Why I Returned the Pochette Metis THREE TIMES & Got a Coach Cassie

- Ya'll wanted to hear the tea, so here it is. I recently purchased and returned the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis and bought a Coach Cassie instead. Why?? I'm giving you a GRWM storytime today, very different than my typical video but it's one that has to be told. We all know about the Pochette Metis problems the bag is notorious for, but I've never heard of something like this happening. So I wanted to share my bad Louis Vuitton experience, but to be PERFECTLY CLEAR: I still really do like the brand and plan on purchasing more from them in the future. I just know now to pick less potentially problematic styles and also always inspect closely before going home.

At the LV price point it must be absolutely flawless. I would expect perfection. That is what you are paying for. Love a good Coach.
Exactly! Some part of me felt a little nuts and embarrassed to be returning so much, thinking they'll figure I'm just a pain in the neck, but seriously. It's a lot of money and they shouldn't come with problems off the bat. That already lowers resell value out the gate!

With handmade bags it’s never going to be flawless. But we have to be able to live with those flaws. I have the Pochette Métis and have had no issues. I’m lucky for sure.

It is frustrating because we pay too much for lv handbags. They should never come defected. I stopped buying them because i got two different bags that way. I started buying coach bags and i love them.

Before Mother’s Day, I ordered the Vavin in Empreinte leather. Was sooo excited to get it and lo and behold - the flap was a crooked. It was Made in USA and was very disappointed. For over $2700 ++, it should have been perfect! Am done with LV.
An oh, the refund procees takes 48 years.
I’m looking at Tory Burch Lee Radziwill bags and may get one. Great reviews online and it is a reminiscent of Hermes Kelly bag.

Yes indeed. I am so thrilled they are really going back to the classic lines. It’s what made me fall in love with them! I am looking at the Cassie and the Turnlock Clutch. Such good quality and well made pieces. With the LV also getting so impossible to find for the canvas bags, it honestly just does not seem worth it. Let’s not even get into the price increases for canvas. Sigh..

Two years late here, but IMHO, you made the right choice. I have a Coach bag and am so impressed with their quality. I thinks it’s way better than LV.
This happened to me too and watching your video made me realize I am not FREAKING alone!!! First bag I collected at Portland Store (purchased online) had a cut on the canvas piping and glazing residue. When I went back to the store, they happened to have another one which I purchased immediately. I thought I examined it closely but turned out some stitches were missing from burning??? OMG I had to return it AGAIN! Both bags were deemed defective, can you believe it??? The SA on my second return said that perhaps I am just not meant to buy this bag (in a good way) This entire experience broke my heart but I still want this bag so bad because it is so beautiful! I am still on the fence about whether to purchase it again!
I hate when this happens. I'm sooo sorry you had to go through that-- I clearly know the struggle. I gave up on the Pochette Metis entirely after buying the Cassie but I recently got a pre-loved Neverfull that I'll use in Summer (if quarantine is lifted lol!). Good luck on your search!
Hi , thank you for the review, soooo useful. Today , LV Montréal store posts on their Instagram story that the Pochette metis revers is available and we can be on a waiting list . I contacted them to ask if the Pochette metis monogram canvis is available too ? The answer was yes . I quickly jumped from my bed whent to the store and bought it to make sure that i will not miss it .
The problem is they will send me the bag by post to my place withing 3 days. I'm so so excited and happy , but after watching your review i will make sure to examinate every single inch on it .

I got my first LV bag in April as an anniversary gift from my husband & when I say I became obsessed with luxury items, I mean OBSESSED. Within a 2 month period, I formed an amazing relationship with an LV ca and she’s been able to get me all the pieces that everyone says is so hard to get. I have a speedy, a Palm Springs mini, a Neverfull, & she was even able to score me a pochette Métis for my mom which she had been searching for for almost a year. It really makes a difference when you have a good CA.

