I got this mic several months ago after doing a thorough research into mics at this price range. Ended up getting this over everything else because it has a phenomenal sound for the price. I don't know why this review is trying so hard to bring it down but as you can see for yourself from the sound test, how much of a difference did you hear between this and the fan favourite SM7B? The SM7B is the go to mic currently and it comes for almost twice the price of the Q9U. So even if there is a sound difference. the Q9U's price absolutely justifies that.
So I say: Don't listen to this review and go for it if you want a professional sounding microphone with both XLR and USB connectivity, and a mute switch on top of that!

for $150 I think it sounded great to be honest. Granted I'm not on my usual setup and using significantly worse headphones so maybe I'm not hearing all the differences perfectly clear but personally I actually thought the Q9U would be better for MY voice than the other options you compared it to except for the SM7B

Its interesting because the Q9U had a better sound than the dynacaster. I just purchased the Q9U and it works great when I'm super close to it but i was not able to get your same quality sound that I'm hearing from you at about 4-5 inches away from the microphone. this is having all the boosters turned on.

Honestly, I do prefer the sound of the q9u over most of the mics he compared it to aside from the Shure as they're relatively close in the sound it captures. I like mics that gets a lot of bass and body. The q2u, dynacaster, and the re20 all make my ears ring with the highs. I'll admit it has terrible handling noises, but I also don't move my mic around much so it's really a non-issue for me. And hearing how much closer it sounded to the Shure one compared to the others, this just sold it for me.

I have it, along with various other microphones, and I'm happy with it. The sound is also very dependent on the environment and the speaking distance, which is recommended from 4 inches to 12 inches. Then, in my opinion, as much as we try to be objective, there is also a threshold of personal tastes and also a question of pairing, how our voice "marries" with that microphone (it is true that in theory it should always be perfect with all voices...), for example some microphones I may prefer with female and high-pitched voices and others with male voices, etc.

With an adaptor OTG in between the USBC and then to an iphone 13 pro was working totally fine and then stopped. Thought was faulty but bought another new microphone and no luck either! In this video the Samson Q9 seemed to be the only mic without that es problem. Maybe it's just me and "bright is right" but a bit "muddy" may be my best buddy. It is for this reason I liked the sound of the Q9 the best.

Three separate headphones, (Sony mdrs, x2 ath's, ) PreSonus monitors rewatch. Aside from the very poor shock-absorption, I think the q9u is the most pleasing for long-term listening. Everything else sounded too flat and or mid boosted. This is actually the first video that makes me want to try the q9u. I don't think anybody should sing into it, but I could see how a person who does not have a boss jock voice like yours may benefit from it. I actually found the bottoms and mids to be very clear. Maybe my eardrums are damaged after 25 years of blasting loud audio into them.. but I will tell you this. The re27 is my favorite dynamic. The dark can, not my fav. But the USB on this mic seems to have the perfect amount of saturation. Or maybe is the YT compression, who knows

Sounded pretty god to me, but to be honest not all mics gonna be perfect out of the box for every single user, must studios will have a range of different mics for that alone, it will depend on how much processing you want to do, it will also depend on the person recording/podcasting sibilance and how that person manages plosives either on wet or dry mouth, for people with higher pitched voices this Q9U/sm7b will be fine, for those on the lower note range voices then the Q9X/EV-R20/320 will be more recommended, those of us on the mid-ranges could use either of these no problems.

If I could be truly honest. I have the q9u, fduce and I have a RE27nD. I love my Re27. It sounds great., but for the average podcaster or UA-camr no one is going to spend that much on a mic. The q9u is a good mic. Especially if you don’t have a mic at the moment and you need a great mic for your UA-cam or podcast, it will do the job. Just need to post edit or edit to your sound. The funny thing is I use my Fduce more then my other expensive mics which is less money 😂😂. And the only reason why I use the fduce microphone is because I’m not concerned about it breaking on me and replacing it. You see you have to take care of your most expensive microphones and put them up to not get damage if necessary. The fduce sounds pretty good and has great build quality and I can take it on the go when I go to to work with my podcast/UA-cam team.I was skeptical on buying the fduce😂😂… but I use it the most because it is not as gain hungry either. Easy plug and play. Understand the more you spend on the microphone the more you spend on everything else possibly to make the microphone sound good. A shuresm7b is a awesome Microphone. But understand it requires extra equipment, or a great interface to bring out the sound of that microphone .Choose the best Mic in your budget post edit and go from there. Your listeners are not paying attention to your set up as much unless they’re trying to do what your doing .They are watching you and enjoying your content. Remember that.

When the Q9U was still newly released, what few videos I found, including ones with mic comparisons, I was pretty shocked to hear how muffled it sounded in flat mode. A mic that cost $200 USD, and I've heard mics more than half the price that didn't have that amount of mud to it, both USB and XLR. The fact you have to engage the mid-boost to make sound like you've removed about 3 thick blankets from it just did not sit well with me. It even makes me wonder if the mid-boost switch is less of a feature and more of a fix.
Even at $150 or $120 USD I've seen it go for in recent times, I still feel that I get better price-to-performance value getting the likes of the Samson Q2U, Audio-Technica AT2005, and Audio-Technica ATR2100x mics, all of which still cost less money (between $70 to $80/$100) and give me good audio quality from the word go, and this is just in the USB-XLR category that are handheld-style.
I won't even go into which XLR dynamic mics of any style are more preferable to the Q9U for less money because I think we all know those options by now.
Essentially, I'd pass on the Q9U and take my chances with just about anything else, because at least I'll have a mic with much cleaner sound and feel like it was worth the cost of investment.

Txs. Honestly I heard no difference between the SHureSM7b and the Q9U. But I heard an improvement in the Q9U over the Q2U which we already have in terms of more bass but perhaps the Q2U wins if a more neutral not so bassy sound is preferred: In terms of broadcasting the Q9U would win if one has a high pitched voice. ALso the Q2U is shaped as a handheld microphone and so it is more aimed at singing which we do. I noticed a problem when you approached the Q9U, 1 inch, that it became too muffled and bassy, but I have no point of reference to debate that.
YOu know if it is good for broadcasting then for singing as well so if Shure SM7b was good enough for many musicians to record their albums then surely Q9U is of the same quality according to my ears. Not necessarily the other way around in my opinion. I also prefer the Q9U over the RE20 if you want a more bassy sound. Actually for your voice the Q9U sounds better. THanks for good informative videos.
