Anthony LaMonica but sadly the second one will only be made if the first is successful. I hope it we do get it, but based off of how much money BR2049 made, I am concerned about whether we will get the second.
Polymath I’d say the first book is more like A New Hope than Felowship of the Ring. It has a fairly conclusive ending, but there are some things to set up the sequels. Also, the original author died before completing the series, and the ones written by his son are usually considered to be not nearly as good as the originals.
@Polymath The first Dune is a complete story that can be enjoyed alone, if this does well I could see them continuing the story but it's not needed. Tolkien considered Lord of the Rings a single book broken into 3 parts.
@Polymath Books breakdown: First book is tells it's standalone story. 2nd book is the shortest and it's more like an epilogue to the first book and a big lead-in for the third. 3rd book is another great story, that sets the course for the next 3 books. 4th book is the WILDEST extent of the story. I love it, a crazy sequel to the 3rd. I'd say 5 and 6 are a two-parter, beyond the primary story of the first 4 books. These ones are really good, too, it's just that they may be telling stories of characters you don't care about. Those are the only books that matter cuz they were written by Frank Herbert, I'm not interested in checking out the other books by his son and other co-author. They fill in some of the history, and they fill in some holes in some of the storytelling time jumps between the original novels.
After Splitting Hunger games, Harry Potter, twilight and the Hobbit into parts, splitting Dune into two movies is probably the only time where I think it’s an incredible idea. Way too much story for one movie
Duke Atreides was given Arrakis by the Emperor as a "reward." But Arrakis is under the control of a vindictive and sadistic super genius, Baron Harkonnen. In this way, the Emperor hopes to eliminate the Atreides through Baron Harkonnen without dirtying the Emperor's hands.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit my fear to pass over me and through me. Pink Floyd was supposed to do the score for the film planned in the 1970s but they never made it. This was just a nod to it. There’s no Pink Floyd in this movie soundtrack.
It's certainly a perfect sequel for me. It took all the themes of the first movie, updated, elevated and brought them forward within the world the fist film established. I can't think of a better sequel.
The shields are high frequency so a bullet or arrow won't pierce them and a laser blast will cause it to explode like a nuke. Only way to fight effectively is with knives and blades
It's funny how you can almost immediately tell how seriously the reactors are taking the movie just by the fact of whether they make a Seven reference when Paul ask "what's in the box?". If someone makes a joke about Seven, you know they know next to nothing about the book or its importance for science fiction.
David Dashmillian was cast early on to play Peiter DrVreis. Didn't see his name with other actors at the end of the clip, didn't see him. This is the best character in the book. He plans the Dukes downfall with the Barron.
I saw blade runner a few times in theaters. They also showed it as a feature film on a cruise ship i was on (free on the huge screen on the deck). Every chair was packed by the end and it was the only movie shown were people clapped and stayed around after it was over to talk about it. (The movie ended around 2 am). I wish those people had seen it in theatres...
I hope things get better so we all can see these movies in theater. I live in Vegas and saw Tenet last weekend in an empty theater. You guys are welcome to come out here if Cali doesn't open up any time soon.
Before the trailer I was already sold because it's Denis Villeneuve. Dude made Sicario, Arrival (one of the greatest films using Time as a plot device) Blade Runner 2049... I would've gone to see this without seeing a trailer, I'm so down.
I guess that's a good thing because of how meaty the book is and there's soooo much that the original Lynch film cut out, but I also just want to see it all now!
I watched dune once but it was a vhs I borrowed from the library and it had been watched Soo much that it was pretty much impossible to tell what it was about.
The SyFy mini-series from the early 2000s is actually pretty good, bad special effects aside, they did a good job of getting all the major story bits, and the second series stars a young McAvoy (edit: wrote this right before kevin said it)
I get the comparisons to BR2049 but I'd say Dune has a larger fan base to draw from, and those who aren't fans have at least heard about some parts of it, like the spice and or the sand worms. Plus people are hungry for new content, if there's just this and nothing much else in theaters then who knows?
The question I think everyone is asking: Will there be a Villeneuve in Review leading into Dune? All the movies I can think of are great. Definitely rivals (and imo surpasses) Nolan in this age of directors.
I’ve heard August 32nd on Earth and Maelstrom aren’t that great, but his other movies are amazing. However, I feel like Polytechnique might be too depressing for In Review.
You know you are old when they don’t even know that’s a Pink Floyd song, like one of the most popular songs in history! Oh...and it’s the Iron Isles to Dorne. That’s would be a simile transition.
I really like the shade of blue they gave the eyes. I need to finally read the book. I did watch the miniseries from Sci-Fi when it released on tv, but didn't really get into it. Gotta watch the Lynch film at some point as well. Though my grandmother got me into sci-fi, I just never watched it for some reason.
You guys should do Dune in Review for when this comes out! It would be cool if you could include the Sy-Fi miniseries that very closely follows the book, but that is currently only available on DVD and not on ANY streaming service! Also the story may be old if you watch it twice before seeing this new adaption.
I went to the theater to see Tenet last night and it couldn't have been any safer. You have a much higher chance of contracting COVID at the supermarket or pharmacy than at the movie theater right now
I didn't know 2049 flopped at the box office, that's sad. I will see anything Denis Villeneuve puts out. He's on a hot steak like no other. Enemy, Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival, 2049... dude has become my favorite active director. And there are a ton of good ones right now.
One of the reasons I think Bladerunner 2049 didn't do well is because the first movie, though being well respected for its visual style and world building, is a very slow movie. Dune on the other hand is considered a pillar of Sci Fi novels. Its influenced almost everything for 55 years. And everyone who read the book has loved it.
This film will only cover the first half of the book...so there was always the intention of this spanning over 2 films...plus having the HBO series as well 😊
12:44 Dune inspired star wars so it only seems fitting. Looks great though, thought the Pink Floyd choice was cool too (nick made me facepalm), but it had a whiff of YA, which was hopefully just due to it being a trailer. Loved Villeneuve's other work, so I've got a lot of faith.
I saw Kevin pop up about the HBO series and I hoped above hope. Maybe Kevin will make multiple Kevins in a circle to be like the worms teeth and try to moan and roar like a worm when the worm shows up at the end of the trailer.
They actually confirmed they're splitting the first book into two movies, this one and then a part 2 that will come out
And a Dune prequel show on hbo max
Anthony LaMonica but sadly the second one will only be made if the first is successful. I hope it we do get it, but based off of how much money BR2049 made, I am concerned about whether we will get the second.

