I have always wanted to be a writer, but growing up I used to be told I needed to focus on a "real career", so I am just now beginning my journey. Watching your videos helps me so much! 💖

I've also recently gotten into writing and its so fun! Doing my first novel and I'm 45k words in. Hoping to finish draft one this month! :D
I too operate as a plotter and I find it best to give myself limits. My characters get ONE character sheet with x amount of information. I plan my plot to x degree and then start writing. I'm not worried about what color the side table is until the chapter is getting WRITTEN!! I'm also not allowed to do things I'm excited about till later. No writing social media account till I finish draft 1. No planning my book launch party till I finish with beta readers...and so on. It keeps the process exciting (or, at least, I hope it will)

YA Fantasy saving kids lives is so real. I have a percy jackson tattoo bc of how influential that series was for me and still continues to be.
I’d recommend getting into some writing workshops. I majored in English language and literature and I got a minor in creative writing. The most helpful thing for me when working on writing projects is workshopping with a variety of peers. And not just other writers who write within the same genre as you. I wish you the best of luck! Writing is one of the most challenging and laborious things one can do. I’m excited for the work you put out into the world.
Do you know if most writers use a book template or software as a guide? If yes, can you pls recommend any?
The way i’ve been contemplating on dipping back into writing..this might’ve just been my sign to do so. But i’m so excited for this journey of you writing this story :) it seems like you’re entering this really great era and it’s beautiful to see.
I've written several books, but have never actually had more than one completely done, and that's what I'm working on now. I'm hoping I finish this one and don't leave it abandoned like my other ones.
I'm both a pantser and plotter, some books I plot, and some I just go with it, and return back to change things if it makes a plot hole.
omg honestly, my whole life i’ve been interested in writing, writing shitty stories, but i finally just sat down and started writing properly. i really love writing, and i hope one day i can be a published author
I think the world has taught us to limit out expectations when we do things to shelter us from a lot of rejection and scrutiny. but you truely only live this life once, so you might as well do everything you want in it! Write your novel and do it without doubt because you can't be judged for having an idea and writing about it with the passion you have. Continue and have fun with it! Do not stress yourself and believe in yourself!

I think it'll be so fun if you created a little community of writers who are working on their books, both to get advice and just for support. Especially for young black women. Even if it's just a group chat or something. I'm not working on anything, but I've wanted to for a while.
I always loved writing. I've mainly written short stories. I have a fantasy book I started years ago, but I put it on the back burner because of working on my PhD in a completely different field.
this is the first time i've come across your channel, and i just want to express to you how much i love your personality and your content! everything you have mentioned being interested in has been something i am (or have been) interested in, and it's wonderful and extremely refreshing to find someone who is similar in interests (and personality) when i now find it really easy to be burnt out by trying to find content i like. i also love to read and write fantasy, sci-fi, and dystopian things (all including magic) and am working on a first draft of a novel! so i'm very excited to see more of your content!!! :)

I read (most of it cause I dropped it) shatter me and imo it was mediocre. Some others may enjoy it, but I didn’t like the lack of world building, so things were just sprung up to me with no explanation and the romance was STALE.

@Marvell_Studios hey girl if you mean the romance between and thr fl and Adam Kent then totally agree with you, but as someone who has read all the books in the series, the other books are so worth it. I genuinely think you just need to give it time. However, you're totally right about the world building, I felt like I didn't really understand the setting/world

I finished the brainstorming and basic plots of the first volume of my series like last year, but still haven't begun to actually write it. I did put it in my planner to start again in a few weeks. I'm defintiely more successful with a plotter but I prefer to just jump in. Can't wait to hear updates about yours!

i feel like we have very similar vibes. i am so into plot and magic develpement that i cant wait to dig deeper thru writing... my mind is always racing with tthoughts of how the world is enthralled in magic and i have the idea of characters but i feel like i am not so good at developing a character. but i never sat down and started writing them ive only ever gone as far as thinking vaguely about them. but i love magic and i love reading about it and how it can be different in so many different books.

Writing rn lol. Not a novelist, so I don't go through the pains of building characters and setting-creation, but as a sports writer, I do find myself caught in "research" (Watching a ton of basketball and going through stats). Tricky balance between planning and executing.
Ahh those days of my YA years. I remember TOG series when it first came out! (Still have the series btw) I was 19 or 20 at the time. Now I'm 29 lawd 🤣 But yeah, I'm still on my writing journey.(trying to get out of reading slump though 😅) But with time I've practiced it, and about to publish my first book. I started my locs with braids and I was loced within 6 months so I think it really depends. I have really soft hair so it kept untangling in the twist. I live near the beach so I did a lot of salt rinses which helped
