I usually use white, black, beige and gray. If I'm making something special, I'll match to the fabric, if it's a light color and I'm doing a rolled hem. I usually buy serger thread when it's on sale. Love your videos! 😊👍
I like to use gray thread it goes with everything too. I’ve seen a ton of knitted shirts in the stores this season. So cool that your patterns are on trend
Thanks for the tutorial. Although I found the instructions straightforward and easy to understand, I still enjoy seeing a video, showing the process :) Also, I LOVE the top you're wearing in the video. It's gorgeous!
What a great tutorial. I have been looking for a way to alter a top that is too wide and this will be perfect. You do a good job of instructing!!!! Thanks
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I was looking at the instructions of the patterns but I was still unsure how to do the knot. Now I think I will try to make one. As for the serger I normally use white thread for very light fabrics, black for very dark and grey for most other colours. Sometimes I change the left needle thread to a matching thread that I use for the regular machine. I also have dark blue and pink serger thread, cause my daughter loves pink so I end up sewing quite a lot of pink garments. 😂
Diana, can you please tell me on the long sleeves if you had to add length to the sleeves to make it long enough or does the shoulder fall over the shoulders to where the sleeves will be the right length. Hope I’m making since , thank you for your help. Tammy
How do you find a pattern that fits you????? I've bought so many patterns to find out they are too small or large expecially in the shoulders!! What brand do you use??
Thank you for the turtial, I use white the most and sometimes the color matching the fabric. I'm now making the top with arms and cawl......hope to show it asap ;-)
Susan Kroeger 0 seconds ago Hi Diana - I noticed you gather the bottom edges on the adult twist it up top but you do not gather the bottom edges on the kids twist it up top. Just wondering if I can make the adult top the same way or is there a reason to gather the adult top but not the child's top. Thanks a bunch! Love the videos!
it might be because there is less fabric to have to gather. The look might be a little different but I think it will work just the same. I have done it by just hand gathering and it works ❤️
You asked about what color serger thread... Neutral colors and I do NOT change with each project Partly laziness...truthfully I don't think about it. :)
@@EllieandMacPatternsLLC Thank you for letting me know. I'm looking for the long sleeved pattern top that has the thumb hole in the sleeve, can you tell me which pattern that is please? Thanks so much
Gosh you move quick! I'm like ok, this part's done (slowly). Now to check my Facebook, and have something to eat before the next step! lol. Hours later, I might have something that resembles a finished product. lol
I have watched the video several times and I am still unsuccessful in hiding the knot. I can make the knot, twist and sew together but where on earth can the knot be hidden? Both the knot and the raw edges left of the hole keep being exposed. I have ripped out and resewn numerous times.
Thanks for the video, The video made it much more understandable. I use black, white, and gray.

Sandirae Peters thank you!! It’s the Lucky Girl pattern! Such a cute sew!
Hey there
What pattern has the sleeves from the one you’re wearing? It is so cute I must have one!

You make everything look so easy. Thank you for this video. I do not know my left and right hand either!!!
Thank you for the video, it was a great help. Just wondering can you cut the cowl on the fold so you only have one seam?

Do you hem this knotted hem? Thanks for great videos. I watch them before purchasing.
I'm going to make this top tomorrow! So excited!

Thanks for the video. I still am having issues getting knot correct. How much of a seam do you make when sewing knots together? Thanks
This is a much easier method than the twisted top pattern I got from a big four company! Wish I had seen this first.
I’m so glad it’s easier! 😘😘
Love, love the blouse....What pattern is it
Thanks Diana great as always. X

I use white, natural, tan and black threads in my serger. Depends on the project.

You always look gorgeous.
Love your tuts!
What pattern did you use to make your top you wear? I love those tie sleeves
Nino Bregvadze it’s the lucky girl Top pattern. It’s such a great top!
Yes!! The lucky girl pattern! It’s AMAZING!
I use light grey in my needles and tie dye in the loopers...unless it’s a light color.
Michelle Balmert tie dye sounds awesome!!!
Hi I am a subscriber and a huge fan.
Diana, do you not hem the bottom of the top or do you leave it, I didn’t see where you hemmed the bottom of the top. Thank you
I mention hemming at 13:25. I didn't show that step on the video but did mention do it ❤️

Hi just watched your video for the twist up top. Can you tell me is the Patten still available. I can't find it on the web site. Thank you
I searched the website and found it here. Hope it helps. www.ellieandmac.com/collections/adult-tops/products/twist-it-up-top-pattern
How do I mark and cut out the scalloped front?
Hi love it where can I get a pattern please
www.ellieandmac.com/products/twist-it-up-top-pattern?_pos=1&_sid=2c93e49bd&_ss=r
do you have a template for the knot cut-out area?
Where did you get the fabric for the shirt you wearing?
I think I might make this just for me :)
Gosh you move quick! I'm like ok, this part's done (slowly). Now to check my Facebook, and have something to eat before the next step! lol. Hours later, I might have something that resembles a finished product. lol
ebunz z only while I’m on camera haha usually I take many breaks... phone or food breaks haha
Can you do this with a ready-made shirt?
oh yes, as long as you have enough room for the knot.
Can this be sewn without the knot & if so please explain how! Thx
Yes, you just cut the straight line for the front instead of cutting out the curved area.
I fit color for each projet i’m freak!
Also I love your sewing chair! Where is it from?
Michelle Balmert thanks!! This chair actually came from Sam’sClub.

I’m making a regular top, no sleeves, you said don’t sew them up, I’m not sure what you mean. This is my first garment in over thirty years.