The Pink Floyd song is a nod to Jodorowsky’s Dune because he was gonna have Pink Floyd score the film.
the lyrics also apply to the story
The "Bene Jesuits", the "Atreus" family, omigod lol.
There is a reason why it reminds people of Star Wars, Lucas claims he lifted most of Star Wars from the novel Dune.
Yeup! Dune is the forefather to pretty much all of modern science fiction, and Star Wars is the prime example of that.
The slow blade penetrates the shield.
fast on defense, slow on attack
It was an enjoyable reaction until my man called Eclipse by Pink Floyd, "circle of life -music!!"

For Nick, I believe it’s 2 parts. So there’s around 4-5 hours of the story in total
There is also a Dune prequel show being ordered on HBO Max
@@nicktiznado8492 Is it really a prequel or will be sequel?
@@HevonCZR The show will be set as a spin-off and prequel to the Dune 2020

starry eyes yeah they were supposed to score Jodorowskys film. Or at least that’s who Alejandro wanted to score it
Bladerunner 2049 is possibly my favourite film of all time and this looks fantastic
It's a masterpiece.
It's certainly a perfect sequel for me. It took all the themes of the first movie, updated, elevated and brought them forward within the world the fist film established. I can't think of a better sequel.
Dune II, building of a dynasty- The video game that got me into video games.
I will risk Covid to see this in IMAX
Dune is where Lucas got the idea for Star Wars & RR Martin was also a fan, hence the similarities between this, Star Wars & Game of Thrones.
Pretty sure they are splitting the first book into at least 2 movies
Star Wars took inspiration from Dune. So much so that Frank Hebert said he should of sued George Lucas.
2 Movies. Dune: The Sisterhood for HBO Max about the Bene Gesserit's
Pretty much anytime Denis Villeneuve and Roger Deakins do anything together, its going to be timeless cinema.
Tim: "How is this going to be a single movie?"
Villeneuve: "Part I"

