    Hey thanks for doing this video Britt. Very informative and helpful as always. I even learned a few things like what the GRE scores are about. Wow Ross goes all year round interesting but if I wanted to be a vet, hmmm I would need a break too because I would burn out. I know prospective students would be happy with this video. Keep up the great work!

    How much calculus do you use in vet school? I'm taking Calculus now and I am not getting it but am passing (probably with an A), because I can answer the questions, I just don't really understand it. I'm wondering if I should just be happy and keep moving or if I'm going to see Calculus again in vet school and regret not seeking extra help??

    hiii im a high school student and ive been watching your vids and they give me motivation as i really wanna become a vet . and uhh i have a question , so after high school im supposed to go to college first for 4 years then attend vet school for another 4 years for DVM ?? I went to a few websites including St George's University's website and it has a 7 year program for after high school students which is prevet 1 then another 2 years of prevet followed by 3 years of veterinary medicine and a year of clinical sciences . Im confused between these 2 options,, if i choose their 7 year program do i need to go to vet school too or is it included? thanks ❤️

      Hi! I'm so glad they're helpful. So for the US school system you did 4 years of college/undergrad then 4 years of vet school. However, yes. SGU does have a 7 year program. It's 3 years of prevet and then 4 years of vet school so its all included as one program.

    Thank you so much for making this video I really appreciate it- I was focusing on looking to take a vet tech program but now im interested in going to school to get a bachelor's and take prequisites for vet school (high school senior now). I'm wondering how I would get hands on experience working with animals during those four years. I really want to understand how it would work, would I really have to wait until vet school depending on the college to get hands on experience? Thank you again, I love your content def Subscribing to your channel!

      Of course and no not at all! If you have no animal experience, I'd recommend starting either somewhere like a shelter or dog boarding facility to get basic animal behavior/interaction down or looking for a clinic that would take you on as an assistant/kennel tech and work you up. Many clinics will bring people on knowing they want to go to vet school eventually, however many clinics are becoming corporate owned so I'm not sure on the flexibility nowadays. Regardless, there are DEF opportunities out there. I'd recommend working weekends/holidays or if your schedule permitted, maybe 1/2 days throughout the year on certain days. Even getting large animal, equine, zoo experience, etc is great if those opportunities are around you. I also don't mind if you reach out to me on Instagram! I could give you my email and give you more pointers/help along the way

    So do vet schools pay any attention to what school you took your prerequisites? I’m thinking of going to a community college and leave my university.

    Hi I am a senior in high school and am going to be going to school for pre vet, do you have any suggestions for hands on like specific programs? I currently do hands on at a barn dealing with horses and such, but anything else ?

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  4 роки тому +3

      I suggest to get as much experience in different areas. You don't have to rush now because you have 3 years before you have to apply, but definitely try to get some clinical experience if you can (with dogs and cats) and any kind of work under a veterinarian whether in a vet clinic, equine vet, lab, research, etc

      Hi Mia,
      there are a few programs out there at various schools as well as some that are offered abroad. I personally was apart of the UC Davis summer enrichment program and it was 6 of the most amazing weeks. However it was convenient for me since I was transferring to UC Davis to finish my undergrad degree and its in-state for me. I would definitely recommend if you think you can find the funds to support yourself for those few weeks (they give you a stipend but not until the program is over). If you are interested in research or become interested however look on NSF's website for REU where they fund undergraduate research over the summer. Definitely try to get some clinical hours like Brittney mentioned though at a local clinic and keep in touch with all the vets that you will meet along the way. Best of luck to you Mia. You'll do great things.

      You should document the process to pre vet and show some of the work at the barn

    Very helpful video! I’m a sophomore in undergrad and am taking a semester off because I decided over winter break to transfer from strictly pharmacy program school to a less expensive school with hopes to go to vet school after. I am trying to get a job with animal/veterinary experience, any advice? I’ve been waiting for an email/call back for five different applications. I could just start the process of volunteering and shadowing and get another job (nannying is my backup).

      Hi! That's great! I recommend just applying as many places as possible. You still have alot of time to get some experience. You could apply to vet clinics as a kennel technician and hopefully work your way up to a vet tech. Or similarly work at a dog daycare facility to just get animal experience before applying as an actual tech. Or just apply as a volunteer and then later to actually get paid.It's harder to get a job with no experience, but once you get good connectons and a little experience, usually its a domino effect from there. Feel free to message me on IG or facebook with any other questions!

    I know I am late seeing this but I need to gather content for my 16 yr old daughter who is now a senior and wants to go to school to become a vet. I know she needs to get her undergrad degree prior and then look for a school. anyone can give me a little advice about what majors would be helpful

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  3 роки тому

      Any undergrad major is okay as long as she gets her pre-reqs done, but biology, biological sciences, animal sciences, wildlife sciences, microbiology, chemistry, and/or environmental sciences would likely prepare her the best! You can message me on Facebook if she needs any other recommendations

    I don’t wanna sound dumb, but what is a GRE score?

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  3 роки тому +1

      The GRE is the Graduate Record Exam. It's a test you take (at least in the US) after undergrad but before many grad level programs (usually Master's and such), but vet school requires them. HOWEVER many schools are not requiring this anymore or its optional. There's also a new test called the CASPer exam, but I didn't have to take this one

    Hi! I saw under research u can put lab work, can I put labs I was in like animal nutrition , and animal science lab?

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  3 роки тому +1

      So research and labs is like labratory medicine (like rats, rabbits, even dogs...) that kind of labs. Not for individual classes. But you can potentially put it under animal experience if you had ALOT of class labs
