Hello! I'm currently in the process of getting a PO box actually. You can do either address, but I would recommend a PO box for safety reasons. As for the DBA, you can use the SSN if you're a sole proprietor. But I've heard it's recommended to get an EIN if you ever want to hire people or grow your business.
Yes, Pirate Ship is free! And you can make it to where the customer pays for shipping so you're not paying out of pocket when it's time to ship. For instance, I charge $4 when shipping a small flat mailer within the US. Depending on where in the US, it will cost almost $4 for First Class shipping (the cheapest option), and the rest of the 30 cents just goes towards the cost of packaging. Of course you can charge the customer a little more if you feel the packaging you use is more expensive. I hope this helps!

Hi! I’m so glad you found it helpful! As for sales tax, Big Cartel does charge the customer and remits the sales tax for you! If you sell through a website that doesn’t do it for you, you are responsible for collecting it yourself and then remitting it to the state.