I'm completely blown away by the trailer. It looked amazing!!
Glad you guys liked it! I may or may not be working on the VFX for this.. Super excited to watch it on theaters (hopefully)!
Nice, must be fun to get to potentially maybe work on vfx for a movie like this as I’m sure there’s a lot of trash to work on usually.
I hope things get better so we all can see these movies in theater. I live in Vegas and saw Tenet last weekend in an empty theater. You guys are welcome to come out here if Cali doesn't open up any time soon.

The theme is 'Eclipse' from Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon, one of the best albums of all time.
Yes it is being spit into two movies. This movie will unite the world!
It’s going to be in two parts so don’t worry they aren’t shoving in like a whole book in one film.
And the lore is insane! The idea that spice allows creatures to travel FTL. And they have a market on it.
Fun fact, Alejandro Jodorowski wanted Pink Floyd to do the soundtrack to his version of Dune. Brilliant nod to that here. I can't wait for this!
WE NEED DUNE IN REVIEW!!!! Part 2 is coming guys! Doooo it!
WTF I didn’t know you did a reaction video to this? Awesome. Going to see this at the weekend!
This looks awesome. Love seeing Nick get excited for his movies.
My dude Kev droppin that Dune knowledge...
The song is "Eclipse" by Pink Floyd, a call-back to Jodorowsky's planned Dune movie, which was going to incorporate a lot of Pink Floyd's music.
They are doing dune in 2 movies, this is the first part
I guess that's a good thing because of how meaty the book is and there's soooo much that the original Lynch film cut out, but I also just want to see it all now!
"Not sure about this Circle of Life music"

Come on, guys: nothing beat Sting in that metallic codpiece.
LOLOLOLOL
I remember Virginia Madsen saying her and Sean Young would hang around the set just to see Sting in his pants.
shout out to Nick for knowing his Dune lore

dannyinthemiddle why skip Prisoners? I could see them just doing his English movies, although personally I do think Incendies is his best film.
@@envynav3520 No I just thought Prisoners came out after Enemy lol, so I did mean to include Prisoners in that.
Enemy was actually made before Prisoners, but Prisoners came out first
If no one else in the comments mentioned it, there is in fact an HBO spinoff series from the movies called Dune: The Sisterhood. :)
Their use of Pink Floyd's Ecplise gave me goosebumps!

Dear god, what is more compelling, Sting's Dune codpiece or David Bowie's excitement in Labyrinth?
If NC still doesn't have theaters open when this comes out I will drive to a state that does just to see it!
Blade Runner 2049 is my favorite film. I think this will be another great film from Denis. Definitely one of the best in the industry.

GOOD NEWS Nick they are making it into 2 parts.
Also, is this a shot for shot remake of the mini-series because the trailer is a shot for shot trailer!
I have never been so hyped.
I like how their background colors are red white and blue in their rooms
The song choice is absolutely killer. Say what you will about Hans Zimmer, but the dude can still absolutely kill it when he needs to
MrBab1297 I’d really hope nobody has ever doubted Hans Zimmer.
The bad guy from Beverly Hills Cop played Stilgar in the Children of Dune miniseries.
Just echoing here, but yeah, it has been confirmed that it will be 2 separate films.

Guys, dune is a planned Duology. They have a sequel panned and this movie is only covering up to the first half of the novel.
is that queen?!! NO ITS PINK FLOYD! lmao actually really fitting as they signed up to be in jodorowskys dune back in the day :)
I think that is why it is in this trailer but the score of the movie is going to be made by Hans Zimmer.

in my brain I a picture of Mr T. pops up when Arrakis comes up.
"Like the force awakening trailer ..." Holy crap. Star Wars was inspired (if I say it neatly) by Dune.
There's literally 20 books his son did all the prequels and the first book is the 12th in the story overall
Brian's books are shit from what I have heard
