I heard this song on the radio one day sometime in 1992 or 93 (I think) and have been a fan of DCD ever since. Thank you to Lisa, Brendan and all other artists involved with this project throughout the years. You have enriched my life and the lives of many others.
Perfect... & unless you have seen them live, you cannot appreciate exactly how powerful Brendan Perry's voice is. It is more than incredible. It seems almost effortless.
...that happens because people surrender on hope, because we lost our morals...we should FIGHT it ! we should fight against cruelty and nowadays injustice ! we can survive...noone else can do this ! only we MORTAL people can do it ! ...we should stand up and fight for our rights !
Worked in strip clubs for many years, this song ALWAYS made the dancer money. One of the best bands to make love to...surreal,passionate, and deep. Thanks for posting it
Never let it be said I was untrue I never found a home inside of you Never let it be said I was untrue I gave you all my time ... sublime song writing.in every sense of the word.
Brandon, always MY own personal favorite half of Dead Can Dance, everyone usually likes Lisa more, how could a mixture of Jim Morrison and Frank Sinatra not be the most perfect voice, always wondered if this song wasnt his Lament to Lisa, supposedly they were lovers and they broke up and this record was produced at that time
One of the last bands that makes you feel well and in connection with the Universe. Imagine listening to them in Elqui Valley in Chile with just the great skies above you. It is an experience that every human being should have. Just you, your girl, some food and DCD.. Cheers from Chile!
@auditoryarmory Well, let's be honest, MOST pop singers (male OR female) are pretty awful artists. You can't really blame the singer so much... blame the people who fall all over themselves telling them how great they are, etc; blame the record companies, blame the PR guys, and blame the simplistic fools who BUY the music that's put out by those awful "artists." Also, for the record, Brendan Perry sings like a man should, so that helps. :)
'bad' is not synonymous with 'evil'. I mean, most children's art is 'bad', but it's not evil. And what exactly constitutes commercial to you? I mean, there is in fact good music that has sold in large quantities.
I ask in 2011...WHY can not more male singers sing with such conviction, richness, and tone as Brendan Perry? Why instead do we have all this whining that is passed off as "singing"?!
It's called a tamboura, not a sitar. DCD are utterly unique, and there is nothing else quite like them. However, if you enjoy this song, you'll most definitely love Jai Uttal's "Shiva Station" album. You should also check out the late, great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's "Night Song," Michael Brook's "Cobalt Blue," and Mari Boine's "Radiant Warmth." All feature similar instrumentation or moods, and are best described as "world fusion" in a decidedly "rock" context. They're all dynamic and rich.
i give you a simple examples...this year Eurovision if you know what i mean, look at Sweden , look at Great Britain's performers ? ...can you say they deserve victory LESS then Alexander Rybak, can you say Uzbekistan is really more talanted then Sweden's La Voix ? ...well...not me atleast...if you disagree with me, then its obvious you're brainwashed by todays standards of election...
...try to understand people just brainwashed by today's music standards, look at 90's what considered good then is considered bad now by the most, world is changing, but not in a good way and thats not my vision on things, thats an obvious fact ! ...we live in a time of cruelty and injustice, where rulers impose us their lifestyles and ideology...and its working people easily went into those games...we aren't even notice what this system, used against ourselves has a negative impact on us...
maybe you're right or maybe not...but my opinion is that its false...look you know there are evil and good things in our world...so you know smoking is a bad thing, whatever you'd say to aprove yourself (of you smoke), so you know that there's evil and good...i always in my life categorized music under evil and good too...and thats what i think how it works...rap and all other commercial music - evil...goold old hits like this and in general music from earlier generations - good...
