my list of things to tally up when I next read the Iliad!
I know “Iliad” lovers don’t like the film “Troy”, but it’s one of my favorite films, even if it is an adaptation of the actual war, if not the poem. Even though I understand why they left out Diomedes, because I felt the same way she does about Diomedes the first time I read it: “He’s a bad a**!!!”, LMAO!!! (Especially when he wrecks Ares also!!!). And I do understand why many adaptations leave out the Greek gods because the story basically becomes Marvel’s “Avengers” when they are added!
The problem is the movie Troy wasn't even that accurate to the Bronze Age war or the poem. But yes, I agree! Leaving out the Gods changes the story as much as leaving Yahweh out of the Bible.
I do not understand why so many people favour Diomedes as a character, in fact his is hardly a real fictional character at all, he is a warrior and kills. Just one facet.

What an absolute mad lad Diomedes was. My favourite character from The Iliad for sure.
He is SO UNDERRATED it makes me genuinely sad more people don’t pop him on their list of best Greek heroes 👿
@@MoAnInc After reading the book and now listening to this series it baffles me the movie "Troy" didn't have Diomedes in it.
DON’T GET ME STARTED ABOUT THIS 😂🤦🏻♀️

Hercules didn't "ragdoll" Zeus. Zeus was his father lol.

I wish i were a filmmaker. I'd make an adaptation to the Iliad that would actually do the story justice.
