As I have sent you some golden syrup, you could find a British flapjack recipe and use it to make some British flap jacks!
Or pineapple upside down cakes….they are so good! 😂 so many things you can make with golden syrup or British gingerbread; no molasses in ours.
Love it when Steve bursts into silly song. 😂
Hilarious Steve, I just burst out laughing in my big open plan office with my headphones on, now getting funny looks!
😂
I like how you cut everything up first because it saves alot of time but maybe would be good to show the wrapper of what your trying everytime because I was struggling to know what you were actually eating
Yeh same
Glad you enjoyed the Nakd bars I sent! Obviously they’ve got natural sugar so don’t get too addicted - not easy I know - but it’s basically pressed whole fruit with lots of fibre and micronutrients etc. They’ve helped me get more fruit in my diet. And they are made in England but do now sell in US too.
Choc orange and rhubarb and custard are my fav!
@@lolsaXxthey are excellent too. Someone should send them the chocolate ones
My favourites - the banoffee is the best.
Thanks Dan! Yes, they've been very much enjoyed--especially by Sophia. She would rather not share them 😂
So it's your fault he started singing on a sugar high!? lol
Fresh baked flapjacks are delicious. I had one from my local bakery the other day and it was so good.
Also flapjacks are more in the cake category. So you may see them on a cafe counter with all the other cakes on display.
First thing we made in food tech class in school were flapjacks. Makes sense as it's really simple but also offers a lot of opportunities to teach kids about dangerous things with cooking, like hot sugar basically being napalm lol
Ours was a pizza lol
OMG what happened in your class
My flapjacks were so stuck to the foil tray they were baked in that they had to be carved out little by little using a carving knife 😂 Still tasty though 😋
@@faithpearlgenied-a5517 Ours was spaghetti bolognese...sort of.
Mine was making brandy snaps….. imagine a class of 12 year olds in a Domestic Science lesson - as it was called in those good old days… food tech?? Eh what?? - with boiling up golden syrup and sugar, “cooking” the thing, then carefully rolling a still very very hot lump of sugary goo around the middle of a small rolling pain to make it curl up! Not a pretty sight! 😂😂
7:27 The moment Lindsay realised she married an Axl Rose tribute act! 🎤
Next episode is just Steve in a trailer.
"You're one in a million, yes that's what you are!"
hahaha. Yeah, she's used to it!
I make flapjacks most weeks - I sometimes add nuts and seeds, or chocolate chips, but mostly just oats, butter, brown sugar and golden syrup. They're definitely delicious,, especially when not overcooked so they are still moist and a bit squidgy - but they couldn't ever be described as a 'healthy snack' lol
Steve singing just cracked me up! A definite sugar rush.
Flapjacks are an ideal work snack. They are a dlow-release source of energy.
One of my aunts used to make her own flapjacks. They were incredible! Every Christmas, she would make a huge Tupperware box full of them that would last from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day, so I always associate them with Christmas. 🎄🎅🎁😊
I bet they're soooo good homemade.
I used to make them with my grandmother, but she lost the recipe years ago and they were heavenly.
So funny to see Steve burst into song over a nut bar lol. Well thats your digestion well andd truely sorted out. Not the thing i would normally pick up but i might give them a try.
The "Nakd" bars are pronounced "Naked", as it's meant to allude to being natural :-)
Most people don’t realise that. It’s like when people read Shakespeare and they do the same thing when they see a ‘ between a word.
Steve bursting into song again
Love how excited Steve gets over sugary taste tests! 😂
This sort of bar makes a great breakfast-on-the go, or afternoon pick-me-up, as you suggested.
I tend to find pre-packaged flapjack disappointing. Home made, or store baked, versions are generally much more moist and syrupy.
You need to start doing ad jingles😂
Now that's a good idea!😂
For snacks 😂
The nakd brand are my favourite and my regular go to snack. I love the blueberry muffin fruit bar.
Ooooh I love the orange coco Nakd bar 😛 a bit too much :/
I love the salted caramel bits 😊
There are good but not too keen on salted caramel. What’s amazing is the ingredients don’t differ much yet the taste really does and are so simple too. I actually sent these to Steve a while back.
Looove flap jacks
I think Steve was high on sugar there! 😂
I was about to say the same thing 😂. Mary G
What did we learn from this video?
Lindsay didn't hear steves singing voice before they married lol
Flapjacks, so easy to make.
So many different flavour combinations and generally quite healthy.
I’m terrible at baking but I can make a flapjack 😂
Lindsay spends the afternoon peeling Steve off the ceiling
😂
Flapjacks tend to be soft when purchased from a shop but home baked are more crunchy. There is the baked version and refrigerated version which tends to the soft type.
