The thing is, I'm 16 but I still love this song shamelessly. Because I am God's child and never had a proper childhood or bond with my parents and I still have that part of me that wants to be a little girl... "A world far off where we only cry from joy" :') don't we all want that?
I sang this to a little girl I babysit when she got hurt, she stopped crying almost immediately! She asks me to sing this almost every time I see her now :) what a sweetheart!
This Song Is The Saddest- Yet The Most Hopeful I've Heard In Forever. I Think Its Talking About This Little Girl, Who's Parents fight A lot. Since it go's "No-one Cries, Screams, or shouts." And She's basically creating herself a world where her life is better. Over All I Love It Though.
My brother told me that when he was a teenager this was one of his favorite songs and it reminded him of me. He's 9 years older than me and our mom was abusive, I was just a little kid and I didn't have to really deal with our mom but he was the oldest so he got it the hardest and she took everything out on him. But I was pure, she hadn't ruined me yet.
Lacey wrote this for her younger sister. Just to correct all of the people trying to guess the inspiration behind the song. Beautiful song nonetheless. Great job on the lyrics.
It's actually "You didn't come this far just to be plundered here/*Towers of refuge*, your strength/Sleep in..." This song is beautiful. Even though it's to a girl, it definitely can apply to a boy. The female parts would just have to be changed (like princess, dress, etc.). The middle part really speaks to me since I've never been told any of those things. "You're so much more than you know/Heart of the purest gold."
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. Matthew 6:19 "You build your castles in the sky."
I like the part where she says, "You didn't come this far just to be plundered here, your tower of refuge, your strength. Sleep in this haven the king (Jesus) holds your favor with love much greater than you dream." It gives me strenght. (the video has it wrong.) So I believe I am a princess now too, because "To those who overcome, they will share the throne." It's Jesus asking her to set apart her dream of heaven. The bride of Christ, clothed in white.
I want this played at my funeral even if I die old. Because, as weird as this sounds, it reminds me of when I was little and when I wished I was a princess and all of that kind of stuff little girls do. It's so innocent. Oddly enough, this song makes me happy. :)
it seems every lyric that is sung is words that my mother at one point has said to me, and I feel as if its my mothger talking to me through this song. How I wsh she was still here..I miss my mom so much
Ever sense i first heard this song it made me think of a little girl dieing but going to heaven because children are innocent and god accepts them even if they have sinned. My heart is always with ya'll. God bless.
Well I think because of all the shallow thinking people that's why this one is less popular. But wow, this song was so well thought out and the lyrics are powerful! I get choked up and I think of someone special who this song reminds me of.
I love the part where she says "stars reflecting off your eyes" to me its like she saying have hope in ur life and u can be beautiful and don't let people judge u let urself be the judge of u not anybody else.
I believe its about a very religious and pure young girl, like in les miserables when cosette talks about a castle in the sky , look it up , its almost exactly the same . Young Cosette: There is a castle on a cloud, I like to go there in my sleep, Aren't any floors for me to sweep, Not in my castle on a cloud. There is a room that's full of toys, There are a hundred boy and girls, Nobody shouts or talks too loud, Not in my castle on a cloud. There is a lady all in white, Holds me and sings a lullaby, She's nice to see and she's soft to touch, She says "Cosette, I love you very much." I know a place where no one's lost, I know a place where no one cries, Crying at all is not allowed. Not in my castle on a cloud. Read more: Les Miserables - Castle On A Cloud Lyrics | MetroLyrics
the bible always talks about being kings and children of God and i love that this song switches the tables and for those of you who don't know this is a christian band
Not that I mean as 'just' that, he's also a friend, comforter, healer, lover of our soul etc etc and everyone can have a relationship with Him..as our Father :)
Lacey, You truly are amazing. You have the gorgeous voice of an angel and every time I hear it, it gives me goosebumps. This song was so beautiful, it made me cry. If I had one wish, I wish I could let everyone in the world hear your incredible songs. Please keep singing for us. Sincerely, your fans.
I get a soothing like never before in my life the fact my lil sis loved lacey and the band what sounds they made hit ppl in many diff ways this song to lacey maybe about her sis past but this is my sis life since she is gone and I think when she left she was asking about her dream where she was the princess I watched grow while I would hide them from the fights and arguments are parents had after they was safe I went to do as one big bro and good son should stop his dad from hurting his mom my sis was mine to protect and when she needed me I was told to kneel and listen as my mom read what my lil sis had to write after a man almost beat her to death I made a promise I will stand down as long as you stand up with our bond I knew she would no matter 15% of living doc was saying and she made it through it when she could speak again she said see told you stand down cause your old testament bro eye for eye all that you wouldv e been the one we lost to bars a joke from lil sis now after all that she was done and left this world the biggest thing her and lacey shared I'm glad my lil sis is in her cloud castle now and one day the guard will be there at your gate when time comes love you lil one
You didn't come this far Just to be plundered Here down, Your breath is your strength Sleep in this haven The king holds your favour With love much greater than you dream
I've been trying to figure this out too. I don't think it's a different song. It fades out at the end, so I assumed it was a different song, but the lyrics make sense with the lyrics throughout this song, and I couldn't find another song anywhere with those lyrics.
things that will upset god a lot and i regret dearly and oh i wish i could go back in time and never done even now i try to think i do have a chance in heaven but i know i do not anymore
The Meaning to this song is even if you aren't born in riches, every girl/boy is a princess/prince as we are his children , cause of our salvation here on earth we will be crowned above and though we might feel dirty and worn out from the outside, to God we are shinning ever pure and white as snow ..In Short whatever circumstances we are been put through, just know that the reward of a blessed heart is beyond imagination .. stay blessed
Who says I'm atheist? I came here to listen to a song by one of my favorite bands. I ended up pointing out that most comments of most Flyleaf videos are about Christianity, even when the songs don't have much to do with it. Agreed, this one is pretty Jesusy. But some people don't think of it that way. It might just be about a girl doing what ever the hell she's doing. I mean, people interpret music based on themselves. Odds are, mainly Christians would pick up on the Christian-ness in a song.
This gives support to women, but I wonder why this kind of support is supposedly not needed for guys, like they're strong enough, they don't need emotional support like this.. And then we always assume the girl IS weak and needs this help... Wrong assumptions, I wish we could all accept the fact that we ALL need help sooner or later like this song displays.. I don't know why I ranted; don't hurt me ;-;
It's been a while since I had the booklet that goes with this CD, but in it are journal entries that detail the meanings behind each song. A lot of songs off this abum (Memento Mori) have either a biblical feel/reference (Chasm, Swept Away, In the Dark, Circle) or are referencing Lacey herself (this song possibly or someone close to her, Treasure). A lot of Flyleaf's other songs are gender-neutral and I can think of one song specifically (Supernatural) that is directed at guys as well. I don't think they're only trying to support girls, and of course it does depend on your own beliefs (I tend to interpret a lot of their songs as religious because of certain references used) but I believe this is more talking about how Heaven is this wondrous place, more than the actual girl in the song. I do agree that in a lot of media and music women are portrayed as needing more help than guys when thats not true, but I dont think thats the case here. :) Just my two cents, I love discussing this stuff.
Quox I believe this song is actually an open commentary she had to a young girl in her family. I'm not quite positive, but I know her character doesn't entail giving support to women above men.
It's never to late to go to heaven. If you repent and live the rest of your life loving the Lord you will always have free passage to heaven. Sorry if I got a little to religious there for comfort, but that is just what I believe.
this song really reminds me of my little sister cuz she's little and so she is still an angel sent from god to us and i know i have done terrible things and i regret them and its too late for me to go to heaven but its not late for her :,) cuz to me she is a beautiful, heart of gold princess =)
I love you lacey you always make me feel better and I feel like if im on top f the world you make me cry of joy hank you lacey I wish I can talk to her :(
This song has always been so soothing and uplifting to me, I think it was the first thing that made me think I might be trans. Definitely my favorite song Flyleaf song.
This has to be one of the most beautiful rock songs I have ever heard. I could listen to it all day.
Agreed :)
Same

