You know, the thing I really appreciate in a drummer is when they're so competent that they can invent stuff live. By that, I don't mean just improvising; I mean finding something new and being able to build upon it. Creativity. You can see drummers like Coleman and Weckl (and many others) discover some percussive idea and roll with it, rather than quickly falling back on something cool they've been doing forever. Chris Coleman sounds like Chris Coleman, but watch a bunch of his solo videos, and you can see him creating something new every time he plays (and killing it). THAT's the sign of a pro and an artist.
i never met him, but by watching this video i think he is a nice guy, super nice menthor, with a funny manner and clear explanation . more success chris coleman. sorry for my bad grammar.
A lot of guys have speed...some of them are precise. But speed + relentless power and loudness and razor sharp precision!?! Don't forget time manipulation without a sweat...And this is 7 years ago :))) Hilarious!!! Chris Coleman superhero
Sure, there are many who couldn't cross those lines. I agree with you 100%. My first statement is that of fantasy. I'll just have to work all of my rudiments up to speed and use them and linear patterns to be the first in metal!
Thomasgipsy I disagree greatly with that statement. Vinnie Colaiuta recorded the drums for Megadeth's "The System Has Failed". Ronald Bruner Jr, Eric Moore II, AND Thomas Pridgen have played for Suicidal Tendencies. Matt Garstka of Animals As Leaders is now a major player inspired by Gospel, namely the likes of Ronald Bruner Jr & Dave Weckl. Listen to Sean Reinert (Death, Cynic) and his work outside (AND inside) of metal. Look up Jerad Lippi of Ever Forthright, also known for incredible jazz work. There are plenty of genre-benders and "cross-breeds" out there; you just have to look and find them.
Who? speed? Are we catching a train? That's heart felt music he was playing. Anyways, enjoy the show it is a clinic and I was there to experience him live.
It is still rumored to this day that the crash from 14:16 slightly shifted two tectonic plates and caused an earthquake that scored a level 9 on the Richter scale.
Coleman is destined to go down as one of the greats in the history of drumming. All drummers have something to learn from him. Amazing player!
+Aditya Tyagi Have you seen him playing the bass guitar ? He's also a very good player!
I have not seen him play bass but I do know that he does so. If is anything like his drumming, I am already impressed! LOL!
Tony Royster and Chris Coleman stay killing it!!

This cat's bag of awesomeness is endless...
Some of the best stuff I have seen from Chris Coleman. Chris is a beast and is so fundamentally sound. AMAZING.
I LIKE HIM. EVERY SINGLE VIDEO,,, EVERY SINGLE MOVES..... TOTALLY BEST.

.....w...o.....w............ In a trance.
Aarghhh... and I love how he handles those Turk cymbals. Their percussive sounds suit his playing style

Does all still smiling! Great!
Had to use the slow motion to capture anything i missed
Also: I think that Chris is trying to scare everyone away from ever wanting to play drums again after watching him.
he's really, really good :)
+Cherie Domingo ;-)
Jesus! Chris and Bruner at the top of the Mountain..
I agree. These two drummers are on a whole other level then everyone else
I would love to see this guy shred some metal. His hands are unbelievable.
Wouldnt work,he is a gospel drummer
That's a close minded statement if I've ever heard one. He could do it.
Chad Blackwell Well you got my point, meaning we have never seen a metal drummer who could play jazz or funk and vice versa,no disrespect
