8 page spread in American Rodder magazine. They call it a world class car in their opening headline! A Virginia couple wanted a high performance car, they looked at a new Z06 Corvette but then decided to build a hot rod with performance in mind. They hired The Local Hot Rod Shop to build them this car. A 430 hp motor, big brakes and high tech chassis will deliver the performance they craved.
EXTERIOR: The Local Hot Rod Shop make their own fiberglass bodies and it features a 2 inch chop, filled in roof and a relocated fuel door. This one has widened rear fenders with tapered running boards, rounded corners on the trunk lid, and of course it's all smoothed out with no handles or trim. Upfront the deuce shell is filled with a Dan Fink grill, it has King Bee headlights with hidden wiring. The turn signals are incorporated into the chrome spreader bar. It has a 3 piece metal hood and a chrome windshield frame. The rear of the car focuses attention on the beautiful finned and polished rear suspension. The fuel tank was relocated, frame horns were bobbed and the license plate magically folds up out of sight. There was a tremendous amount of work making the taillights from scratch to match the rear end. They were mounted under the car to keep a clean look, they have LED bulbs and there's a 3rd brake light under the window. The car was professionally painted Torch red. As quoted from the magazine- "The panels were buffed to perfection and fanatically fitted". It rolls on a set of polished Budnick Famosa wheels- 15x6 in front and 17x8.5s in back.
INTERIOR: A white oak instrument panel is filled with a full set of VDO gauges. Below that is a custom made valance that flows right down into a mini console. This incorporates the a/c vents and controls, and a Genie shifter. The pistol grip handle was custom made using white oak and aluminum layers. A polished Ididit tilt column holds a Budnik billet steering wheel that match the wheels. A 4 point roll bar was fabricated and installed behind the seats, it enhances the high performance mood in the cockpit. Glide seats were used and Portage Trim upholstered the entire inside of the car and the craftsmanship is undeniable. It has 3 point seatbelts. Ron Francis wiring harness throughout. An overhead console holds the stereo. It has plush carpet with bound edges and matching mats. There are power windows, dead bolt locks for the doors and a chrome e-brake handle.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: A GM crate ZZ 350 making 430 horsepower moves this hot rod down the road. It is decked out with polished parts. On top is a set of cast aluminum Chevrolet valve covers, polished Quick Fuel carb with premium linkage and braided fuel lines, an MSD ignition system and a one wire alternator. A brass radiator, aluminum water pump, electric fan and polished overflow tube keep it cool. A Vintage Air system provides heat and a/c. Braided stainless hoses are used throughout the motor compartment. The steering linkage is chrome, it has braided trans dipstick, coated headers etc.