You guys are part of my morning routine 🥲❤
Thanks, Maria! We appreciate you hanging out with us :)
We make flapjacks at home with the kids all the time, really quick and simple to make and taste great. We only add Oats, Butter, Brown Sugar and Golden Syrup so a nice cheap snack. You can pimp it up with chocolate or fruit etc. if you want but plain ones are also really nice. Those Nakd and Eat Natural bars are also nice but pricey if you eat them often. We can make a big tray of flapjacks at home cheaply. Have a look for the BBC Good Food recipe for flapjacks (and other British stuff) online
I also have a recipe that includes crushed up cornflakes really crispy 😊
Think Steve is having a sugar rush 😂😂
And a happiness rush. 😂
My favourite are home made flapjacks. Nice large oats and lots of golden syrup! I have them as like a little snack cake bar after my lunch.
I remember when Scottish oats used to have a flapjack recipe on the back of the box. 😂
@@jessieb7290 They still do actually. It's the recipe that my family uses in our house.
They are healthier because they add more 'roughage' to your diet! 😀
How do you remember which Bar is which cutting them all up .Surely it would be better to keep in wrappers .and undo
Ha ha when Steve started singing and declaring his love for the snack bars 😆😆😆😆😆 I was blow-drying my hair with the subtitles on - I switched the hairdryer off to listen 😆😆😆😆😆 my 4 year old grandson loves flapjacks - plain ones fruity ones and the chocolate ones 😋😋😋 I usually buy a pack of the bitesize ones for him 💙💙💙 my son is in the Navy I usually send him a parcel with a big box of granola protein bars in there he loves them ⚓🇬🇧
Why do Americans “cheers” food? I’ve never seen anyone do that in the UK, but see it all the time on similar videos from Americans haha
I think some of them think we do it. 😅
I agree, we don’t cheers food at all, just drinks.
and smell them before trying
We really don't...it started as a joke and just kinda stuck haha
It happens on every taste test video. I cheers food when I share food with my niece and I was born in England. So everyone is different!
Hey, hang on, I’ll be there in a few minutes (I’m in the UK)😂😂😂 …. there’s enough there, I can take Sophia’s place, 😊 Regards, MaryG
😂
Based on how Steve is reacting I can see where his daughter gets her engagement for these snack bars come from 😂😂😂😂😂.
Flapjacks are so simple to make, but so full of goodness. I'm so surprised you don't have them over in the US. They're all so high in protein, and boost one's energy no end. BTW, Steve, you have the voice of an angel 😊
Those first bars you tried we would call cereal bars.
Shop bought, factory made flapjacks aren't great to be honest. The nicest ones are from a bakery or independent café, but they're also super simple to make yourself:
250g rolled oats
125g butter
125g brown sugar
3 tbsp golden syrup (if you can't get hold of this, then honey will do but this changes the flavour so avoid honeys with strong flavours)
seeds, dried fruit, etc (optional) - I like chia seeds and dried apricots, but you can use anything you have to hand
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C fan (350°F) / gas mark 6.
2. Melt the butter, golden syrup and sugar in a pan on a low heat, stirring continuously.
3. Mix the oats and any fruit, seeds, etc together in a mixing bowl.
4. Stir the syrupy mixture into the oats and mix really well to ensure everything is covered and the fruit, etc is evenly distributed.
5. Grease and line a rectangular baking tin with baking paper (assuming you'd like to be able to get the flapjacks out again!).
6. Pour the mixture into your prepared tin and spread into the corners with the back of a spoon.
7. Bake for 15 minutes (a longer bake will make them crunchy instead of gooey, but it's very easy to overbake them and end up with rocks!).
8. Allow to cool slightly and then slice into squares or fingers whilst still warm (but leave in the tin for now).
9. Allow to cool completely and then remove from the tin (some of them may need recutting, but this will be much easier if you remembered to precut them!).
10. Eat and enjoy!
Good morning from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 enjoy your snacks ❤
It's so funny how every time you love something you have tasted you break into song. 😂
Mallow and Marsh are my new favourite, anything. The Raspberry and Dark Chocolate is out of this world.
Worth it for hearing Steve sing
Peace love from England ❤
I adore the Eat Natural bars my personal favourite is the Cranberry and Dark Chocolate although the Almond and Yoghurt is delicious too.
This selection of "healthy" bars is only scratching the surface of what we have available in the UK. They are slightly healthier than eating chocolate bars and I used to eat a couple a day when I was working.
The Nakd bars are different, interesting but not bad. The blueberry ones are nice but I love blueberries.
Tell you what, at this rate you'll be coming to live in the UK😁🇬🇧
A singing video of karaoke with us judging live would bring you a lot of money mate, not been done on YT before!!!!!!!!!!❤❤
yeah flapjack are not a breakfast item.
I would choose a flapjack everytime over the other bars and would happily demolish any bakewell flapjacks I come across.
