🍔 Fat Protocol 🍔
Perhaps one of the most relevant that I have seen is that of the "Fat Protocol" theory
This was an investment model that was first popularised by Joel Monegro over at Union Square Ventures - one of the most well known VCs in the world
It is based on the notion that Ethereum has built a protocol that is most able to capture value - hence the term "Fat"
This is compared to some of the established protocols out there like TCPIP which are "thin". All of the value in these protocols is concentrated in the application layer. There is no value that accrues to the protocol layer. This is different in the case of Ethereum where the network benefits from dApp use
You also have Metcalfe's law that dictates the value of a network is proportional to the square of users on it. So, it is essentially an exponential functoin of all the users on the network
📈 ETH Demand 📈
Recently, Ethereum network demand has been surging. You only need take a look at the total number of active addresses on the Ethereum network. This is at an all time high at over 580,000 addresses
This is being drive by
- Defi: Thousands of dApps with over 50 billion in TVL
- Stablecoin Demand: Billions has been issued on the Ethereum Network
- NFTs: These are all minted on the Ethereum network and requries gas in order to do it.
All of these factors add to the argument of ETH value according to the Fat protocol as well as Metcalfe's law.
📈 Layer 2 Scaling 📈
Given that there was a delay in the Optimism scaling solution there has been some concerns about ETH scaling. However, there are a number of other really important layer 2 solutions out there.
Polygon have developed a child chain architecture that leverages zkRollups and Optimistic rollups. Polygon childchains will be able to leverage the security, robustness, and network effects of the Ethereum blockchain.
Given that this is layer 2 it means that scaling can be done off of the main chain. As more Etheruem dApps start to integrate with Polygon it will mean less bloat on the main network.
🇬🇧 EIP 1559 & Proof of Stake 🇬🇧
This is a change in the way that the Ethereum Gas fee auction market works. It will see the implementation of a standardised "base fee" and an optional Tip that can be paid to speed up transactions.
Now, while EIP-1559 may not nessecarily reduce gas fees per se, it will make them more predictable and easier to use. You won't need to adjust gas limits based on current market conditions as the Base fee will be dynamically adjusted.
Given that Miners are not a fan of EIP1559, they threatened to stage rebellion. This led to efforts by some in the ETH community to to hurry along the Proof of Stake merge. This would happen in Phase 1 which would mean that Ethereum could scale much quicker.
💸 Price Potential 💸
There are many factors that are price positive for ETH. These include both demand and supply factors:
- Increasing utility demand
- Increasing invesment demand
- Decreasing Exchange Supply
- More ETH in Defi Smart Contracts
- More ETH in the ETH 2.0 deposit contract
- potential impact of Fee burns

Why do you think Visa, Master Card, JP Morgan, and Microsoft have decided to work with Ethereum? ETH is going to be the absolute largest network effect the world has ever seen. n^2 is much much slower than exponential growth. Exponential growth would require the network value to grow like c^n, for some constant c>1.
(Sadly this seems to be a common inaccuracy in cryptoland; using terms like 'exponential' and 'parabolic' for anything that just exhibits some form of superlinear growth...)

@@baxtertoad8901 yes. There al all L1 (layer 1 consensus) general purpose blockchain protocols. And wether or not only one chall remain is the million dollar quartile. I personally thinks there will be more and some interoperability between them will develop. But i also strongly believe Ethereum will be the dominant protocol aqruiing more value. But like Guy said. Value≠price.
@@baxtertoad8901 yes, they will each have their place. Some will gain much greater market share. Hard to argue against the incumbent Ethereum. tezos and vechain rely on a selected/screened pool of validators, so you can't really call them decentralized. Cardano separates the network layer from the smart contract layer, so in a way you can say it's a third generation blockchain like Polkadot and Elrond (btc is gen 1, ETH 1.0 is gen 2). Elrond is laser focused on ultra high throughput, there will likely be a use case for it, but I'm not sure it'll be enough to gain it significant market share over Ethereum, Cardano and Polkadot. Polkadot has the whole blockchain of blockchains thing going on - a very good niche. Cardano has the best on-chain governance and a rabid fan base of developers and investors. This is a great time to be a tech investor and enthusiast.

2.0 is just the upgrade coming for the current Ethereum. Nothing will change with the coin you currently hold its still all the same Ethereum.
you cant buy eth 2.0. you can only buy eth (normal ethereum, no "classic" = 1.0). When you stake your Eth (1.0), lets say on Binance, it will be locked until eth 2.0 updates is there. However you will get a token, which has the exact same price as eth, for binance e.g. it is BETH, which you then can convert to eth 2.0, when its finished, so there is no risk in staking you can get out any time. However, as a lot eth are staked, they are technically locked away from selling, which could avoid large sells and market drops and also could lead towards price rallys.
If you’re off the waitlist for staking ETH you can earn ETH2.0 at 6% interest on Coinbase.
@@REDSavage369 Is it 6% per year? I am wrapping my ETH through Feg.exchange and I get close to 1% per day and that is even before FEG exchange 2.0 release (which will bring higher volume). Given the compound interest, you can just imagine the potential. And you have the custody of your tokens, not leaving them on an exchange which no one should do anyway.

I've been doing 70% ETH, 20% BTC, 10% whatever I feel like now. Sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night and think "I should move my BTC over to ETH"

@@pslsewer9537 If I were a BTC whale like you probably are then I’d feel the same; but being a crab I don’t feel putting 50% in alts is the way to go. That just leaves too little BTC to secure my future and that of my family.
Most alts will go to zero or flatline. Speaking from experience in the 2017 bull run. If I had simply left my $ in BTC I’d be five times better off. You have to get lucky enough to find an alt that moons and then sell at the right time. Add to that the issue of taxable events (which we didn’t really have to worry about in 2017) when selling BTC to get into any alts and it gets even more complicated. Think I’ll focus on BTC this go round. When I move from the US tax system, I’ll be more open to alts.
Lastly, as someone who, in 2017 invested in an alt that was trying to figure out how to implement new protocols critical to its survival and failed, I’d be very wary to invest in eth before the staking protocol is a done deal. Doubly so since they have so many devs working on it and it’s still being delayed.