I expect a luxury bag to be pristine before it makes it to the consumer. I returned a bag recently that seems like it had already been returned based on the packaging and minor cosmetic issues. Coach packages their items super well and has nice dust bags!

My experience is very similar. That is why I told myself I wouldn’t repurchase it again. I debated on the noir but with all the known issues I decided on the Coach Cassis as well.
Yeah I ALMOST spent extra for an emprient because there are less issues with them but I'm like, no, I shouldn't have to pay MORE just to get a decent bag lol

I also thought about getting the Pochette Metis but decided to go with the Neverfull MM instead! I couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a crossbody bag that was smaller than the Neverfull and could possibly have a defect. LOVE your Coach bag! I'll have to check that one out the next time I'm in the market for a crossbody.

Thanks for sharing your experience. With your tips I was able to snatch the PM in monogram from the site after stalking it for a day and a half. I had it shipped to the LV store so if it was defective I could just return but I ended up getting lucky (which never happens lol) ! I have the PM in black empriente too and I love it. After your review of the Cassie, I'm wanting to add that to my collection too but in the smaller version in chalk (I'm in love with the gold chain) . Love luxury bags but I still love Coach so much they have great quality and price❤

thank you so much for this video! I was thinking the same thing! I was questioning why I want LV over Coach, when the quality clearly isn't even better! Also, Coach is having so many cute styles this season and it's the summer sale! I have bought the LV V tote mm twice already for defect issues. I wondered if I was being too picky. The curve ball to my experience is that the CA asked if I wanted the first return to be issued in the form of a gift card so that I would not have to wait for the refund and have 2 charges. At the time, I thought it made sense and thought it was so thoughtful of her to suggest this option to me, so I agreed to be issued a gift card aka store credit and ordered the new bag with it. The CA said she would call me when it arrived. Oh, to go back, I also had ordered the first one online, and had to, "call for availability" because it was, "sold out". So, after being on hold for over an hour, I finally got to order my bag. Later that evening, I saw it as, "available" online! I have seen this happen spontaneously since, and now I know why! Thank you for the heads up! Anyway, it arrives, and there's no plastic protection on any of the hardware, the top of the bag is uneven, parts of the bottom cave in, and I'm wondering if I got a bag that was returned? So fast forward to when the 2nd bag arrived. I got an email notifying me that my bag had arrived in store. The CA who had provided me with excellent customer service when I exchanged it did not call me like she had said she would. When I got to the store, there was a line to get in, which was expected since every time I've gone there, there has been a line since Covid happened. The CA who helped me was no longer pleasant and barely acknowledged me. The CA who retrieved my bag for me was impatient and borderline rude since it was close to closing time and they wanted everyone out. I wasn't too happy with the replacement bag, and i was even unhappier with the service! I hastily left with my bag even though it had the same issues as the first bag, but milder this time. On the way home, I realized the CA had returned my initial online purchase as a gift card! I was mortified to think that I would only be issued another gift card or store credit if I decided to return this one! I called LV customer service the next day since they were already closed that day, and DUN DUN DUN!!! They informed me that the store will most likely issue me store credit and not refund my original form of payment!!! I am going to go back to the store and try to get a refund back onto my credit card. Pls wish me luck! There's a paper trail that they even have in their system! I'm not sure if the in store CA suggested I return the 1st bag and get issued a gift card to trap my funds to their store. Anyway, now I don't want the bag at all. I was wondering if third time's a charm, but apparently not! For $3K, i can get 10 coach bags! They are great quality and lovely as well. I wish I would stop being such a label snob already! Sorry for the long rant! This all just happened, so I'm pretty worked up still. Oh, and customer service did send the store manager a message asking if I would be able to get refunded back onto my credit card, and I have not heard back from them, so that's why I am planning to go back in store. Moral of the story, do not opt for refunds in gift cards! The CA called it a gift card, but when I called customer service, they said it showed as refunded as "store credit". I feel that these are slightly different. As consumers, I wish we would collectively boycott this brand until they improve their quality and customer service! It really irks me that this brand would rather destroy retired/discontinued items rather than have sales! Especially the pieces made of leather/animal.

