Stories change over time like think about it with myths and legends there’s never really a true solid story throughout history and place but a lot of aspects remain the same.
It may have been due to the allies of, or those who agree with, the villains telling their side of the story. Overtime this may have caused the two versions to be seen as not happening at the same time. If I remember correctly, they didn't even know that much about the sultan, so it's plausible that this could have happened. Not to mention history does become muddled overtime. I mean, people used to believe that King Arthur was a real person and that all the things he did really happened. Idk that's just my theory, a twisted wonderland theory, thanks for reading.
