- The game giveth, and the game take the away. After a 4-0 win with loads of positives, Villa were just as comfortably dismantled by a very in-form Newcastle. As the Unai Emery era officially begins, Pete the Canadian Villa Fanatic dissects the loss (without going too deep) while looking ahead to the first of two games with the Red Devils starting Saturday at home. Left my house at 6.3AM, got home at 11.30PM, 700 mile round trip to see the usual hammering at Newcastle. Hopefully Emery can start to turn things around. He is an elite manager, so given time and finances things should start to get better.

Hey my man, I have watched Unai Emery train our boys at B6 and the first thing l noticed as a coach myself is this, he pulled our players up when going through the training motions and one on one reajusted there balance and technique with the ball.
There alone turns a team of misfits into a champion winning team ... UTMV🦁👍

Due to constantly having my expectations quashed, I’m not going to believe anything will change in the next 3 games as it’s too little time for Emery to make any kind of impact, it’s after the international break where I see the Emery effect taking hold!. I would personally like to see a solid unchanged set up in the league game and then maybe use the cup game to experiment as league survival trumps possible silverware for me Pete, UTV 🦁
Let me help, don’t get your hopes up, wait until 2 season if Emery managed to survive, but it still would be mid tear team at best, there is a reason why Emery is available. He literally got hired by Arsenal 2018 with MUCH BETTER list of players, and FIRED on NOVEMBER 2019. Gerrard didn’t even have an entire season. No clubs for the past 30 years has sacked their managers and actually made a sudden change, for Villa, it would be a long hard overhaul process, but if Sawiris bending his back to his players and not the managers, it would be even longer, and Emery, seriously, hasn’t proved himself, at least Gerrard didn’t have these problems in Rangers, and they went undefeated in a season leading to winning the title. Emery records last year was okay, but that is because he is in La Liga, literally no.5 league in the world and only because of RM and Barca. No top players from La Liga or more than 98% has ever adapted to EPL and provided the same result, Ronaldo was a beast here, went there and challenged Messi straight away, moved from RM to Seria A Juventus and watched his performance collapsed, and went further down rejoining MU. Emery is no Pep Guardiola, sorry, he had best world class players in all positions, bought by Manchester City that allowed him to buy whoever he wanted to rebuild the team, never won the CL. Because EPL is entirely a different BEAST being no.1 league. Just have fun with the wins, but Villa have more problems than just changing managers.
You can include the Matty Cash handball against Fulham from a point blank cross from Mitrovic. Don’t expect miracles either. Until Emery clears the Chaff players from this squad & brings in his players there won’t be much gain. What I want is if things don’t go smoothly the fans don’t turn, there has been too much toxicity around us for too long & everyone needs to get behind him & believe in what he’s trying to achieve. Going off subject slightly, unless I've missed it I've not heard a peep from Purslow during this change of manager, from the sacking of Gerrard to the hiring of Emery and our Christian does like to be front and centre when things are happening. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but it adds weight to the rumours that there are changes going on in the clubs structure.
I honestly don't think Purslow had anything to do with it. He's been told to count the pennies and stay away from football decisions I'm sure!

Seeing that Man City gave a start to a 17 year old in the Champions League last night, let's really hope that Unai Emery has a solid philosophy of bringing forward our prodigious youth, instead of merely relying on bringing in established talent, with the risks involved that we've seen too much of.

Deano took us as far as he could. Gerrard was awful and took us backwards!
@@ryansmith-jr4gn I'm with you Ryan mate, gerrrard was not an improvement, I I knew 100% that deano loved our club and I knew that he would do whatever was needed to bring us on, I felt he was jacked on to cover up for purslows and langes bad buys myself. But let's see what our new manage brings, at some point they have to blame the people recruiting don't they???

@@leftmono1016 If thats true, why weren't we relegated? Why judge a season over just one calender year? When our captain and best player was absent for 6 months of those 12? Smith's last full season was Villa's highest PL finish since 2010/11(a season where we had 4 managers, one of which was here under Gerrard). Best finish in a decade and Smith generated £400m of revenue in 3 seasons while being in charge(promotion, staying up and selling JG).

Never really thought we would get anything other than a 0-0 draw, well we kept our side of the bargain! First half was okay-ish without actually threatening! It's out the way, we're at home next even it is UTD. We more than owe them but as we know, even with the New man in the dugout, it depends on which Aston Villa turn up!

It was Brentford who got battered 5 - 1 in their previous away game at Newcastle, plus they had won away at Spurs, so the 4 nil win against Brentford was probably a false indicator of Villa's form going into this game..