Do you still like this song
@@levistan501 yes. In fact more so now I’m older. I’m 24 now. Time flies.
I sang this to a little girl I babysit when she got hurt, she stopped crying almost immediately! She asks me to sing this almost every time I see her now :) what a sweetheart!
When I have a daughter, I'm gonna sing this to her as a lullaby. It's awesome :)
All those lyrics become much more alive when you've been a christian for a longer time. So beautiful.
Don't got to be a Christian to enjoy the song though. XD
I'm a christian and that song has so many meanings....
+Joleen Rodriguez nobody said you did. that would be absurd.
this person was speaking for herself...

Lacy is so awesome all her songs mean something and she has such a great voice. so original.

dedicated this song to my new born baby girl

i like that little last part
its kinda cool
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. Matthew 6:19
"You build your castles in the sky."
Sky probably meaning to build your treasures in Heaven :) otherwise she probably would have just said to build castles.
Of course. She is very Christian.

idk how they did it but the last ~20 seconds sound like the memory of a dream
This song reminds me of Castle on a Cloud from Les Miserables
RIGHT!!
I like the depth and meaningfulness their songs have.
I love Flyleaf! The music heals me every time I listen to it
i listened to Memento Mori A billion times and still love it
this song makes me feel about love, a thorn , a river, and a single tear unfold the world. You never know what comes next
I believe its about a very religious and pure young girl, like in les miserables when cosette talks about a castle in the sky , look it up , its almost exactly the same .
