The only other thing I haven't covered. (I'm not doing 100 Super Jumps)
It actually has a mention in this game as a bit of a hint. The bestiary on Booster 2 mentions he sold a game to someone to buy the train.
Anyway. If you remember the NPCs in the game. One of them in Mushroom Kingdom (the kid at the Inn) was playing a game. If you talk to him enough times (I believe after Marrymore) he'll offer to sell you the game he's playing for 500 coins. You now have Beetle Mania. A SHUMP type mini game. Just shoot the shells and try not to get hit. The more you get hit the harder it is to recover (even with auto-fire)
