Tips for Alex:
This is the advice I have been giving my students because it is honestly very hard to keep focus and hold yourself accountable to do your work.
1. The first thing is you have to create and maintain a consistent schedule for working and doing homework, outside of online classes.
2. Make sure everyday either at the beginning or end of the day, you create a checklist for things you have completed or has to get done.
3. Try to minimize your distractions while working, this might be hard since we are at home but even if it is putting your phone on airplane mode.
4. Take small breaks in between tasks, it is a moment to regroup and reset, about 10 - 15 minutes between things. This break shouldn’t interrupt your work, it should be at the end.
5. This might be simple, but its the most important from a Professors perspective, and that is having clear communications with your teachers and peers. Make sure you reach out to them if you have questions or need clarifications, since you’re not really seeing them face-to-face.
(You can also set up study groups with your peers, it could work but it could also turn into a distraction so you have to be mindful of that)

Tip for Alex: flashcards are useless. Here is something more scientific:
When you learn something new and want to retain it, WRITE it down in your own words. Not typed, not via ipad, not text...but pen and paper. WRITE it. You’ll retain the information much clearer and longer. Flashcards only help you to memorize information short term...not to retain information long term.
This worked for me during my years at college. Once you learn and understand it in your own way, you will never forget it.
That’s how i got through my years of school straight up until university

Alex we take in information subconsciously also so it helps if your notes are written on a5 paper and pinned round your room. My daughter use this method as well as her own hand written flash cards . She's doing her Doctorate and finds it helpful. You got this bro. Keep up the good work

Study tips for Alex:
Trying take in the information in bite size, meaning you dissect the information in parts. Also don’t just read the info but also make notes. When you make notes you’re physically seeing the information in front of you so you can now visualize what the topic is saying. When you move on to something more complex and you don’t understand always go back to the basics it will make sense when you do so. Furthermore, make sure you understand the objectives of the topics so at the end of studying you can determine if objective is achieved.Last but not least make sure you pray each time you studying so God can open your mind for new information. Tami, as an adult educator I used a couple of tactics to help my learners retain information.
To help Alex with information retention:
Firstly, he needs to take 5mins break every 20-30mins from reading dry information. The break has to completely be away from the learning environment. When he returns he would then briefly recap.
Secondly, Alex needs to know his learning style whether he is a Visual, Auditory or Tactile/Kinesthetic learner. He would use his preferred style that would come naturally.
To understand what his preferred learning style is he can take a test online (I believe it's free), this will give him an advantage with any learning moving forward. Bye the way, this can help children as well.
Visual- any thing you sees 👀 could be a diagram, a demonstration, poster, picture, storyboard or whatever he reads he can draw it and it will retain. There are many more examples, look online.
Auditory: anything he hears, read out loud, a recording, a lecture. Alex can record his homework and listen to it over and over again. A discussion on what he read will also help him to retain.
Tactile/Kinesthetic- learn by doing, hands-on🙌
Writing down a recap of what he read, going through a simulation/elearning, anything physical, even playing sports basketball 🏀 etc...
Alex can change his homework into any learning style that suits him and he will retain it, I guarantee. Good Luck 🤞to Alex...if you need more info, just reach out.👍

Good suggestions. Not easy trying to do everything right all the time for your children. Thanks most of all for not critisizing, but pointing out a way that might help. As MTM have always said, you're seeing a snippet of their 24hr day, so one cannot judge or draw conclusions until they know or see the whole picture.
