  • The Lidl Parkside Plasma cutter is one of the cheapest available & can be bought at your local food supermarket!
But is it any good? This video follows my first use of it, the return to Lidl & finally rectifying the problem.

Nice!!! I was going to suggest an air supply problem. Someone below suggested a straight edge. I use washers, different size angle grinder discs, and have even cut shapes out of 14 ga to make templates. Just remember to allow for the center of the tip to the outside of the tip in your measurements. I usually drag the tip on the work piece. It is a little harder on consumables, but I'd rather have clean cut lines when I'm making brackets. Don't worry too much about a pilot arc it helps with cutting metal that is not clean. From my understanding CNC machines don't use a pilot arc due to interference with the controller.

It works very well now the full air supply is going to the nozzle.

Run a bit of cable from the torch tip to the earth - voila, pilot arc. We use these at work hacked like that - they work great.

Hi thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not sure what a pilot arc is & why it helps.

If you want to cut a good straight cut surely you should move the rollers against a clamped straight edge
Doing it freehand will produce a wander ?

Try it dragging on the material without the wheels.

I've found that works better, but told to keep a good angle or it kills nozels

Dosent the book of destructions give a clue of power rating for material thickness to be cut. I would have expected it to be able to cut up to 3mm as it runs from a domestic 13A outlet and can your compressor keep up with demand?
The fact that the torch comes with wheels leads me to believe it is for sheet material

Well actually I did for this cutter, to check I was not doing something wrong before taking it back for a new one.

This machine comes with nozzles that are far too big. Throw them in the bin. Buy smaller ones, & it's a bit of a gem.

I've just bought some more nozzles, but the same size. I didn't know they came in different sizes. I just searched on eBay for nozzle for that cutter. How do I know the size, so I can buy smaller ones?

Perhaps you should take this video down and make a new one as anyone going to the end of the video will be mislead as to the problems all being operator error.

The first plasma cutter was defective, no operator error there.