I have had the same experience with this bag. Every time I had it or saw it, there was something wrong with it, bad glazing (in the empreinte), crooked lock, crooked front flap, the flap not symmetrical.. All of that coupled with the knowledge that the monogram one has had so many problems and I'm off this bag altogether now. Must look into this Cassie now.

Thank you so much!! I would just recommend inspecting it thoroughly before using it. LV has a pretty good return process (as seen in this video hahah) so look closely at all the edges and sewing!
Congratulations on your new chic Coach Cassie black beauty! I also snagged a deal on a Cassie leather bag from Macy’s in Stone Blue, absolutely love this crossbody style, what a fab price. I can understand why this style would be sought after from high end designer fashion houses...they all have variations on the theme. This design is so easy to live with. I would recommend looking at the LV Vavine/ Ebene Noir as a better alternative to the Pochette Matis...I own this one, quality is way better and love it. I can not believe the struggle you went through on these dang expensive purchases, yikes pretty bad..not only the client, but the sales associates must hate facing this continuing problem!! LV had better step it up...even Chanel has it’s problems too.

I bought a reverse Palm Springs mini and 2 weeks into having it the corner color on the front pocket where rubbing off. They blamed me for it even after sending it in to be inspected. I threw a fit and got an exchange. I’ve been buying older pre-loved LV. It’s better quality! I bought a Coach Cassie with snake skin handle and I’m OBSESSED with it.
Good for you for being assertive! That is NOT normal wear and tear within 2 weeks no way. I'm glad they exchanged it for you. Is the new one okay now? Yes, my next LV is going to be vintage/preloved because I keep hearing people say that's the way to go nowadays! I am loving my coach cassie-- it's so perfect for my lifestyle!
Please do a WIMB and let us know how you're liking the Cassie! I've had my eye on the black one, just trying to do my research before committing! I'm a crossbody lover but have never had one with a flap so I'm not 100% sure I would love the style, but for some reason I'm so drawn to it!
This is my first flap bag and I'm liking it! Keeps everything secure and not a hassle at checkout which I was nervous about. Definitely will be doing a WIMB soon!
The Cassie is perfect! I'm going to stop in a Coach store the next time I'm at the mall to see if I like it in person. Such a shame about the Metis. It's a beautiful bag as well. I feel like with the most popular ones LV really started to drop the ball on quality (Neverfull, Speedy and now the Metis). I constantly hear about problems with those 3 bags in particular.
It's true. I've heard a lot of people who are only buying vintage now because of all the problems in recent releases!

You are absolutely 1000% correct that we are not supposed to be doing their QC! I bought a speedy b and sadly didn't notice some quality issue until I got home and checked the bag again. There were some stitching issues, the stitching was visibly asymmetrical and some other issues with the handle. When I pointed these issues out to the SA, she brushed it off by saying that this is because the bag was handmade. I was shocked to hear the response!! Handmade is not an excuse for quality issues. It doesn't mean it's acceptable to have asymmetrical stitching or wonky lining if a bag is handmade. The SA didn't even offer if i wanted to have the bag exchanged until I asked about it. She said that if she order another bag, and if it turns out the bag has another un-eveness (read: issues) then they'll just cancel the order and refund me. As a customer, I asked for a decent thing and that was to get a bag of high quality that reflects the price. If the next bag still comes with defects, i think I'll look for other bags. Sad as it is because I've loved speedy b for years but after this whole experience, I'll say au revoir to LV. Such a bad customer experience 😮💨.
Finally got a coach purse and wallet as a present from a friend and I absolutely adore them despite feeling horrible she spent that kind of money on me. I can see why people are obsessed with these purses. I've always looked but could never afford so really didnt care much about brands. But since getting mine yesterday I cant stop looking at them lol cant believe I actually own them. Very well made! My bag is smaller so it's a bit harder to fit the double zip wallet I have inside but I dont mind. Got a butterfly and flower wallet. And my purse is I think is the carryall bag its black. It's the perfect size for me!

