you're right about "stan" and its meaning behind it, but it actually originated from Eminem's Song called "Stan", the guy Stanley (Stan) was an extreme obsessive fan of Eminem. It's a dark and a depressing song about the dangers of being an extreme fanatic.

Can't help but notice your Atomic Habits book right there. Sobrang sikat yan na self-help book. It's always Out-of-stock sa mga libraries na pinupuntahan ko cause people always borrow it!! Being a fan of BTS, it's not always the kilig it's the comfort they gave to ARMYs, it's like having a friend or older brothers to me. Sa totoo lang i'm just happy watching them, they make me happy.

yung iba kasi tlaga diehard fan tlaga, same thing lang naman din sa mga rockbands, boybands now kpop. Natawa nga ako dun sa vlog ni jinho guest nya si sandra jung. Sabi ni sandra naawa rin sya minsan sa mga kpop fans kasi nga ubosan ng pera bili ng concert tickets, merch. Ok lang maging fan wag lang sobra.
Bakit ganun naka personalize naman ako di lumabas agad sakin na may new content ka. Nakita ko lang sa TikTok.

I think the fancam originated with SNSD Yuri. There was this video of her that went viral. And I think that is how it all started. Then got evolved.
Hence, music shows have the fancams. Cguro coz they are for those with biases. And it doesn’t necessarily mean a fan took the video.
But I believe it is how it started.

actually. it came from SNSD's k-fanbase. Ewch and one of them had solo fancams but Yuri's fancam was the only one that went viral among them.
1.) Stan - It originated from eminem's song "Stan" which is about an obssesive fan.
2.) Fancam - the pioneers of fancam yes they are fans but not just simple fans. A lot of them uses dslrs and mirrorless cameras with zoom lenses they usually have YT channels and gets a lot of views from their uploads. Fancams helped a lot of lesser known groups. Biggest example is EXID with the Hani fancam and nancy's fancams for Momoland. Fancams really put them to fame way back.

Yup. Look up "Johnny's Idols". Mas nauna talaga ang Jpop with all their J-idols, in an era na wala pang social media. Korea simply packaged them nicely with their own original homegrown K-style.

If people stan or fan, that's their thing. I am more of a fan of a process -- like how Korean writers write, or how music is written, etc.
It's weird to say, but based on my experience - You'll just know you're a stan when you can easily choose to call yourself one. :) That's how I would call myself a stan vs when I was just a casual listener of groups. But I guess to really give a bit of context on that personal gauge of sorts, if you naturally feel like associating yourself with a group, even if you don't know a whole lot about them (which is very subjective re: the definition of 'a lot', since this can vary depending on who's asking :)) so mahirap siyang basis), you'll likely be comfortable (or feel natural) enough to call yourself a stan.
I guess I liken this to being a fan of a football/sports team. You don't need to have seen all their games, or know all their strategies, but you get drawn to a team for certain reasons (which can vary from person to person). You just know you want to root for that specific team, and it'll come naturally to you to call yourself a supporter of that team, that you're excited enough to see them win. That's how stanning feels to me. :) I hope this shed a bit of light!

the fancams getting recorded by professionals are a new uprising from the pandemic, when actual fans couldn't take the videos themselves, so music shows started making them themselves (for views ig??). the of fancams weren't that HD, haha.
I myself am a long-time fan of kpop, where I just love the music that comes from this industry (seriously, can't get this stuff anywhere else). Never got a solid answer to that "when do you call yourself a stan/part of the fandom vs just a fan". I believe it relies on how invested you are, and whether you want to join the fandom and be a stan.
Also, I always questioned photocards. Like, cool, they're understandable, but why are we avidly collecting idols' printed selfies, yknow? It truly is amusing.

The first fan cam was taken by a fan, but it blew up in popularity, so the fan cams nowadays are professionally produced by the broadcasting production to serve the fans.

1. stan originated from eminem's song "stan" mv story of a guy who is a fan of eminem but then became obsessed with him hence kpop hard die fans are called stans.
2. fancams really started with fans (or fansites) taking videos solely of their biases and it really gains views so i think music programs (music bank, inkigayo etc.) also adopted this hence the good video quality (they also have fancams in 4k, even in 8k too nowadays)
3. photocards are collectibles and are random in each albums so you get to trade/sell to others to collect the photocards of a chosen bias. there are diff types of cards from the normal ones to limited editions (which only has limited quantities and would cost a lot in photocard buy and sell world). with regards with the packaging, it is to protect the mint condition of the cards. if i'm right, i think girl's generation is the first group to have photocards and now it's the must have k-pop merchandise.

Beb very young fans really become 'stan',(obsessive fan)you will read their comments when they don't like other groups,they fight each other...the famous shippers of BTS,o my GOD,they sometimes go overboard,fancam,photocam,grabe,but adult fans just go light and enjoying BTS..I only am focus on BTS cuz they are the most 'stan' groups,and you know what ? Am so confused too, isn't it Korea is against LGBT? Why do I see a lot of bromance,does the company actually permits it for profit?
When I first started listening to kpop, I never cared about photo cards. For me, it’s just a photo and madami naman si lang photos online so I don’t really need it. Pero when I started purchasing and collecting albums, slowly naging pc collector na din ako. There’s just a feeling of that natural high pag na pull mo ung pc na gusto mo. Like you mentioned, it’s just like collecting Pokémon, baseball or NBA cards. Siguro kase ung excitement to pull your bias’ pc ung nakakatuwa dun and can be traded with other fans din lol. So they’re not really exclusive but if walang ka trade, yung iba would buy multiple copies of the same album just to try their luck lol. But I think it’s crazy that rare photo cards would cost a lot of money. Overpricing ung hindi nakakatuwa.

When you watch their music videos, nothing amazes me, it’s al bunch of cutie patotie dance moves with so much handmoves, like all these dances per songs 10 percent real dance moves tje rest are pa cute. Their voices ate obviously very filtered like Pinoys filter their photos on their FB DP. In converts they are obviously lip syncing, dinadaan lang sa pa cute moves. But here go Pinoy halos mabaliw sa kanila 🤣. Di rin naman mga gwapo, 90% salamat doc. Iisang hulma ng mga baba at mukha. Pero ulit anh mga Pinoy laglag panty gwapong gwapo daw kuno. I think photocards are not really available in the internet just like the photobooks in albums. Tho some people scan it and post it online. And there are photocards that are really limited edition.
