    Hello!
The tubes I most use are series string TV tubes that were made by the million for low end plastic TV's that sold for a hundred bucks or so. These are common to the point that people are dumping them in the dumpster just to get rid of them. Some dealers have not sold a tube like that in years! Even the South American market for them has gone dry. The word million just doesn't click in most people.s head!

Create 1920's Peanut Tubes! There were an improvised tech created to cash in on the Radio Craze, born of that era

The getters are made of a very reactive metal that reacts with any air that it comes in contact with. Unfortunately, your broken tubes have been exposed to air for so long that the getters are completely reacted. Typical getter life in atmospheric pressure air is around 4 hours. After that, the metal is fully converted to oxides.

Hi, i want to thank you again for your videos, can you tell me how did you check the vacuum leak (process and technic involved) what is going to be cheapest way to do that? Thanks in Advance!

I look at the size and how intense the getter looks. If it is large and very heavy, I know that they flashed that getter to the maximum and it probably doesn't have any getter material left in the ring. I throw those tubes away. Other tubes have a flash that is small compared to the size of the getter ring and sometimes not very dense, not transparent but not the heavy silvery shine of a getter that has been over-flashed. Sometimes I select a poor getter and have a dud!

Of course! The getters are the part that comes from old tubes. But there are so many junk tubes that this is no problem. I would never destroy a collectible tube for parts unless I was rebuilding the tube for someone. All the other parts are made from new glass and tin cans!

@glasslinger Ok good because Im a collector :) anyways you said you can rebuild lamps for people? because I have a 3.5kw triode that got smashed in shipping, structurely the tube is perfect other than the top piece of glass were the heater wires are. I can pm you some pics. I love that you are make tubes. I have only made a few crude setups useing a flask and a cork, I use pencil graphite for a heater. I use a fridge compresser for the vacuum pump. keep up the good work!

Ron, make sure you use junk damper diodes that can't easily be used for hi-fi tube amps!

Is it possible to build a lamp with out destroying other lamps?

I've kept every single vacuum tube that I've broken since I was 8 years! All broken by accident of coarse followed by feelings of regret afterwards. Would the getters still be good on those?

JPa311979 in the future put them under oil or vacuum or something, it will save them.

How did you know that the getter was still viable? Color or patterns or whatnot?

ntesla66 I'm guessing it has to do with the oxide layer on it
