Please, give it some thought. The Jays have had 5 top 10 payrolls in 25 years. Never once top 5. With 10, 10 & 9th being 3 of them. You really thought those were legitimate offers to Ohtani or Soto. This garbage we have money for "special circumstances" only. Well if you never get those guys who cares it's all just talk. Yankee's lose out of Soto, right away go and get studs at the front end and back end of the pitching rotation, while giving up mere scrapes for the latter. Jays lose out on Soto, right away they sign Yimi Garcia, and trade their second best (left handed) offensive player last season (best prospect IMO) for Varsho of the infield. Which fan base do you think is more excited about their team this morning?
Jordan Romano does not get the respect he deserves. People overestimate what an elite closer does. Even Mo blew 11% of his save opportunities…same rate as Jordan FYI
Gimenez is a far better player than Horwitz and his ceiling.. I make this move every time. He can hit decent, play some of the best defense and steal bases --guaranteed 5 WAR.
I agree..just getting in the field, he offers 1.1 more WAR than a guy like Santander. People are ignoring the price of relief pitching in this. Bass and Pop cost a top prospect. Swanson cost Teo and I'm thinking Sandlin cost Horowitz. There's no way they trade Horowitz without getting the help they actually need...RP Cleveland is in no position to ask for a Horowitz in return for taking all of Gimenez's contract.. this feels more like Jays offering salary relief and a prospect for Gimenez. (And some left over Horowitz value) Huge win for the upside.
Why would any good player want to play in Toronto? The erosion of players will continue till management changes. I have been a Jays fan since the start but this is the worst management and realize that there will not be a champion again in my lifetime.
Why trade Bo right now...? He's a great player. Build with him as a key part of the team and either make a run or move him at the deadline when his value is up.
you've spent years drafting, bringing Bo, Vladdy through the system, for what?...lol to let them go to free agency...lol this organization doesn't know what its doing and hasn't for a decade...i absolutely love the Andres Gimenez deal great deal we needed a good defensive 2b man, id rather the defense in that position then offense, but we need a 3rd baseman, a Left fielder and a right fielder cuz springer aint it...a closer...
It signals that the jays need new leadership. We need offence and this guy isn’t it. Another Varsho…… I hope I’m wrong but this is just such a useless trade.
The Jays are one of the best defensive teams past two season, but, one of the worse offensively. So the decisions was made (after spending years knee jerk trade/sign reacting to find a left handed hitter, you draft one, groom him, then re-groom him last year in a lost season to make a 2nd baseman while charging top dollar to see it happen), then trade him, your second best offensive player, to shore up the defense. YUP! Makes tons of sense.
Trading Bo Bichette is the end of this franchise for 5-6-7 yrs… injury plagued last yr.. we already have ZERO offence ..and you traded for another guy who can play elite D and has nose dived offensively over the past few yrs.. .. just like Varsho… Bo if healthy gets you .280+ avg.. 25-30 bombs.. 100 RBI’s..100 runs runs scored.. and probably comes cheaper right now than after he puts up a huge yr.. if you trade him now… it’s also at your lowest leverage point .. sign Bo Vlad ..go get Bregman… like Jeff Said.. the money is irrelevant….. this mgmt team sat on their hands .. and now we are here … they probably should have been fired … Anthopoulos would have extended Bo & Vlad long ago ..
I'm not saying JD is wrong - but lets talk about his behavioral patterns. However, with the Leafs, he will show signs of slight irritation, mostly whining like a child not getting their way, but always seems to find the silver lining. Tavs has failed as a high FA signing. Matthews, Marner, and Nylander, have become theirs and a few drafts around them, laughing stock, and the team is stuck in middle ground and can't beat the likes of Columbus in the play-offs. Many players who were so highly picked, and so little achieved. YET, JD always finds the silver lining. 57 years of not even a sniff at the finals, Jays won two WS in that time - just saying! Now, I get hockey is his favorite sport. Ill go as far to say, it's hockey for him 90% of the time and the rest of popular NA sports for the other 10% of the time. SO the behavior is - to bring the other Toronto teams down to the level of the losing Leafs, his baby. Instead of him rising to the "silver lining" concept with his other two children, he decides to rip the others down to the lower level because he doesn't love them as much as baby Leaf, and can't be accountable to the "lesser than" which is baby Leaf. JD needs to remind himself, and NEEDS everyone to agree, that its OK for the Leafs to lose because another T.O teams are losing more. Truth is, children act this way.
