Thangam Debbonaire is clearly oblivious to how condescending and sneering she comes across. Rather ironic for for a woman who couldn’t hold onto her own parliamentary seat. Faiza is far too good for Starmer’s new nasty Labour Party.

@@2msvalkyrie529 Entirely untrue as a usual Starmer supporter, having to skew facts. They didn't reject her, if Labour hadn't removed her from the ticket, IDS would not be sat where he is right now. Labour was trying to bank on people wanting the Tories out more than they wanted to reject the Labour right. Context is important and you're as dishonest as Thangham in her angling on her vote for a ceasefire. Be quiet dear, your poor morals are showing.

exactly! Resoundly rejected by the electorate, and yet still smug in her own self-righteous believe and overbearing entitlement. The new constituency of Bristol Central should have been one of the safest Labour seats in England. Debbonaire's majority was huge at the 2019 GE when she retained the Bristol West constituency. The boundary changes meant the loss of the council wards of Bishopston & Ashley Down, Easton and Lawrence Hill. However these wards returned Green councillors as did all the council wards within the new boundary of Bristol Central. If the old boundary of Bristol West had been used then Debbonaire's defeat would have been worse as both Easton and Lawrence Hill have sizable Muslim populations. For anyone following events it was obvious Debbonaire was on the way out due to the election of so many Green councillors in May 2021 within 'her' constituency . The collapse in the Labour vote in that election coupled with the collapse in membership of the constituency Labour Party (which had been one of the largest in the country) signaled that Debbonaire's richly deserved Portilo moment was inevitable.

Thangam Debbonaire is very unpleasant. Condecending and patronising in equal measure. Working hard here in case a safe seat comes up sometime soon in a by-election so she can get back up the greasy pole. People voted Labour simply to be rid of the Tories. They didn't pay much attention to what they were actually voting for, because Labour were the only viable alternative. But now they are paying attention to what they elected (well, 33.7% of them did) and they don't like it much....especially Champagne Starmer. The more people of see him the less they like him. It will make no difference how many other people he gets rid of to save himself.....because he himself is the problem.

A significant part of Starmer's purge of the left of Labour has been a purge on anyone who has campaigned for Palestine. This inlcuded film-maker Ken Loach and Jewish members of Jewish Voice for Labour such as JVL founder member Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi, who was expelled within days of having been voted onto the NEC.
And Faiza Shaheen herself was deselected as a candidate - why? Because of her support for Palestine.
And no-one in this discussion mentioned the *6 elephants* in the room. *Unless and until:*
*1) The UK joins the EU once more, there CANNOT be economic growth.*
*2) Labour allow much more migration,* the shortfall of around one million skilled and unskilled workers will continue to inhibit/prevent greater productivity and by extension economic growth.
*3) The Labour Government move away from the Neoliberal (Free Market) Economic model to a Keynsian Mixed Economy model,* there cannot be a realistic plan either to repair/replace crumbling infrastructure or to tackle the huge inequality which has been created by Neoliberal policies for the past 4 decades.
*4) The archaic and dysfunctional First Past The Post electoral system is replaced with Proportional Representation (preferrably in tandem with the Single Transferable Vote)* then we cannot have a truly representative democracy, NOR can we have stable government with long-term planning, because a right-wing government will merely come in and tear down anything achieved by a progressive government.
*5) There is Independent Regulation of the press and media - including monopolies of ownership -* misinformation and disinformation will continue to be spread by the right-wing, billionaire owned and contolled press and media. Sadly Starmer agreed with Rupert Murdoch NOT to implement the reconommendations of LEVERSON 2. What a mistake.
*6) The government devises and agrees a Codified (Written) Constitution there are not enough safeguards for the UK's democracy. There is the ever-present danger of an extreme populist government to turn the UK into a one-party authoritarian state.

@@2msvalkyrie529 Given that the UK has a shortage of one million skilled and unskilled workers, and that in order to be able to increase production, we need these vacancies to be filled, we NEED migrant workers. In fact, every developed nation apart from Japan DEPENDS upon migrant workers.
Japan would benefit greatly from a migrant workforce, but their society is xenophobic to the Nth degree, so their economy has been stagnating for decades because they're unwilling to allow migrant workers into their country.
With an ageing population, the UK will go the same way as Japan unless we accept the need for migrant workers.
Migrant workers pay their taxes, and contribute to the UK economy.
And I for one have no problem whatsoever hearing a variety of languages being spoken when I walk down the street. But then, I'm not a racist or a xenophobe.
One other point which you have ignored is that a lot of UK citizens are emigrating - to New Zealand, Canada, Australia, some to Europe. This is especially true of doctors and nurses who have had a pretty raw deal in recent years. So we need migrant workers to replace the people who have left the UK or who are about to leave the UK.
We need care workers, builders, vets, butchers, engineers, you name it, we need them.
Unless you're a racist, why would you be against this?

To pull funding from them for their work in saving lives is ridiculous. And when labours position on Israel Palestine was brought up, she really didn't understand why people are sick to death of Starmer.
Nor was housing discussed, which is a massive issue in Bristol. What's she got to say about labours woeful action on housing? Nothing about rent controls, no fault evictions, higher council tax on people with multiple properties? I can't see Starmer doing any of the things.
All they talk about is building more homes, all relying on private equity to deliver. Private equity that only gives a shite about quick bucks and selling debt. Not decent affordable homes and community programs.
