    Hey Danno! That would never work down here in Alabama brother. The ground CRAWLS with critters in the summer. You need something with a floor. Think DD Pathfinder mesh tent. Thanks for sharing bro! Keep it up!

      I use one too, works great

      would not work well here in Florida either, you would get carted off by everything but the skeeters then, need the floor for snake resistance as well.

    Great video Dan. I love tarps over tents as well. I take a piece of 550 as a ridge line from the tree to the ground just like your plow point and then put a prusic loop on the ridge line and attach my Nano pyramid net to it so I can adjust it if needed vs tying the net to the tree. If that makes sense. Then put my tarp over the ridge line as usual. Great stuff!!

    I backpack to flyfish in the Sierra Nevada backcountry and the mosquitoes, black flys, ants, etc... are brutal. I built my own a-frame style with a silnylon floor that I stake out and clip into a ridgeline. with my 10x10 silnylon tarp, 10 mixed aluminum/titanium stakes and my Ridgeline it weighs 1.9 pounds. great for backpacking.

    Great idea Dan!
    When I'm not using my Warbonnet Blackbird XLC hammock, I use either a mesh tent cover for cots (in a-frame and/or lean-to tarp configurations) or a DD Superlight Pathfinder Mesh Tent, as previously mentioned.
    Living in Texas where the mosquitoes are always out (the "State bird"), it is almost a requirement to have mesh!

      @@ochocobushcraft1742 definitely 👍 you could do the old ball up material to lift the part by your feet if you needed even more room

    Thanks Dan; I agree tarps are better than tents for backpacking, but oh dang those mosquitos!

    I'm not seeing how this keeps the ants you mentioned off you. This is only good for flying bugs

    Not bad for the first try. I’d uses a bug net with a base however and probably a different shape (A frame?) tarp shelter. Thanks

    Great idea! Wonder if you were to hand sew another loop on the inside back to back to the mid loop on out side, if that would make a good hang spot for net?

    • @ochocobushcraft1742
      @ochocobushcraft1742  2 роки тому

      I think it would put the net to far back for head room to sit up. Probably OK for sleeping though.

    • @Morgilson

      you could use the tarp upside down, many tarps have loops along the ridge on the outside and by using the tarp upside down u get acces to those and can still deploy the tarp in a plow point.
