Aww :) he looks so cute with locks. I've been wanting to dread my hair but I'm still not sure. So glad I found a video that showed a simple way to make them. Thank you so much!!!
Hey this video really helped me alot. Me and my boyfriend are wanting dreads and i wanna thank u guys for helping us out.. Im psyched about gettin it done!
becca you are the most nice nd and cutest person i have ever seen.even though my hair is only 3 inches long or so by the end of this year i plan to go 2 ur salon to get my hair dreaded by you.you are the only person that i see that knows what there doing.well take care nd keep doing what you do because u really do it well
they are easy to comb out the younger they are, but you can ALWAYS uncomb them (using lots of conditioner beforehand) no matter how mature/old they are. It just takes a lot of time the older they become.
i loved having dreads. thanks so much guys for the great products u make. i had to get rid of them because of interviews i'll be doing soon, but i'll def have them again in not the too distant future. maybe nxt year hopefully. for anyone who's thinking about dreads, you have to be serious about doing this nd devote quite a bit of time in the begining. still can't get used to not having them. it hurts like hell too so wen u do them especially around temples nd neck, large sections like this guy
Video definetly helps with explanation and motivation towards getting my own little knotty friends. :) I am excited...I just have to wait for the hair length.
Thanks Becca...I watched this many times before and during the process of doing my own dreads and you where sooooo helpful..........cheers from Dreadfully Happy :)))))))
I had to remove dreads once. Dreads are like trama tangles. When the hair spontaneously knots us after a traumatic event. We keep a jar of pickles in the salon for this reason. Put the juice in a spray bottle and spray on the tangle and comb, starting at the ends. Really works!
first of all, i want to say fantastic video. it helps alot. i'm planing on getting dreadlocks, but i have very fine, thin hair. and i wasa just wondering how you would go about placeing the dreads, and how think you would recomend. -thank you
Backcombing will make the hair about half the original length. So say your hair is 6inches. After backcoming, it will be around 3-4 inches long. You can use the twist and rip method and not lose as much length. To rid and prevent lumps in the dreads simply just palm roll, and if you feel necessary, you can use a crochet hook to pull in loose hairs which will also help straighten them out.
Been saving my hair for almost 2 years. and i think ill save for another year before im gonna start making ma dreadz. hope they will be awsome like these :)
@REY4262 It's a normal part of having dreadlocks in the beginning and eventually they smooth out, especially if you take good care maintaining your locks by palm rolling regularly. There are also products available that help.
His hair is really good for this. I've been unsuccessful so far in getting my hair to respond to backcombing at all. I haven't tried wax. question: If you wash your hair daily, how often should you apply wax.
@screamingandbutter Great question, but due to the overwhelming feedback we get here, if you have any questions about your hair, our products or Lock Shop, please check those pages on our site. There's also a store locator you can use to find local retailers of our products. Still no luck? Shoot your Qs over to the email on our contact page. Thanks!
are dreads supposed to look like that? they seem really loose. i just watched a video before this at knotty boy and the dreads were much tighter and they back combed and then they used a crochet hook.
Hey Fancy Nancy, all dreads are different. This procedure isn't exactly what a pro would do, it's an easier method for people to lock themselves or their friends up. At our Concept Salon, The Dreadquarters, they lock up with a crochet hook - it's a much tighter lock (and takes a lot longer to learn and do). Also, hilarious screenname :)
Hey, Knottyboy crew. Excellent video. Just wondering...what's the size of the dreadlocks you guys did? I plan on getting locks soon and I liked the size of his locks
@xStarsRupHighx You could use our Emergency Dreadlock Removal Kit, which is an intense clarifying shampoo and ultra-deep conditioner. It would require you to spend hours picking your dreadlocks apart with a comb eventually resulting in free-flowing hair again.
So that's what happened to Angry Kid!!! :P Great vid! Been wearing synthetic dreads for a while to try out what it's like and I now deffinately want to lock my own hair up (i'm a girl btw) This is the best vid on youtube by far!!! Thank you x
I used this method when I first did my dreads, year ago, its fine when your first doing it. But, after the hair grows out and wax starts to fade away, I found you need to learn the crochet method, if you use the wax method first. Crocheting brings your dreads together nicely, and if your like me, and like having together neat, without 'bubbles' or a like. just a little fyi
In January KnottyBoy dot com will be launching the How to Dye Nappy Instructional Tool Kit for Successfully Colouring Dreadlocks, along with the famous Manic Panic vegetable-based hair dyes. Stay tuned!
This video has been a really big help to me! My bestfriend/cousin,who is a guy really wants me to form some dreads on his KINDOF long hair! he's been begging me ALL week so I'm gonna give it a try! It will be the first time for me...So I hope it works! *fingers crossed* Does the wax cost alot? Thanks again for all your help! xxxxxxx
I've heard it takes like 6 or more hours, depending on the length of your hair and also if you're doing it by yourself or if someone else is doing it for you.
@norkaMURDER Hi there, the prices are not yet up on our site. All appointments require a FREE consultation first, where the stylist could look at your hair and give you a personalized quote. On average we charge $300 for the first 6 hours and $50 for every additional hour.
@SteezeWithEaze Hi there, we'd love to help but because your question is not totally straightforward, youtube can be pretty hectic to keep up a conversation through. Please check out our website and if you are still unable to find the answers you seek, feel free to send your Qs to the Contact Us email. Thanks for watching!
yea they get limper as you progress. the wx keeps them solid and stops them bending as much. after a few weeks/months when they're mature and the wax is out they'l flop around much more
Hi there, Good question! Apologies for the obviously copied and pasted reply as we just don't have time to answer all the questions that come through our UA-cam channel. Thanks for checking out the vids! : ) Knotty Boy
A year ago, I saw this video, and I had the choice of doing it myself, or going to a hair salon. I chose the salon. The lady did them terribly, she didn't palm roll, wax, or even backcomb, which is the most important part. She just curled them into the shape of dreads, and expected them to lock up. Which, they did eventually, but they sucked. So I had to cut them. I'm doing them again myself in 1 month!