Yes! And so easy to dress up or down. I travelled with it and it was just as great as a nighttime outing purse as it was touring around a new city!

I’m a massive lv fan but I recently got a coach Cassie crossbody for Valentine’s Day. I do like the look for the PM but because of all the drama and problems it have I decided to pick the Cassie instead. I’m so happy I did. I used to buy coach leather bags a long time ago. Like 10 years old and they are still amazing. I got mine in the chalk/tan color block with snake skin handle.

Totally a first world problem in terms of designer goods... BUT!! I do think it's an example of a more universal problem of expensive goods that continue to rise in price while the quality goes the other way. I feel like we see this across the board... furniture, other clothing brands, general goods!
I just found a black Matisse lv at a thrift store and was so excited! $12!! Not shockingly it turns out to be a fake, but a pretty darn good one! Watching this review, I feel I've paid the right price 🤣

I just returned my third PM today- and I’m sad an pissed both at the same time tbh! That is just not okay. Just purchased my very first LV bag a few days ago, the Pochette Metis. After I got it home I noticed two scratches on the lock, not to mention there was no plastic protective covering whatsoever. I’m taking it back tomorrow. Hopefully my 2nd Metis will be flawless.

I definitely think it can be worn year round if you have the outfits to match it!! In the spring and summer it won't be a problem... in the fall it would look cute with a navy cardigan and jeans... in the winter a white turtleneck and jeans, etc. You can definitely make it work!

Absolutely no shade, because everybody likes what they like, but personally I’ve never seen the big appeal of the monogram bags, be they LV or Gucci or whatever. I love me a beautiful colored leather bag any day! Have you looked at Dooney & Burke? I know they’re not LV status, but they make some beautiful, high quality bags. I have a D&B bucket bag that is just soft and sturdy and lovely. Anyway, have a wonderful Saturday and enjoy your gorgeous Coach!!
Totally not taking offense! For me personally, if I'm spending the LV money, I want it to be clear that it's an LV bag and I think monogram does that without being super flashy because of the neutral colors. It's a good brown that matches a lot-- but I also do have bags in the Damier print (checkered) which is a bit more understated. I've checked out D&B before yes! I wasn't a bit fan of their current crossbody selection but I've heard awesome things about them. Thanks so much VanessaLou!
I completely agree with not really loving the monogram stuff. No shade. If you love it do you. I just love a classic bag with a luxury craftsmanship. DB is not my vibe in style but a good quality bag you love is totally worth it.

As a long time LV customer I will always admire the beauty of Louis Vuitton designs. However, the quality of the bags has gone down so much over the years. In fact any newer bags I had in my collection I sold over a fear of future quality issues. The only LV bags I have left in my collection are from the 90's. The quality back in the day cannot be matched. As for Coach, I've always been a Coach fangirl. Stuart Vevers is doing an amazing job @ Coach. The entire line is gorgeous. Not to mention the quality and the price point of the handbags and accessories are amazing. I have some many Coach items on my wishlist right now. I'm looking to add another summer bag to my collection during the summer sale. Hopefully, I'll bring home a Coach Parker Tea Rose in either chalk or taupe. My next bag in the fall will be the Coach Cassie. I haven't decided on a color yet. I'm looking forward to seeing what new colors Coach is offering in the fall/winter collections. All this being said, thanks for spinning the LV tea. Your Coach Cassie is stunning. You made the right choice. Enjoy it. Be well.

I agree with you-- despite LV's price increases, their quality/quality control isn't improving or even staying the same for that matter. I definitely want to get myself a vintage everyday piece in the future. Right now, I'm wearing a 2019 neverfull made in spain and luckily haven't had any issues, but i still bought it pre-loved and saved several hundred dollars.