its ignorant that you choose to critisize something as bad and jangly when its obviously diffrently persieved by others. perhaps you should consider that music isnt objective. Goth music evolved from punk music in the 80s and shares many of the same qualities still. goth guitar creates a dark and disturbing atmosphere. and, as your remark about modern goth music states, perhaps your knowledge of modern goth lacks greatly.
Original Goth was Bauhaus etc in the mid 80s, as an extension of New Romantic. This was released in 91, and I wouldn't ever describe it as goth. Their first album borders on it, but they've always been more than that. Modern Goth is rubbish, it's slightly less Cry baby Emo with really bad guitars... oh hold on, not changed much, although now adays instead of bad jangily guitars it's bad electronic distortion guitars.
The first time I heard this song I was entranced and mesmerized--I haven't stopped listening since. I wish they hadn't "disbanded" Dead can Dance was a wonderful group!
...never wondered why we loved hairstyles from 80's and hate it now ? ...never wondered why call now some 80's music CHEESY, when it was a huge and considered by the overall hit those times ? ...evolution you'd say ? ...barely...since 80's we're not evolving, we're degrading and nowadays cruelty and injustice is a prove !
So right... But doesn't it also sound like a very honest confession of how profoundly one person used to show his love to the other person (a woman, I guess), and how much she disappointed him? And I love it at the end, when he says "Never let it be said, I was untrue".
@auditoryarmory because men have been beaten into political correctness....instead of just being men and the food now has stuff in it that changes brain chemistry...and men whine like little girls...I mean their behave like women.
GOOD music isn't all about how much it is sold, good music is already good by its definition, no meter how people will buy it...for some reason there're always LESS GOOD things in the wrold, other then BAD things, and music is not an exception...
marvellous lyrics and one of my favourite tracks by dead can dance. i've often wondered whether brendan perry is singing about some personal thing in life or is he addressing the futilities of religions (slave drums). enigmatic stuff ;-)
I had this down in 2006 swapping all parts on a alter tuned guitar. I also did a Tim Buckley song. They were both very difficult but satisfying. Then I gave up playing music because of mundane idiocy in popular culture. All my friends were self marketing on FACEBOOK It killed my passion. I stopped playing.
I know, they removed it. Pathetic, to do such a thing, imho. I loved that video so much and shared it with people as an introduction into DCD. I don't understand youtube policy ....
@liverawkstar thanks... i joined songkick dot com and they just notified me Brandon and Robin are playing in D.C. this Monday - so now I have tickets and can't wait!
just had a guy swear to me that it was Frank Sinatra, Jr. on "The Carnival is Over." I had to play some live footage to convince him. Not sure he believes it yet! lol
wow! excellent sound! was in the dcd reunion concert in barcelone, brendan messed up on the lyrics of this song there. he's as good as piss in that live session.
Always gives me such a thrill listen to Dead Can Dance and Brendan Perry solo albums: i'm waiting for his new work ARK, that will be released in October!
Mmmmm..serious head music, Morrison in every sense of these words oh this brings me back mmmmm Never let it be said I was untrue, yes " What a deep voice of another world "
@raydlevel5 It's a *sitar*, which is an Indian guitar but the song isn't Indian influenced.. It's actually Middle Eastern.. The musicianship and the drumming is Lebanese..
Lol i ask the same thing also about the music.... like skrillex is passed off as MUSIC!? it's a collection of ignorant tones with positive vibe but just a tool for dumbing down the capability of deep thought and sense.

