    Hey guys! No video has been so singularly and instantly game-changing in my understanding of cameras and how that applies to my streaming/videos. After watching this, I went back to my set up and changed settings following your advice, which immediately improved my video quality and consistency (no more weird tonal shifts cuz the camera was auto-adjusting to whatever colour of light was shining from my monitor onto my face!). I cannot thank you enough! ^_^

    Watching this video is somewhat surreal. One of the first photography vids I ever watched was the original exposure triangle vid by T&C. Now, about three years and many, many T&C videos later, I am watching a video about something I already (mostly) understand. Thanks T&C, glad I found ya'll when I was just getting started.

    Hi Tony,
    I am Using a Sony A7 R5, FW release : 2.01 With a Sony mirror less Lens 55mm F1.8 FW release 2.0.
    Please let me know if I am doing something wrong or my expectations with Sony are misplaced.
    First my Camera Settings: - Focus mode = Continuous Focus, Focus Area = Wide, Focus , Human+Face Detection = Enabled, Exposure=Multi, Face Priority in multi = ON, Spot metering point= Focus point Linked. Shutter= 1/125, Aperture= 1.8, ISO=Auto 100 to Max.
    Here is the scenario. Subject is placed to one side (not in centre) The Center is brighter than Face of the subject. Imagine a person near a window.
    My expectation : The face will be properly exposed since exposure is Face priority and spot metering point is focus point linked and Focus point is linked to face detection.
    Actual Result : Focus is perfect but the exposure is metered from centre.
    Question : Are my settings wrong or is my camera faulty or does Sony not work as I expect.
    Many thanks

      Wouldn't you say I.S.O. considering it's an acronym for International Organization for Standardization? I know it doesn't really mean anything in the digital world; however, in the film days no matter where you are a 400 role of film is the same in America as it is in Australia.....although they have different systems of measurement. Just saying....😉

    Great video Tony and Chelsea! The only thing I would've added is explaining how grainy pictures get with a higher ISO and so you should always strive for the lowest native setting if possible (ISO 100 on Canon and Sony, ISO 64 on Nikon, etc.) A beginner may leave this video thinking they can increase ISO without any drawbacks.

    • @TonyAndChelsea
      @TonyAndChelsea  4 роки тому +2

      I debated going into those details (we even recorded it, but I cut it out in editing). The issue is that high ISO really doesn't cause noise; low-light causes noise. High ISO is just brightening the picture so it's properly exposed in low-light conditions. People misunderstand this and try to use low ISOs even in low light, causing underexposed pictures with the same amount of noise. We cover this in other videos; it's a separate and more advanced topic.
