Thank you for doing this video, it was a great help. I am new to trying my own head sculpts, and this is the best video I have seen so far on the subject. All the best to you.
Yes! Been looking for a smaller scaled approach to head sculpting using sculpy & now thanks to you mate have found it! So good dude! It looks bad a$$ haha. Excited to get to working on customs more comfortably now. Thanks again for making this. I will subcribe for sure! 👌
Thanks for this. I’m hoping to make custom action figures of a friend who who was killed in the line of duty for his children, and this information was really helpful. Thank you
At that scale you don't need much detail for the eyes just the general shape of the face the eyes you can just paint into a undefined low detail eye with only the suggestion of eyelids without going into serious detail and still get amazing results from the painting stages.
Great Video! Ever since I have found out about sculpting clay and the beauty that can be done with it, I had thought of creating a custom Shadow Man action figure based off of the third Shadow Man Michael Leroi. Keep up the good work.
I used to lick my painting brush then one day my profesor told me that cadmium was poisonous. Moral of the story read the label of your sculpting material.
I'm a novice sculptor who loves action figures. I do fairly well with the human body as far as proportions and realism goes, but I can't sculpt a head/face to save my life. I'd like to make heads for 6" figures with super sculpty but so far all I have so far is a shelf full of mishapped heads. Thanks, your vid was very helpful.
Hi, great video. I have a question I was hoping you could answer. When sculpting a head from scratch (or any piece really) how do you ensure it will fit onto the ball joint? I would have thought you would have to push it onto the joint when the clay is soft, but how do you get around not squashing the details? Thanks.
I can help with that. Make your basic round/ almond head shape or underlying base around ball J then split into two halves put back together and bake it. Then you can add all details and face mass onto that to re bake again. This should work for epoxy or other mediums as well.
Amazing detail,, is any way or form you can show a small products that you use, on your next video, cuz they're some products out there not even worth buying, thanks keep up the great work..
hey greg.. i;ve been watching almost all of ur videos.... and they are awesome.... i'm still a beginner sculptor and kinda confused of sculpting the head part... i download this video and watch it over and over to see how u sculpt the head part.. but i couldn't catch up with it... can u make a new video about custom head tutorial without speeding up the video?
Well if you're using sculpey it shouldn't be too bad for you, but if you're having trouble with smoothing it out, dampen a watercolor paint brush, very important that it's watercolor, and lightly brush the sculpt, but what helps it to sculpture using those latex medical gloves aswell.
Hey Greg, question: Are you able to use say a Marvel Universe Head as a base and then sculpt over it with this Super Sculpey, then pop it into the oven without the plastic melting? I know you mentioned that sometimes you just use a base figure and dremel it all leaving the eyes but can you use Super Sculpey in an oven via that scenario?
No, the oven would affect whatever plastic is left. I know some people will boil the sculpey instead of baking it in that specific case but I haven't tried it myself.
Diego Cavazos I'm not sure where you live, but local Hobby Stores should have resin kits. They have them at Hobby Lobby is you have any of those. Otherwise, online you can looks for resin used for mold making. There is rubber mold that you can buy as well to make a mold of the gun, and then use the resin to make copies. Hope that helps a little..
How did you make the concavity in the head for the neck to make snap onto the body? I'm assuming you made it before baking it? Or no? Thanks man! Big fan.
Dude, I do the same thing, don't worry about it. Well, used to, till I developed a mild allergy to Apoxie. I'm sure there's a moral of the story in here.
Is there anyone out there that would actually be willing to sculpt me or create a custom action figure for me cause I've tried it myself I wasn't successful. I would be willing to pay that person but we will discuss the price. Thank you.
Man im doing customs for 7 years by now and im not half as good as you are. You r an

Thanks guys, and yes I'm totally licking my tool (ha). Saliva helps smooth the material out at that small scale.
I used to lick my painting brush then one day my profesor told me that cadmium was poisonous. Moral of the story read the label of your sculpting material.
@Greg Sarabia Art do you do business for clients who want a head figure?

I would have thought you would have to push it onto the joint when the clay is soft, but how do you get around not squashing the details? Thanks.
You could probably fit it before you bake the Sculpy, if you're careful, but you could just dremel the socket once the Sculpy is hardened.
I can help with that. Make your basic round/ almond head shape or underlying base around ball J then split into two halves put back together and bake it. Then you can add all details and face mass onto that to re bake again. This should work for epoxy or other mediums as well.
No problem! I'm beginning to customize and I know a bit about that kinda stuff.
I needed thisa, thanks. I'm just winging everything with my projects :D

Remember this from when i was a lil boy

I have trouble smoothing sculpting clay once applying it so do you have any good tips for me i would really appreciate it.

oh wow thank you i will defiantly try this thanks man!

U can also use sewing oil, or baby oil. Even very small light amount of Vaseline. It works better

Greg Sarabia do you think i can mold a gun for a starlod action figure?
Diego Cavazos Of course; just make a mold of it and use casting resin to make a copy, or more.
Brandon Bonaudo ok thanks but i dont know where to buy resin

Kick ass like always Greg !!!!
How did you make the concavity in the head for the neck to make snap onto the body? I'm assuming you made it before baking it? Or no? Thanks man! Big fan.
My guess is he carved it out before baking, or dremeled the peg hole afterwards once the Sculpy was baked...hope that answers your question
Would you use the same type of clay if your starting from a base? And if not what kind would I use
please make a dare devil full body but as a wire body and do you have any tips for muscle definition with a wire body
Dude, I do the same thing, don't worry about it.
Well, used to, till I developed a mild allergy to Apoxie.
