He spent 3/8 on housing. 3/8 can also be read as 3 out of 8. And if 3 out of 8 is used, then 5 out of 8 remains, which is the same as 5/8. Hopefully that helps.

Oh! I was confused how you came by 5/8? But now that you have explained it. I understand. Thank you. I am very poor at Maths but very willing to learn Several years ago I did Maths at CSEC Basic, and failed it. Then I did it at CSEC General and did so poorly that it could be assessed 😢 I haven't attempted it since 2004 😢😮 Now, I am forced to do it because it's a requirement for the UWI course I am about to pursue. Thank you for your help and videos.
Apologies guys, for the glitch in the video display. I hope the content will still be helpful. Blessings and peace.

Is the UWI Maths Proficiency Test questions similar to the ones on the CSEC paper?
I am not quite sure. I've never seen the UWI Proficiency Test before.
I'm confused wouldn't y be equal to 1.60 times 2 seeing the flour is 2kg and not 1kg ?
Hey Kayra, 'y' represents the unit price. In other words, 'y' represents the cost of 1 kg of rice.
