ಅದ್ಭುತವಾಗಿ ಹಾಡಿದ್ದೀರ। ರೀತಿಗೌಳ ರಾಗ ನದಿಯಂತೆ ಉಕ್ಕಿ ಉಲ್ಲಸಿತವಾಗಿ ಹರಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವಹಾಗಿದೆ।।
What a wonderful voice Sri Ranganatha Sharma has! Perfect shrutishuddha, singing in an unhurried manner with bhakti and bhaava, using lavish gamakas, and clarity of the saahithyam, and excellent pronunciation of words, result in unforgettable concerts. I did not attend this concert, but attended his three other concerts during my extended stay in Chennai. I attended 258 concerts in all; several were entertaining concerts, quite a few were enjoyable, and a few were excellent also; but only four were enlightening concerts. Sri Ranganatha Sharma's concert at the Music Academy (Dec 28, 2014, 6.45 pm) was one of the four concerts during which my mind became so engrossed in his music and so calm and ripple free (that is, free of all thoughts except one thought - what the vocalist was singing) that it perceived and experienced the "Ananda", which is the true nature of our Jeeva, and present in the heart of every one. When he sang Sri Deekshitar's Sahana raga Navaavarana kriti, Shree Kamalambikaayam bhakthim karomi, I wept. They say that the purpose of Carnatic music is to give our mind an opportunity to experience this ananda, and realize that our Jeeva is Brahman, and so we are the Brahman, and thereby feel enlightened. This happens only at very few concerts these days, though, because these days, unfortunately, many of the vocalists have resorted to "applause-oriented" music - that is, singing faster and faster, which they know will result in loud applause, even if they sing without bhakti and bhaava. Singing fast does not calm the mind, it only excites the mind; that is, it makes our normally "chanchala mind" even more chanchala. We can experience ananda only when our chanchala mind becomes "Nischala", as Shree Thyagaraja Swami said in his Dhanyasi raga kriti: Nee chittamu - "Nee chittamu nischalamu, naa chittamu chanchalmu". When our chanchala mind becomes nischala, we experience ananda. It gives me great comfort to know that there are at least a few vocalists who sing like him and enlighten the rasikas.

Very moving. Sri Sastry along with his accompanying vidwans, touches your very core through this performance of Janani Ninnuvina. The words "Janani Ninnuvina" literally shakes your inner being bringing out tears. Ambaa Janani, Ninnuvina, what am I?
Sri subbaraya shastri is the composer of this krithi. Dr Ranganatha sharma is the one performing. I agree, great performance.

What a fantastic talent, man! These are the people who need more and more opportunities. What a pure and blissful traditional music, without any slip in sruthi and bhava! This is not an easy song, particularly where one needs to take full control of the mantra sthayi. Dr. Sharma handles it brilliantly. Please post more of this vidhwan. Thanks for sharing. It was a privilege listening to this great talent.
Reetigowla is a mesmerising raga which can touch your inner soul and give a sense of wholeness...Violin varadha bhai is a stalwart accompanying many great performers...Well the music was so divine and wholesome...It just fills you in...And the recording is superb...Thanks for a wonderful divine experience...

Sudha sangeetham.....so soulful and divine! Despite a not-too-good 'sareeram' status on the day of recording, Sharma has exhibited his deep sense of music notes and expertise. What a awesome kriti in Reethigowla...Pranam...
Super voice, excellent sruthi suddhdham. But once in a while, I felt the tug of karaharapriya here and anandabhairavi there, at several places in the alapana (and only in the alapana). The rendition was comforting. The cadence was just right. A gentle river. A supremely resonant sareeram that is indistinctive from the sruthi. Totally enjoyable. pranAms.
+Enriching Exchanges - Hi enriching exchanges. I listened to this video again today, wondering whether there is any substance to what you have written here. I must say that Sri Ranganatha Sharma has not deviated from the raaga sanchaara of Reetigowla raaga. It is possible that because Reetigowla is derived from Kharaharapriya raaga (Anandabhairavi, also, is a janya of Kharaharapriya), you heard shades of those two raagas ; but I did not. I wish to say that I have been listening to Carnatic music (which is my passion) for over 69 years now, and I have learnt Carnatic vocal for 34 years from two different very great gurus. And I have heard all the top vocalists of the last 70 years, and I consider Sri Ranganatha Sharma as one of the very best I have heard. To my ears, this Reetigowla aalapanaa sounded flawless.

First, I want to thank you. Your comment made me listen to it again! I love his voice. I love his sruthi suddham. I love the rendition. I absolutely in awe of the perfect bhAva in the rendition. So, thank you for giving me another opportunity to listen to this terrific rendition. I respect your age. I respect your experience. I respect your gurus. From 1.08 to 1.13 I felt a strong pull of Anandabhairavi. I did not say it was Anandabhairavi. I did not say it had anniya swarAs. All I said was I felt a tug of Anandabhairavi (and karaharapriyA elsewhere). True, they are related to each other, but, in my own subjective experience, there was a flash of a different rAga anubhavA. One that you are not supposed to hear. Now, if you feel that your age, experience listening to music, and your gurus have equipped you with the ability to tell that my subjective experience was somehow incorrect, and that my rAga anubhavA comes from ignorance of the rAgas, I am happy to respect your "knowledge" as well. I am no less for it.
