You can use any method. Both will give you the same results. Usually when class intervals are small like 0 - 2, 2 - 4 we should use direct method. When numbers are big like 0 - 20, 20 - 40 etc we use assumed mean method. But you can use any method you find comfortable, you will get the same answer.
