This is great Colin, though I would say, once you listen intently, you can pick out the very subtle cadence issues where certain words may be stretched a tad, but you must listen for them, but again, it's subtle. I believe the AI for US/Canadian voices is using broadcast dialect/accent, ie, no accent for the clearest diction.

    Blimey, that's good!
As someone who commissions voicing regularly I would feel pretty disloyal using this route - but it has some specific advantages.
So my first thought was that it could never work. We always have to coach voice artists on specific product names and scientific terms, but it looks like this is not an issue. Ditto word emphasis and pace.
During COVID, we were doing a typical medical project with an extended and globally scattered 'team' (franky, executives who gave the impression that they would experience problems sitting the right way around on a toilet...). They could not decide if they wanted the voicing done by a man or a woman, US, Canadian or Irish accent. (I really wish I was making this up!). Trying to liaise with voice artists that we were not used to working with, especially during studio lockdowns was a nightmare.
Being able to drop in a script and give the execs three or four choices is VERY compelling for commercial jobs. I shall be interested to see whether the developers have judged the costing to a level that works in the real world.
    John M.

Colin, I have watched a lot of UA-cam reviews about AI voice apps. This one is superb! Thanks for going into so much detail on Murf for AI voice-over app. You are a good mentor, always very clearly explained, for these kinds of reviews!

It's a pity that the good voices are only available under the pro package, which, if not used regularly, is a bit expensive. The once off option is also nice, but again limited to the basic package voices. Thanks for sharing!

The first examples lacked emotion, tempo and tonality, so were not persuasive at all, when delivering lines which convey emotion. Later on, some other examples where quite good actually.
I believe this will evolve much faster than we expect as have the text to image Ai Engines (Midjourney, Dal-e etc).
For fast yt video turnover I find them already adequate and if used to narrate facts, data etc they will be quite efficient too. Its the emotion and tonality nuances that need some polishing, but I have high hopes, this will eventually be ground breaking...

I was going to post exactly the same comment as you have here. Thanks for saying it so well. Indeed, the first two examples were absolutely soulless. Not the least bit inspiring technically OK, but they had the rhythm. The predictable rhythm of a 1980s drum machine. The others were a bit better.
In many ways this technology to my way of thinking is a lot like MP3 technology when it first came out in the 1990s. At first we were amazed but then our ears and brains began to learn of the distortions that are peculiar to audio coding technology. And now, when I hear an MP3, I hear those imperfections. I think this artificial intelligence a similar. I’ve listened to a lot of it, and we do have a ways to go to make it sound more believable and like the voices actually have a soul.

Gidday video revealed! - it took me MONTHS - but I'm learning to pick them through careful listening to voice inflection alone ( which can be adjusted in the presenter is being careful ). Thanks for pointing this out. There's a couple here that I recognise - and there's a couple more that I had NO idea about! Specifically that religious YT channel. Thank you!

I find it quite subtle, and it's I think for US/Canadian English to be using broadcast English dialect, whereby there isn't really an accent, and it's on purpose. All human broadcasters, VO artists etc use it for the clearest diction for people with all hearing levels as some accents will slur individual words, or sentences together, making it harder to understand.
For me, it boils down to individual words where the pace of some words may be stretched a tad and the only way to notice is to listen carefully but again, it's subtle.

I currently subscribe to Speechelo Pro (AI voice generator) for somewhat less annually than MURF. However, MURF, with its plethora of voices and many more user controls to manipulate the voice, is a far better value for the increased cost. After watching your overview, Colin, I sampled MURF and read some online reviews. I now own an annual subscription to Murf AI. I see there are a few folks here being a bit skeptical of some (imho) minor "artificial sounding" issues. While true, I think the overall big picture is that when VO is needed and you don't have one in-house, or don't want to arrange a session, much less pay the price for a pro talent (sorry), a high quality sounding AI voice, such as those by Murf, is a superior option at pennies for the dollar.

I tried the "free "version but it wouldn't allow me to download what I worked on!!! What a waste of time!
The basic plan is $228 (S19.00/mo) and I don't do that many audios to warrant it. I would have paid the $19 for this one time after spending an hour putting together the first audio. But it wouldn't allow me to buy one month.
I have to say I am very annoyed. Please make it clear to your subscribers that this is not a free program and that they have to pay if they expect to download anything on their first try. Too bad, I liked the program.

    Great video, as always.
BUT... all of the voices sound sleepy and BORED, as if they were reading a script in a 1980s era documentary which IS NOT what you want for most videos, especially when trying to sell a product. I agree they sound realistic, but they sound realistically BORED.
I see there is an option for "energetic", but unfortunately the reviewer never used it in this video.

Interesting. It was very clear that it wasn't a human motivated speaker, even if it was real human voices. It was unpleasant. Like an AI talking propaganda. Wouldn't trust a product that was accompanied with those voices. Scifi and horror movies voices.
