@@petrhermanadventures9509 too bad more people could help out and do more of that. That was very brave man. Not everyone would go into fast moving river like that and especially to just get hooks and bobbers etc. One bonus though is you can learn alot and score some decent free hardware and hooks lol. Also to learn where fish like to hangout and hide would be cool to if you love to fish aswell😃
@@fishonalbertaoutdoors9761 Yes, I get a unique perspective on the river and I always swim the runs I like to fish. I recently raised $500 for a new gopro by selling off all the gear I found this year. I wouldn't call it brave, I simply have about 20 years of river swimming and whitewater kayaking experince, which allows me to do this safely.
@@petrhermanadventures9509 that's very cool glad I came across your channel that's awesome👍 I'm saving for a go pro to to make better quality content for people to watch aswell😊 loved you video going to check out the rest of your channel and I'm a subscriber now forsure😉

This would be fun to do in the off season. Thanks for the clean up efforts, you're a strong swimmer. I'm in mission, tend the the stave the best I can, I need some neoprene
Water was a bit high and murky in this video, but the other species are still there. I have some great footage from this summer that I still have to get around to editing which features those species.
I've always wanted to try a metal detector. Fishing lures don't actually last that long in the river. The hooks rust through after a few weeks and then the shifting gravels swallow up the metal. Could be a good way to hunt for coins too.
Yes, it was blind on one side. Unfortunately that's the kind of injury that will keep that fish from spawning. They can survive some pretty bad seal bites and hook snags, but when they lose an eye they die without spawning. Not tragic in a hatchery fish, but that same dive I saw 4 wild fish fish with the same injury, mostly from infected scratches to the eye ball. There's a good argument for landing nets for this reason alone.
@@petrhermanadventures9509 totally agree. Though that kind of incidental mortality is factored into the fishery and why it's said there is a 15% mortality across the board, certainly sad nonetheless. It actually shouldn't keep him from spawning. As long as there is one good one he can make it work, though he may not appear as the best mate lol...who cares though, it's a hatchery fish that we don't want to spawn anyway. Keep up the videos!
@@xjhedgie I can't be sure about any particular fish, but I sometimes see fish that are blind on one side and they're already starting to fall apart and still haven't spawned. I think it makes it difficult for them to swim up river, so they just sit in an eddy and languish.
Diving Sports in Couitlam hooked me up with a demo suit. It's very warm compared to my 20 year old one. I tried a dry suit last year, but there is too much suit squeeze to make it practical.
I do sell it off to offset some of the costs of doing the channel. The money I make from the vids is minimal and Gopros are expensive. I just had a big "garage sale" a couple of weeks ago. All that's left over are a bunch of floats and a bunch of lures that are more suitable for lake trout than salmon.
I recently had a "garage sale" by the river, selling all my river finds. Raised $500 toward some new video gear. Not much of a business model though, that gear took me most of a year to collect and I recently broke a $450 gopro.
Wow great video and nice of you to clean up the river like that your a great guy. Thanks
Thank you for your kind comment, I really appreciate it.

thanks for helping keep the rivers clean
Not just the rivers. 90% of ocean garbage originates in rivers.

Diving Sports in Coquitlam is awesome. That's where I got this new suit and it's very warm.
Can’t see many rainbows and whitefish. Were they not around ?thanks for the videos, we love watching them

Popped up on my suggested and I loved good! Never seen anything like it great stuff!
I'm glad you enjoyed. Actually not one of the good ones on my channel, because water clarity was crap that day.
So much fun man! I've been in the exact scenario. Good work
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ty 4 the efforts! If u use a metal detector may get more lures!

Looks like that buck coho at the end might have had some left eye damage as well, maybe a bad hook up with a piece of gear... cool video!

Yes. but I filmed this just before the water came up.

new wetsuit? curious if a dry suit would be better in cold river? thank you for the video

Wow
Thanks!
What do you do with your gear? I'd love to buy it or something unless you keep them

Well if ya wanna get rid of em send em my way 😂🤙🤙🙏 always wanted to do stuff like this got yourself a new sub
This would've been just before the big flood happened. that whole section behind you is now dry as a bone.
Yes, it's a whole new river this year.
You should start a business selling half price river finds
