I just performed this procedure today on my 42mm Steinhart GMT. IT WORKS. I would just add to Be Patient! It took about 6 repetitions of hot water submergence to get the original Pepsi bezel's adhesive tape loose enough to remove the original bezel without damaging the watch or bezel. After cleaning out the old adhesive, the new Gnomen luminous ceramic Pepsi bezel went on with NO issues whatsoever. The new Steinhart luminous ceramic bezels look amazing and glow very brightly. They are a very worthwhile upgrade for the older Steinhart GMTs.
I have done this a couple times, one time it took two dunks in hot water. The other tool several. I wonder if the age of the adhesive comes into play. But either way, it works eventually. Glad it worked for you too!
@@burbinghard I thank you for these instructions. There's another guy on UA-cam who recommends drilling holes in the original bezel to pry it off and ruining it in the process. I suspect that you're right about the age of the adhesive being a factor. My Steinhart is maybe 5 or 6 years old, but it's still in otherwise perfect condition. With the new Gnomen luminous ceramic bezel it's more useable and looks even better.
I couldn't find where to buy a new bezel insert, as my old one ( 7 years old now) is scraped, scratched. Anny suggestion?
Thank You for that video
I have had some success with the use of grip tape solvent. This is used for removing the tape adhesive from golf clubs. I am going to try this method as well
Last night I upgraded from an aluminum to a ceramic bezel on my Ocean One GMT Pepsi 39mm. Very hot, almost boiling water and an x-acto knife did the trick. Rubbing alcohol, a q-tip and a bamboo toothpick got the old glue and gunk out preparing the watch for the new classy bezel. A little patience needed, but the whole process took maybe 20-minutes in my case.
awesome!!!!
how much mm is the bezel ? how to oreder one i would like to change mine from black to green
Where i can buy the bezel?
Интересно у меня на seikoга черепаха безель немножко не совпадает двенадцати часами буквально на пол деления если разогреть этот клей и чуть-чуть повернуть застынет останется наверное в таком же положении как положено?на 12 )))?
If i have the aluminium pepsi now, can i use a ceranic bezel instead?
On the Gnomon site is asks to select fit for aluminium or cermac when purchasing. Im not 100% sure if my original bezel is aluminium or ceramic, does it matter? Would have though they are the same size anyway.
thanks for your clip instruction, your watch like mine, ocean 39mm GMT i bought it from USA... i want to change new bezel but i am still afraid kkk i do not what water or chemical do you use??? i do not see detail sir. thanks
does hot boiling water damage the water seals in the watch?
is the old bezel shot? or can you reuse it?
Is this only applicable to Steinhart or will it work for essentially any brand?
Great video - but where do I find a bezel insert for my Steinhart 42 mm. in Europe?
Is it original bezel ring? And where did you buy it?
Steinhartmods.com makes them. I think I purchased mine through Gnomonwatches.com. They are aftermarket parts.
To save hacking at the insert with a knife just pop the bezel with a proper knife. Much less chance of damage and no adhesive residue left under the ring. Better to invest a few dollars in some tools than risk damage and onward issues with any rogue adhesive under the ring.
Reading the forums, the Steinhart bezels don’t pop off as easily as a Rolex. Most people in the modding community don’t recommend it for these models.
@@burbinghard interesting. I had no issue on my Ocean 39 with a misaligned ceramic bezel insert. But I have tools for building Seiko mods.
Hello, is that riscky for cyclop with hot water ?
I have never had an issue with boiling water which is only 100 degrees c. I have used this method with Steinhart crystals with cyclops. Maybe cheaper watches with cheaper adhesives on the crystal might have an issue. I have seen guys use a hot torch (flame) directly on the cyclops to melt the adhesive. A direct flame would be way hotter than boiling water.
That was making me nervous
Great video. It makes it easy when you see someone doing it.
Thank You.