His voice is just incredible. Can't believe he sings here live, just too perfect👍.
good music and good message......
"In darkness my heart was wrong" that's a good answer for alot of questions.
Maravillosos Dead Can Dance
"The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove" was my first DCD song ever (at last conscious) that I heard. It was New year's eve 98/99.
this quality of sound is expectaculary clean and without dirty sounds thanks for sharing !
One of my absolute favorites. Thank you
I love the dead can dance
Poucos cantam ao vivo com tanta clareza.
Perfeito!
...that happens because people surrender on hope, because we lost our morals...we should FIGHT it ! we should fight against cruelty and nowadays injustice ! we can survive...noone else can do this ! only we MORTAL people can do it ! ...we should stand up and fight for our rights !
I've been there when it was played. My...It still is and always will be such amazing music. Deep and penetrating the soul on so many levels.
Worked in strip clubs for many years, this song ALWAYS made the dancer money. One of the best bands to make love to...surreal,passionate, and deep. Thanks for posting it

So cool how he plays the bass in this one.
This song rocks... I can listen to it over and over again... brendan's voice makes the day
Never let it be said I was untrue
I never found a home inside of you
Never let it be said I was untrue
I gave you all my time
... sublime song writing.in every sense of the word.
I sound just like this when I sing in the shower! or at least I think I do.
Dream on my dear
And renounce temporal obligations.
Dream on my dear
It's a sleep from which you may not awaken
This is absolutely AMAZING...even better than the album!!!
I was in the mood for this song and clicked this performance hoping for something close to the studio version. Wow and amazing indeed.
When not busy managing his crystal meth empire, professor Walter White rocks the stage with some sexy grooves...
First time I heard this, I remember thinking "Did the Doors put out something I didn't hear?"
First time I heard this song years ago I had goosebumps, reminded me so much of Morrison that it was freaky.

@ytcarol
well Brandon has dates with Robin Guthrie (cocteau twins) coming in weeks:
San Francisco and Los Angeles around the weekend of 6/11
Hypnotizing isn't it? Beautiful. Love the bassline and all the instrument choices!
One of my very first features on UA-cam :)
I *love* this performance ♥

heavy deep base, amazing voice. epic.

funny, the first time I heard this song I was working on an Arabian/Egyptian style poster. I love when music so perfectly matches the work Im doing:)
Mmmmm..serious head music, Morrison in every sense of these words oh this brings me back mmmmm Never let it be said I was untrue, yes " What a deep voice of another world "
Everything they do should be in a Cirque de Sole tour. The music is transpiring!!!
Nice! (My primary school PE teacher was called Mr Lovegrove, LOL)
Yup. Dead Can Dance has some really awesome live recordings. Some of my all time favorite versions of their songs are all lilve versions.
wacky song..but i like it very much ..reminds me of somebody i care very much for :)
@stingray1964 The are lie better then the CD version. Last year i was at two concert's of Brendan Perry & band, amazing!
nice recording, thanks...wish to Sea the rest of the Band? still, nice sound*
Is this full concert in the hague edited in DVD or other video format? or perhaps available in any torrent site?
@liverawkstar What a riot - "Jim Morrison & Frank Sinatra"! I felt that especially on The Carnival is Over.
How Much Do IOU My Good Friend!!! This is Brilliant
It is weird, but I think he sounds a lot like Frank Sinatra . . . . if Frank dropped acid. Nice voice.
Awesome. Always reminds me a bit of the Doors.
best song ever
definately an all time great. So powerful, not safe to listen to it all day long, but I want to.
if you dont love DCD then ur life must be shitty living in a smalll box sheltered from reality
these guys are smooth... sounds fully equal to the original studio take off Into the Labyrinth
sound quality of this video is tits. quality control approves!
This is great. Jim Morrison feel, but no temporal obligations.
I'm somewhere in the audience;) It was a magnificent concert, despite the keyboard player
This is a hell of a song. Amazing band.
Great song, sad message that I already used to express my disapointment with someone..t.
There were some mistakes, but it was a great performance! Brendan's voice is amazing!
I could sit here and call this "amazing" but that would just be stating the obvious.
my life- my untrust to women- it´s refleted on the song, whice I love, since 90´s.
I STILL LOVE THIS SONG...FOR ALL MY EXES....
The most devastating heart- sick song. It really captures it.
@cabomusico You're right it's from a dvd, the link have been posted on Lisa Gerrard's forum in the past. I just edited and uploaded it here.
reminds of the Doors...love that strange sound, is it an organ?
seriously???You think that we didn't have Goth back in the 80's?
what a fucking good idea... my two favorite bands reunited :)
The video is edited with the official recording of the hague that The show did for dcddisc :)
Can't get enough of this song
Hi,
He's playing a bass guitar on this performance.

@raydlevel5 It's a *sitar*, which is an Indian guitar but the song isn't Indian influenced.. It's actually Middle Eastern.. The musicianship and the drumming is Lebanese..
More than excellent. Words cannot describe it.

I wish Nine Inch Nails would cover this song.
