Thank you John, its helpful when you tell us if the plant will grow in our garden. Really do appreciate all the video's you guys are doing. Keep up the good work
I am an indian and live in north eastern part of indo chinese border. We have diffeent kinds of figs including this one. But we use the leaves more the the fruit while making rice beer to cover it. And many other purposees to wrap.this fig is big and sweet with a very good scent
Ficus carica common figs do not require pollination. San Pedro figs require pollination to set a main crop (their breba or early crop doesn't require pollination). Smyrna figs require pollination to set any crop. Outside of California, the ficus carica wasp has not established any colonies. There are thousands of common figs growing in people's backyards throughout the country and they do not have access to the wasp.
@@pswanberg1 Some common figs have been specifically bred to be self fertile. Edit: They are not self fertile, they set fruit without even being pollinated.
Hi Krishna, This could be many things, but a recently discovered pest for Fig trees in Southern California is the black fig fly. It's a common pest that bores through fig fruit, turning them brown and causing them to fail. See below for more info via UC Ag & Resources: www.cdfa.ca.gov/countyag/postings/files/Wilson_et_al_-_P.pdf It’s always hard to tell without seeing the plant in person and cutting open the fruit, but we recommend starting here. Cut open the fruit and examine if there’s tunneling going through it. If there is, it is most likely this. You can then set up traps to catch the flies and allow more fruit to ripen. Good Luck! It caught my eye during my recent visit. The emerging reddish-purple new growth was glorious in the sunshine.

I guess all those figs I'm eating fresh from my fig trees in Texas (they commercially grow them here too) are just fake figs?
