I have the Tendak hub and have run into an issue when I plug both an audio interface and USB microphone in the same hub in that the interface seems to override the mic and the mic's audio won't always be heard on my recorded video. So, would the best remedy be to use a separate hub for the mic? Thanks 🤔

Hi Pete, good video, Soooo... i have an older 5th gen Ipad, (lightning port) I just ordered one of these hubs because I just purchased my first interface, the Audient EVO 4 interface (based on Patricks review of it) and was disappointed to find out that it can't be powered via the genuine Apple lightning to usb 3 adapter, so now I need one of these too (ugh, this is exactly why I resisted DAWs for so long) anyway, based on your Ipad videos, I think I'm gonna upgrade real soon to an Ipad Air 11", 512 M2 model. My interface can be powered via the USB C from that model Ipad (C to C), but how do I keep power to the Ipad while using the interface? Can this hub help with that? I think I'm overwhelmed from all the research on options right now and can't seem to wrap my head around it at the moment. Thanks for all you do!

I recently bought the usb microphone Samson C01U Pro ,(it hasn’t arrived yet) for working on my iPad. And I’m also looking for a usb hub to connect not only the mic but a mouse, keyboard and a usb flash drive. My question is: do I need specifically a powered usb hub ? Or with a normal usb hub it will be ok ?. Thank you so much !

    • @PeteJohnsMusic

Hey there. You will need a powered one like this to provide enough energy to power everything while connected, otherwise you'll be constantly battling "this device uses too much power" issues. Question: I need a powered USB hub like this but I also need to monitor the audio output. I saw your other video about the USB sound hub and thought that was the winner and then I realized it wasn’t powered. Hey there my friend. I’m wondering if you can perhaps daisy chain the two hubs together and thereby power the other hub’s ports and get the sound card as well? 🤔

Cheers mate. Yes, you can with this one as it has a dedicated power only port on the top. Don’t use any of the data ports or a gun that doesn’t have this or you could create a loop that may cause problems. If you have a hub without a power only port, use a separate battery or power outlet to power it up.

Hey Sergio. So the Tendak hub has 4 days ports on top and a “power only” in the front. Powering the ipad through a data port can cause issues with feedback loops so you always want to power via a powered only port. ua-cam.com/video/Sc-_LiuqiRA/v-deo.html

Critique: The review was good. Further, it's not great if it only includes PROs and forgets about the CONs. I've found a few CONs and it should be mentioned. One, the unit has "blinking capability". When I plugged in a USB "Pocket Juice" which allows me to bring the portable charger out in the field for charging power., the unit's other plugged in unit "blinks". So, I'm assuming it gathers too much power to charge the unit and the other 3 USB devices which are plugged into the Atolla 7-port start blinking. It blinks until I disconnect the Pocket Juice. Obviously not every device charges well. I received a Windows Explorer error: "power surge on the USB (unknown device needs more power than the port can supply error"). The juicer turns red hot to the touch trying/plugging in the charger. The computer continued to give me warning about the power surge.

DO NOT BUY THIS HUB.... Read my story......
I bought two and they are garbage. I plugged mine into the USB 3.0 port on the back of my computer and turned on all the switches. I plugged in a Western Digital 500GB Blue 3Dnand drive into one of the ports and copied some files from my computer to the WD drive. I got a transfer speed of 200+ MB/s. Then I plugged it into the next port and got a transfer speed of 1.1MB/s. Yup... I kid you not... 1.1
Then I plugged into the next port and the next port and got 1.1MB/s again. SO that's THREE ports of 1.1MB/s and one port of 200MB/s. The port closest to the cable connections is the one that gave me the 200MB/s.
I contacted the seller who said he would send me a new one free of charge. I offered to send the original two back but he said it wasn't worth it. So when I got the new one, I made the same tests and got the EXACT same results. High speed on the first port near the connectors and 1.1MB/s on the other three ports. So... I plugged it into another USB port and get the same results. Then I plugged it into another computer and got the same results. Then I switched out the WD 3Dnand for a HP 240GB and got the same results. Now, the speeds on the HP were a bit slower than the WD because it wasn't a 3Dnand drive but the overall result was the same. At that point, I just threw all three of them away.
I swear on a stack of bibles with my hand in the air... this is a true story.