That guy looked like Newton Faulkner when it was finished! I'm considering dreads since my hair is naturally curly even now at near shoulder length. I'm just not sure whether it'd suit me and I really don't want to cut my hair short again if it doesn't

Yes, your hair is perfect for locks - but the great thing is using the Knotty Boy locking method described in the vid, combined with the KB products, dreadlocks form in ANY hair type. Check out the website for more detailed FAQs about it all! :)
I'm totally interested in dreading my hair, but although I'm hyped about the notion, I've always had a notoriously thin head of hair. With that in mind, I'm stuck wondering if it's such a smart move. Any advice?
@seccyp they usually start to fully lock on their own within a few months and fully mature within 6 months to a year. But everybody's a bit different :) Thanks for watching!
wow, he looks SO much better with dreadlocks
haha this video is so 2000's..love it!
It's from 2007 xD
That hair should have its own UA-cam channel
He actually pulls those off really well.
Aww :) he looks so cute with locks. I've been wanting to dread my hair but I'm still not sure. So glad I found a video that showed a simple way to make them. Thank you so much!!!

This stylist did a great job with commentary.

@joakimspotify No, dreadlocks can be worn by young kids or by much elderly folks and anyone in between. Age is only a number ;)
I'm so fascinated by dreads.
Thanks for this info.
I have Never seen this Technique.
I have been Enjoying your Videos.

I've been debating on getting them myself. But I need to do some serious hair-growing first haha.
Wow. Thanks for making these videos. Really great.
what a cute dreadmistress. good work : )
@godslilgamer Locks do fatten up a bit, but not dramatically. Start them about the size you want them to be.
I can't wait to get them. My hair isn't long enough yet though!
Yes, and there are a lot of resources on the web for dreading extensions.
xExcellent tips. Now when I try this on my friends, it'll actually work.
THanks for posting :)
this is so early 2000s love IT😆😍
Love this. Dreads look kick ass.

thats why she said to keep waxing the roots and backcombing and palm rolling them, so hopefully they'll start becoming a part of your existing dreads
So that's what happened to Angry Kid!!! :P

Do you know of any good salons to get locks in the Indianapolis area?
Looks good, im trying it this way over the summer
