For years, I had thought it was impossible for me to unlock Devil Kazuya on Tekken 1. It just seemed like too much of a challenge. But thanks to this very helpful video, today I FINALLY managed to complete this Galaga mini-game (only having to retry the last stage once). I actually had to put small pieces of tape on my TV to remember just where to line my ship up to get an "Under 18.5 seconds." score on that first level, but as a Tekken fanatic, I'd say it was well worth the time and effort.
Ugh, I never unlocked Devil Kazuya! I mean I knew you had to beat Galaga, but I found that way too difficult, since I could barely remember some of those patterns. Also it didn't help the motivation that it took about a minute to reboot the PS1 if you failed. *Looks back at cartridge-based games*

I unlocked devil when i was 10 or 11 and i was SO excited to get him and then so disappointed to find out it was not stronger but the same Kazuya with an ugly look…i ended up not playing T1 anymore after that. Was so much rewarding unlocking Heihachi and power bombing the AI.

@MrCopyrightViolator but wasn't the ps port released later that same year tekken 2 was released in arcades? devil kazuya costume was only available ps1 tekken, so i'd assume that maybe they put the secret costume in the ps tekken cos they already made devil for tekken 2. sort of an easter egg
Weird, i finally unlocked devil kazuya a few days ago (though i used an emulator). Somewhat strange though, i beat the first stage on 21 seconds, and yet i still got double ships. But i was playing tha PAL version, so that might be something different.
@ElsLunchBox The guide I have says you can't continue more than once. If you do, you won't unlock Devil Kazuya. And since it's much easier to get the double ships ASAP, you might as well continue at the first stage.
I wish I'd known about the continue code. I was always so frustrated about never having unlocked him. It was hard on actual hardware, especially since I got the first model with the faulty disc reader.
Toomnyusernae I've read you can block that black car if you keep the perfect racing line, even if you go super slow. Though I did beat it the "normal" way...
You guys ever play Rockman Battle and Chase? There are black versions of npc's that you have to race against that are stupid fast and even sport a reversed RR logo (Black Roader). Looks like Capcom has a sense of humour ;p
@MrCopyrightViolator Yeah your right. you cant always trust some 'guides' when they arent very specific lol defeats the meaning of the word. but yeah your right, i must have unlocked devil kazuya about a week before your reply. i used the 1 allowed continue on the first stage (i wasnt too happy about it), memorized the locations and some of your moves from the video and bingo, it worked like a charm. I haven't read anything like that. The game doesn't even keep track of game time like Soul Blade. And I'm sure you can unlock everything well under 30 hours anyway!
I've got Tekkens 1, 2, 3, Tag Tournament, and 5. And the only one I can't unlock every character in is 1. It's quite difficult finishing the game without using any continues. And that Galaga game is next to impossible!

I hate this mini game so damn much, whoever thought it was a good idea of making the devil costume for kazuya unlockable by perfecting all of these stages can go jump off a bridge let me describe you all these stages of what I think about them. stage 1: we all know this one is easy. stage 2: another easy one no problem. stage 3: I hate this one the most and since the bullets go slow and you can complete it by luck stage 4: meh mediocre although you complete it by luck and you have to mash the button quicker then holding the triangle button. stage 5: this one can be memorized easily, although this stage I lost only once today, due to me being angry at the mini game. stage 6: gotta hand it to you always start with the ships that takes two hits to be destroyed because if not this stage will be difficult. Stage 7: this one is worser then stage 3 since this stage can be random at times and sometimes I can't remember the patterns of where the ships are going and this one is the worst one in my opinion. stage 8: I never made it to stage 8 because i'm stuck with stage 7 but I presume this one is easy medium either of the two difficulties but I'll have to try it out once I beat stage 7. Yeah that's what I think about these stages. I really wish you can complete arcade mode with heihachi and unlock the devil costume for kazuya instead of just completing the galaga mini game because it's just really repulsive.
They probably threw the costume in so people that actually enjoyed playing the Galaga minigame and spent their time perfecting it got some sort of reward as opposed to nothing. It's pretty harmless.

Another guy says you can continue as much as you want, except for the last stage, because "it'll bring you back to the 1st stage" if you do ? So when you say only 1 coninue, you mean if a player uses more than the 1 then he wont get Devil Kazuya? cause i must have continued a dozen times, does that mean you can use that one continue on the last stage ?
Yes really. I played the beta of it on a rom on an emulator. I guess they decided tos crap it an move to the more powerful console. I think they made a wise decision here.
The most frustrating thing about this is that you have to reset the game every time you fail... Those damn loading screens get to annoy the fuck out of you if repeated over and over again.

All you need to do is press select before the music ends to retry instead of resetting the PlayStation

There is some minor hitbox and damage increases to the Devil Kazuma variant. It's minor though.

Thanks! Getting the double ship was the hardest part, and the rest wasn't easy either. Took quite a while, but I managed eventually.