I wanted the pchette Métis so bad that I ended up paying way more for it on fashionphile it was listed as NEW but when I got it had water marks all over the vachetta. I ended up returning it never again will I overpay for a bag! I went back to Louis Vuitton and ended up falling in love with the pochette Métis Noir in emprente leather, I love it ❤️ I realized the monogram was a little to high maintenance for me lol your bag is cute glad you found a good one ❤️💕
I will neeeeever overpay for a bag, especially after this experience. I'll keep my "new" wishlist for when I travel and can save money on tax. I'm glad you fell in love with emprente and are having a good time with it!!
I got this same pochette metis but changed it for the reverse monogram one. I noticed small defects like scratches and glazing peeling and I was shocked and disappointed to say the least. For the price I pay I expect it to be perfection or not placed on the shelves at all.
I changed it once more and this new one is good but I feel like then inside of the leather wrinkles when the purse is closed. I don’t have the time and energy to change it again for a third time I’m done

You're 100% right. These companies are so arrogant with their prices they'd better make sure they sell perfection! At this price the bags should be printing you money while you sleep. Nothing justify what they charge. I'm after the coach Cassie but in London it's hard to get hold of.

I also coveted the LV pochette metis bit never pulled the trigger on it because I have heard the horror stories. I have the cassie and love it. you mentioned you had a coach ouet bag that didn't give you problems. would you mind showing the bag? is it still available at the outle? has the cassie made you want more from coach?
The coach outlet bag I had been using was the Coach Bennett. It's VERY similar to the LV Speedy but I didn't know that at the time I bought it-- before my LV obsession lol. They've redid the bag, mine has top handles as well as a crossbody strap but now there's no handles on the newer version. And yes!! I'll definitely be getting more from coach in the future.

Do you know Coach leather bags can be washed in the home washer at delicate cycle. They came out like new, color remain the same.
Oooh I would be nervous about the washer because mine has an agitator, but Coach stores do free cleaning and conditioning!
I absolutely understand and agree!! I had to return my first online lv purchase. I was very disappointed with how they packed the bag and it came with scratches!!! Thankfully the second try was a “bit” better, good enough for me to keep. But still the packaging was awful, unchecked and the chain straps were all over the place 🙄 Macys, Nordstrom, and the likes (even amazon and walmart) packs and cares for packages better! How annoying, at that price point, you’d expect to get pristine item packed impeccably neat!! Never again will I purchase lv online, had better experience at stores though. Glad you were happy with your coach 😊 I love coach too and no problems with online purchases and packaging 👍🏻 ❤️

About a week they came off my bank statement. Since they were all still "pending" during this fiasco the transaction just fell off, it didn't necessarily need to be "refunded" which would have taken a lot longer!
This is just crazy! So disappointing to go through all that for nothing. I don't get why this problem is STILL happening!
Exactly! Like how are these bags getting past their quality control? That is NOT my job lol. It just turned me off of the bag style and makes me second guess other over-popular styles. I feel like they just churn them out to get them sold and the quality suffers

I went through 3 Louis Vuitton PMs in reverse monogram until I found one that was all good...ended up selling it because I just couldn't get it to go with many outfits and it felt busy with the two-tone colors. Fast forward several months later and I couldn't get this bag out of my mind; checked the site in the middle of the night; the monogram PM is available to purchase; bought it, got it, made in France and it's perfect. I had the coach Cassie and just couldn't like it when I really wanted the PM and the Cassie just didn't do it for me...call me vain lol🤣 hope you are able to get a perfect PM if you ever decide to try to get one again❤️
That totally makes sense. Luckily the Cassie got the PM out of my head, and now I have a Neverfull ready for summer... much less high maintenance than PM!

I had issues with an expensive Prada satchel within 6 months but they weren't able to help me out. I was so frustrated and the resale value was horrendous. Lesson learned...I have gone back to Coach myself.
Moving forward I think I'll be buying vintage which has been proven to be much better quality!

