Thanks for sharing!
Another excellent video. I have learned so much from your work. Thank you!
Such very useful examples, I am still learning and debating on which brands I can afford to use. I am trying to keep an open mind I did get some Unison sticks, they seem much smaller in real life. I am hoping to get some Schmincke but I cannot find a good price that is in my price range. How did you decide on mostly Unison? Sennelier is also touted as a top brand and I did find a set of 75 for only $100.00 on e-bay, I have spent a lot of money on watercolor paints in the past, but they do last a very long time. Thank you for giving us your time and expertise here on UA-cam. It is very much appreciated!
I tried some Senneliers at the start and didn't like how soft and crumbly they were. Then I started using velour paper and realised they didn't suit that well. I had also tried Daler Rowney and Rembrandt and didn't like the hardness of them. They didn't glide onto the paper. Then Unisons came into my life haha. I can break them into small shards and they don't often crumble. For this reason, their sticks are good value for size as they last ages. I've got 1 or 2 of almost all the brands and the Unisons well are above average in size. The colour range and many other things made me favour them. There are other brands I like too but I went down the Unison tunnel early on as I love them. Schmincke I also find a little too soft, but I have a friend who uses all their colour range and it's beautiful. Happy pastel shopping!
Oh dear, when I see how many boxes of colours you have, I def. think I was very niave to think I might get far with my little 24'er box of soft oil pastels 🤣🤣🤣.But I can see how the wee shards are so valuable to have. 🙏💕
Thanks Emma, great advice!
Thanks again Emma for all your tips and advice I have treated myself to the animal set and really love it. Looking forward to your next animal paint along
I just got some new ones and I can’t take the paper off. I want to haha
You will when you NEED an edge for something. Temptation will be too much. You'll be breaking them next :-)
@@EmmaColbertArt Do you break the half sticks or just the full sticks?

Emma Colbert Art whoop whoop!! Thanks Emma! Xx
How do you remember the colour code/name when you need to reorder?
Good question! Once you start ripping papers off you could make a chart with the names and a sample of the colour beside. I have a lovely hand made Unison chart which I use as reference. They sell them from Jackson's Art too I believe if you search Unison chart. www.jacksonsart.com?acc=087408522c31eeb1f982bc0eaf81d35f&___store=jacksonsart_en
Thnx Emma. Are you not concerned that many pastels have toxic pigments in them? Even on velour paper that absorbs most of the pigment there is always going to be some micro particles in the air not to mention direct contact with your fingers. These particles can easily get absorbed into the body either through breathing them or through the pores of your skin. Many pastel manufacturers have, by law, warnings on their products.