Once you have a home made bakewell tart, you'll never have a bakewell tart flavour anything, not even a Mr.Kiplings cherry bakewell.
But he makes exceedingly good cakes 😂
@@toriamigo exceeding what? Asda smart price
@@Millennial_Manc I dont think you understand
@@toriamigo obviously never seen the advert’s 😂😂😂
@susansmiles2242 how unbritish of them!
What you need is a big mug of tea to go with that lot! 😁
Just what I thought
Hello from central London. Steve you need to do a video on the difference between shopping in the UK and USA the way shop staff interact with customers and what you call a mall and we call a shopping centre. Also for a different kind of video Steve look for the London to Brighton vintage car run. I think you would enjoy it.
Every single day for 5 years in high school, I ate chips, cheese and gravy and always a flap jack for afters. Now as a adult I hate them I think I ate too many 😂
Thanks Steve! Made me laugh. Thought I was watching an episode of Flight of the Conchords! Ooo baby! Haha!
Steve and Lindsay remember none of these bars have GMOs in them. As in the UK we dont ever have to worry about that rubbish in our foods, i know its a big problem there. Not even our oils or flours are GMO.
The problem with GMOs is not the modified plant, it's the fact that the _purpose_ of the modification is to allow it to be hosed down with pesticides.
Which you then end up eating.
Thanks both. A little contribution in case Sophia is looking to track down more Nakd berry bars!
haha, thanks again Dan! I'm sure they're going to be a regular in our rotation :)
Steve looking quite bohemian, there, right there. Beatnik! 🫰🏾
They make cranberry and white chocolate flapjacks.
Love the Berry Delight bars from Nak’d, also like the Coffee and Walnut flavour bars from the same company.
Eating one now!
When l worked there was a bakery who made flapjacks with forest fruits and chocolate chips. This was my treat once a week to l was dieting and living on salad's. It was only when I read the label, four portions, that I realised why l thought they were filling.
I have never tried snack bars or flapjacks, they have never looked that to great to me. I love millionaires shortbread though. Great video!
It's hit and miss. I love the KIND and Nakd bars.
I love them, millionaire shortbread is something else though..i could eat flap jacks daily but not the mshortbread.
Lindsay's face as Steve stopped singing was brilliant.
Love flapjack.
Steve eating sweet foods is like a light weight drinker after the first glass. A bit of a buzz and the inhibitions start to fade, karaoke anyone 😂
I would love to see Steve do karaoke 🎤 😂
Steve's a really good singer!! 😄
I always buy flap jacks and bars from B&M as the 29p each the flap jacks that is. Never been a fam of the naked bars
That's an incredible price!
Yea we are lucky in bognor Regis as in the same area we have b&m. home bargains.
Food warehouse. Lidl. And Tesco so shopping is in out and home. I like a walk about the shops but the wife hates it. 😂
OMG really? Are they decent at that price point? I love flapjack
Been having a crappy time lately but these videos always cheer me up, so thanks and keep them coming. You should make your own flapjack, it’s very easy and cheap and tastes way better, you can add fruit if you want to, but lovely just plain too x
Thanks for being part of the Roots fam! Hope things turn around for you soon. ❤️ Sending love from across the pond.
@@reactingtomyroots thank you so much x 🥰
Hi Guys , skinny whip are my go to snack especially when I'm at work , low cal and chewy with choc coating and a good choice of flavours, will have to send some next time for you .😊
7:17 - The exact moment Steve turned into Lionel Richie!
I have always made my own flapjacks…. Oats golden syrup butter sugar and dried fruit yummy 😋
Flapjacks are more of a cake than a granola bar. You'd eat it for snack/dessert rather than breakfast. You get mini flapjacks in tubs with rocky road, millionaires shortbread, mini roll cake bites etc.
Great video guys :) the factory that makes Eat Natural bars is actually in my town, the very small town of Halstead in Essex. Known a few people to work there over the years too. Always found it crazy to think an extremely well known UK wide product is made in sleepy Halstead and always has been :')
I wouldn’t call any of those flapjacks, they’re snack bars! Flapjacks are just oats, butter and golden syrup or honey. Occasionally you can add dried fruit. They should be slightly crisp on the outside and chewy in the middle.
The flapjacks at the end aren’t flapjacks?
@@Millennial_Manc I would say yes and no...they are what shop bought mass produced flapjacks tend to be like, but not really how homemade ones really are when you make them. Bought ones tend to be kind of soft...I prefer to cook them a little longer so they're a bit firmer, more golden and chewier; sometimes add in a handful of lightly crushed cornflakes for a bit of extra crunch.
I mostly see flapjacks sold as part of a "Meal Deal" Crisps, sandwich, flapjack and a drink.
