Freediving with Humpback Whales in Moorea

Being in the water with a Humpback Whale is one of life's best gifts. They are calm, peaceful, beautiful, and (obviously) extremely large. Their grandeur is humbling, their intelligence is palpable, and their songs are enlightening.
We are unable to swim with them in Hawaii, which is probably a good thing. Allowing them to rest after a long journey from Alaska, to birth their calves, interact with one another, and mate without being interrupted is something that should be protected. But it was nice to travel elsewhere and to have these experiences so consistently. Between working on a whale watching boat, constantly observing their behavior through drone observation, and the time I was able to be in the water with them in Moorea, I have slowly began to understand the Humpback whale, and they have become less of a mystery.
If swimming with Humpback Whales is something you're interested in, I highly recommend Tahiti Shark Expeditions. They were extremely knowledgeable and respectful to the animals. And their Poisson Cru lunches were delicious!!

We stayed at Hotel Kaveka located in Cooks Bay. It was nice, the rooms were small and cute. But it was definitely not a high end hotel. The best part was its location. They had a dock that extended into Cooks Bay where Tahiti Shark Expeditions could pick us up. So we didn't have to rent a car for the entire vacation.
