That was truly a machine, I live in South Africa and many years ago I owned an E23 735i which was unfortunately stolen and never recovered. Although I have owned many other BMW's and still drive BMW, I would love to own one of these again. My father also had an E23 733i which I drove a lot as well.

The E23 733i and 735i were utterly fine driving machines. I also drove my late Dad 's E23 733i, and enjoyed it, together with his 728i. If can find either an E23 733i, or a 735i, I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

Firstly…as an Englishman, let me say how much I enjoy your ‘perfect’ English. I wish my compatriots had such excellent diction !
I drive a 2022 740d XDrive. It’s my 4the 7 series having owned 4 different shape ones, though not the one in the video.
I honestly think this current one looks superb and will become a future classic.
The performance, of course, is in a different league to the earlier models. Utterly effortless.

Safety zone, already tested in the 1980 316 in 1983. Works perfectly, can‘t imagine how much better it may be in the 7. our 316 hit a concrete aqueduct tube (the very big ones) with 120km/h, front-on, the swedish SARIS trailer broke his mount and flew 50m ahead, front-passenger only was „belted“, driver (no belt) 2 ribs broken, rear passengers, aside from shock and headache, nothing. Front came in towards the seat, but didn‘t reach it. Sure the car front was totally damaged, the engine still ran like a swiss clock, the rear was still perfectly straight. The good parts had long use with new proud owners.
Very different and really bad were the 3 series around 2003. On a normal little contact crash at the front the 320d front passenger airbag has a peaky edge and that hits the eye of the passenger, if he‘s not during the crash fully backwards oriented (can‘t happen with such forces at play). Bad BMW safety design, bad arrogant ignorance by BMW in damage dealing and continuation of the most stupidest airbag cover ever developed for far too long. My sister now has a dead eye/replacement. Thx BMW!
She was the rear passenger that was perfectly fine protected in the old 1980 316 crash.
So if you want protection in a car, take old-school safety from Volvo, Mercedes and BMW, but 80s, not 2000s. Yes they hit hard, but the cages protect very well. Modern stuff is convoluted with dangerous parts and crumbling everything means you‘re sitting in a cage of meteorites flying around to hit you. BMW proved it.

And yours was - is? - pre-facelift, which, in my opinion was the pettier of the 2 versions of the e23. The nose of the face-lifted e23 was boxy and boring where as the original one was forward leaning and bold.