It's all over YT, that's how I learned! You just tie a single knot, wrap it around until you have the same amount on the other side and tie it again! 😀

I have returned two items. I already own like 10 LV’s total, no issues. When I returned they tried to down play the defects. They say, ‘“remember they are hand stitched and not perfect” I said, “ the ones pictured online are perfect and mine should be perfect too” point being - DON’T LET THEM TALK YOU OUT OF THE RETURN! And don’t let them make you feel like you are being ridiculous!!!

Seriously, for the price point no one should be LV quality control person and inspect their bags to death. I had numerous issues with their quality from canvas peeling to glazing problem to clueing. I’m so tired of this brand LV. I think you pay less with other brands and get more with quality. People are paying for the name at this point and no longer the quality.
It's true. When it comes to LV I've made the decision to only buy pre-loved or vintage in the US and buy new overseas where it's cheaper and guaranteed to be made over there with *supposedly* better quality

I actually looked it up on UA-cam 😂 Basically tying in a knot on one end, then just wrapping until the end piece is the same length as the first one and tying it again!

I just started watching your channel. But I don’t get the hype with the LV bag. I like the Coach one so much more. I saw the smaller one in person and I love it so much. I may pick it up in the future. But it’s kind of like my Michael Kors Mini backpack. I have seen so many problems with the LV Palm Springs mini and I just feel like I got a better deal and better quality bag. I payed less than $80 for it after tax. It has studs on it and is all leather. I’ve had it for 4 months or so and it still looks great. I wear it a lot.
I’ll admit even though I’m obsessed with LV, it’s definitely 70% hype and 30% quality #unpopularopinion 👅 yes I buy into the hype but I can also recognize when a style is just a dud!
My hubby got me the pink cassie but I had to order the black one. I returned a LV felicie because I don’t like the way the flap sticks out when it’s closed. I find it should do that after months of wear not brand new.
I have the felicie and love it, but I only use it for nights out. Especially because of the size. The flap does stick out a bit but now I rest it face down when not in use to help re-shape it. The cassie is a much better everyday bag for all the essentials. I'm glad you love it!
Omg girl preach! I always thought that you get what you pay for and for something that costs so much it should be perfect, right? I got my very first luxury bag from LV and was disappointed to see there were little dents on the sides of the zipper. Similar to the dent you showed on the lock of the Pochette Métis. I then take a look at my other bags from MK, Coach, etc. and there are no issues with these bags. I don’t baby my bags and I never had to inspect them with a magnifying glass. Like you said, why should we be doing quality control for them? For that price, we should be getting perfect bags. I have a Palm Springs Mini on my wishlist but am really scared that I am going to get a defective bag after hearing all these horror stories. It’s insane that you have to go through that much trouble to find a perfect bag. I might have to give up on that search and go with my other choice, YSL small envelope bag, instead. Other than the key holder, have you made any other LV purchases since? Or have you completely given them up?
Since this video I purchased a Neverfull to be sort of an everyday throw-everything-in-it bag. But I got it pre-loved from Fashionphile so I saved a few hundred dollars. It ended up coming to me pretty perfect-- I even called and had them send me additional pictures before pulling the trigger. But it will probably be my last luxury purchase for a while. I actually just convinced my friend to get a YSL bag! She's happy so far!

Hi Maria, I'm sorry to add to the disappointment-- it's such a gorgeous bag but I definitely just cannot recommend it based on my headache of an experience. I'm loving my Cassie (an update is going to be posted to my channel tomorrow!!!) and am thinking of getting a Neverfull as my LV "everyday" bag for summer when I carry more!

I absolutely love my Cassie, it's such a functional and classic looking bag. I think from now on as far as LV (because I do still love it!!!) I'll be buying either pre-loved or overseas where it's cheaper in Euro! Less guilt lol!