My favourite nakd bars are the berry delight and the blueberry muffin. The Bakewell Tart is also not a favourite of mine. I have never seen the lemon drizzle, so I'm going to look for that to try. Great reaction. I also love the Eat Naturals bars. 😊
Always here for a nakd bar. I discovered them when I became vegan when you could only buy them at health food stores. I've never looked back. Also love the dark choc, apple and ginger eat natural 😋
Flapjacks are super easy and fun cooking w/Sophia. I made a bunch of Malt Loaf the other day that was super easy too - just did in a mixing jug/pitcher by eye.
Too much sugar, but - life + food are for enjoying :)
Great video guys! I could imagine the taste at the same time as you were eating them because of knowing the flavours so well. My son has a cadburys brunch bar in his lunchbox each day - they come in peanut flavour too.
I’ve never tried the eat naturally ones before. They all seem good.
I think people should send you guys recipes, maybe homemade recipes. That would be good to see you guys trying some homemade items.
I really love these taste test videos and the package opening videos.
😂😂😂I sing to food too. Some things are too good, they bring out the happiness. 😂
Love your flat cap, it suits you!
It’s not nekkid, it’s naykd, because the line above the “a” makes it the long vowel sound.
The nicest one I've found is the Eat Natural bar in the orange wrapper. :)
The blueberry yoghurt bars were the hardest to get. I’ve tried almost all 20+ flavours and that’s my fav but I hadn’t tried it till I got those for you. Almost ate yours! None of the supermarkets have them… only health food store and boxes of 12 from Amazon.
They are definitely our fave! Couldn't have blamed you if they didn't make it over 😂
I used to get them from Holland and Barrett when I could afford snacks 😢 but the blueberry one is good.
I can imagine Steve bouncing off the walls as soon as the video recording was finished.!!! xxx
Lindsay Hahaha Steve will be climbing the walls later just send him out for a jog around the block. Guys again nice with a nice cuppa tea.
Flapjack with custard yummy😊
The missing bar is my fave, eat natural dark chocolate chip an blueberry is the best!
The apricot yoghurt bar was an eat natural bar as well. They also do a dark chocolate and cranberry which is my personal favourite though they are all good.
Love the singing Steve 😂😂😂
😂😂😂great about Sophia liking the bars.Love your cap Steve
lol Steve will be bouncing of the walls at the end of your taster sugar rush lol xx
😂😂😂we have to send you singing your praises to the company that made these bars.It would make a great advert😂😂😂
The brunch bars come in a box of 5,i absolutely love them, the one you have is my fav..🏴🏴🥰🥰
I’d actually be interested to know which one was highest in sugar. Our foods have a “traffic lights system” they have colour codes on the labels/boxes. So it should have green(healthy), orange (middle of the road), then red (unhealthy). The colours are in each category so like fats, sugars, fibre, carbs etc.
I bet we’d all be surprised. Because back in the day my mum thought Alpen cereal was healthy; very high in sugar, so she was wrong 😂
Haha Steve has turned into "date mike" from the office with the same hat hahaha
Glad you liked the eat natural bars, I live five minutes from the factory in the uk, the smell from the factory is so nice when you go past
Flapjacks really aren't healthy as they're full of golden syrup, but they're so good also my favourite is toffee, I actually find the chocolate topped flapjacks too sweet.
They recently cut 40% of the sugar from the Graze ones so not as bad as some others. Wouldn’t call them healthy though.
You really suit that cap Steve, I enjoyed the footage
Whenever lindsey says mmmmm it means don't like it 😅😅,flapjacks arnt nutrition bars they are made with treacle to bind them together
Wicked video lol to Steve made me laugh with his singing
lately, this channel is more "eating my roots" lol
Hopefully you will be trying other regional sweet treats soon, such as Fat Rascals, Chorley Cakes, Sally Lunn’s, Eccles Cakes,Chelsea Buns and Dundee Cakes.
I regularly buy the white choc flapjack as an easy food to put in my bag if I'm out & about. Haven't tried all of the rest tho.
You can give them as homemade gifts at Christmas. That’s what our family used to do when we were kids, also gets the kids involved in making a gift.
Flapjacks are one of my favourite things, but I don't think they need toppings on them. I would agree it makes them too sweet. I have tended to sprinkle a little salt on the top before baking which helps. My mum has finally mastered them and her recipe has quite a dark sugar mixture which adds a little bitterness and some saltiness which really helps cut through the sweetness.
Flapjacks are a great family bake though so maybe you could make some with Sophia 😊
I often use half black treacle and half golden syrup - they have a lovely, almost toffee, flavour, but not as sweet.
I have dozens of these kinds of bars at home. I have a medical condition causing wastage so need to eat a lot of protein. I but specifically the high protein variants but they’re so delicious
Flapjack's come in many flavours, often served at tea time. They are not breakfast or protein bars.
Some are covered in chocolate too.
