Very insightful and honest interview. I am not going hate on the boy and girl here, I appreciate their honesty. But I would encourage them to take a look at their own contradictions. They keep saying we are not racist but the fact that Vietnamese folks treat white people better than other races including the local Vietnamese, that’s the very definition of being racist. Stop saying you are not. It may seem harmless to have preferences but it has real negative impact to your own people when it comes to jobs and opportunities. White folks have a better chance of getting a job offer in Vietnam than the local Vietnamese. Stop doing that to yourself.
Absolutely. Imagine if they went to a Western country and someone was hired over them due to a racial hierarchy. In the Viet Kieu groups, all the overseas Vietnamese who come to teach English in Vietnam complain about how they're underpaid compared to their Western counterparts despite being fluent in both languages.
I find that most South East Asians are biased, they treat white people better than their fellow countrymen/women. As for teaching English in Vietnam, I am appalled that any white English speaking person can teach English. Just because your native language is English does not mean that you can teach it.
Because white, Japanese and Korean are more educated and civilized than other races. There are 300,000 Koreans and Japanese living and working in Vietnam since they invested a lot to this country, even a lot of Japanese owned restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.

@@binhphan The thing is that the Parents paid for their kids having a chance to speak to a foreigner from different ethnic backgrounds, not someone within their own group. There are hundreds thousands of Vietnamese English teacher get paid less than Foreign English teachers in Vietnam, so why should Viet Kieu ask for more?
Skye, probably the best way to alleviate "racism" is to wear nice clothing. I have seen psychology experiments where a person in distress laying down on the ground just wearing nice clothing is treated much better than someone who is not wearing nice clothing. It probably has to do with the opportunistic nature of humans, though the strength of any "civilization" is reflected in how well the worst off are treated. It takes the rare, strong individual, to objectively lift others, off the ground.
Nah, my partner's black and people in Viet Nam are absolutely racist, especially more so in the North. Very rarely, Vietnamese locals will absolutely love my girlfriend and dot over her. One time, I had one guy come up to me and whispered in my ear that he secretly liked black women and that he was too afraid to approach them. But the overwhelming amount of times, it's random mean, racist comments, cold shoulders when providing service, being ignored, those judgemental stares, being charged extra, etc.
@@binhphan I am so sorry that your gf being treated like that. It isn’t right. This is why it bothers me when they admitted that white people are treated better but then said “but we are not racist”. I get that everyone has preferences, but this is more than that. It’s the worshipping of whiteness that bothers me more than anything. And the fact that they are so unaware of their own racism.
I live in the north and I totally agree with your comment, things will be really difficult when/if I get married as I look indian. You can try speak Vietnamese, have a good job, good money, be respectful, people here will still consider you as shit.
It's true.. vn people particularly the older generation are racist especially against Black's... It's just the way it is. Especially even the ones that have been living abroad
I am a white European guy living in Saigon. I prefer dark skinned women. I dont like white pale skin. It is subjective. But i really think brown skin is more attractive.
The grass is always greener. Best scenario is USD income living in a country like Vietnam. The US is wayyyy overrated imo. Sure you can get $1.50 hot dogs at Costco, but rent will be $2k-$4k to live in a major city. Add in a car note, sky rocketing insurance, inflated food prices, a predatory healthcare system, crime, homelessness, racism, inequality, and suddenly this place isn’t so great.
This is classic problem of the grass is greener on other side. Also a lot of people think that the life in asia is better than in the west. I think we are more similar than we want to be. We all have almost the same problems, just sometimes in different ways. At the end we should make our countries better with our hands
Thanks for this interesting insights. I do agree about several topics. new to me is the difference between Viet kieu & overseas vietnamese, which I am. This show off game is like Don said annoying, there more it‘s so energy consumed to listen to all this. the worst is, those kind of Viet Kieu‘s do it everywhere, same here in Switzerland, they do show off for example to USA Viet Kieu and opposite too 😂😂😂 Skye I do feel the same, unfortunately. When I‘m in Vietnam I had bad experience too. Whatever I say(my vietnamese level is quiet good even I don’t get in touch with vietnamese everyday) or do for them it‘s „not good“ and they always have to make a comment. especially as a north vietnamese speaker, have to hear a lot of comments which is not relate to my person ar all. from my perspective I try to be comphrensive for many topics but often they push me to the limit. Just I wish they also put the glasses on to understand the other perspektive. We or I didn‘t choose to born and raised outside of Vietnam, neither is our fault to get all these opportunities, so just accept the difference. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭🧀
The guy is correct about several of the stereotypes he mentioned about people in the USA. Obesity is a big problem here. It is even glorified by followers of a certain rap artist. Also women do tend to be very independent. The guy was very polite and apologetic every time he spoke about people in the USA. I appreciate that. BTW, in my opinion Vietnamese women are the most beautiful women in the world. There is something special about them. They seem to embrace their feminity. The younger ones know how to perfectly blend being strong and feminine at the same time. And their fashion sense is unmatched.
To your guests: Great job speaking English! Most Americans speak only one language and when they visit non-English countries they expect everyone to speak English.
This kid doesn't explain it well, dark skin tone people in Vietnam is consider poor or a coolie. Because only a coolie has to be outside in the sun and working on the field. It has nothing to do with racism, but more toward discrimination. Light skin complexion is consider to rich or affluent. Obviously, because they are rich therefore they are always in door.
That's part of it, but also compare Sub Saharan Africa and South Asia to Europe or East Asia. People can cry all they want but the results speak for themselves.
I am from Montreal Canada, I have taken 2 vacations to Vietnam in just 2 years. Here in Canada and USA you become a servant to the corporations that you talked about, like Amazon and others, because they are starting to control everything. Vietnam has so much to offer... I will return to Vietnam again some day...Love Vietnam
Girls from 30 to 35 want to learn english to marry with foreigners it’s ok but also have a lot of foreingners they want to get marry with vietnam girls, but also have a lot of girls thay want to study english for their job
He said Vietnam is one of the top rated hospitable places in the world. This is not true. Vietnam has the worst returning rates for tourists. Meaning people don’t like to come back after one visit. Thailand is rated much higher for hospitality
I can think of other reasons why people might choose not to return to Vietnam after their initial visit. Doesn't necessarily mean the hospitality isn't good. And it also depends how you measure "good hospitality" - it's very subjective.
@@tyyg9469 Noise, chaos, pollution, litter/trash, traffic, overcast smoggy sky much of the time in some parts, touts, easy to get sick, relatively strict visa policies, can be extremely rainy, dangerous roads, long distances between cities, limited western food options, lack of English.... It's not a paradise. Yes, Thailand has many of these problems too but is still a more popular destination, so clearly has more positives to compensate. Quite simply, people choose to visit places which are interesting to them. The level of hospitality is just one of countless secondary considerations which might influence their decision. You can get what most people would deem "good enough" hospitality in just about any tourist destination.
I really appreciate this conversation. I was actually shocked when I felt people treated me differently having white skin, I'm trying to get away from that typical white privilege. But over time I understand it. Just always find it funny how most white people try to get sub and darken our skin, we even make fun of pale white people, they are seen as unhealthy. Also the skin whitening products are funny 🤣 I found that unfortunately viet people think all Americans are rich. While we do feel rich while we are in Vietnam, living in America can be more difficult for many Americans. Vast majority of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck one paycheck away from being homeless and without healthcare. 50 % of Americans have a 6th grader reading level, so our education system is failing. Anyway I know being poor in America is still better than most places, its just not as easy in America as people make it out to be. I will say Vietnamese people are so hard working, most jobs work 12 hours with only one day off and only making 150 or 200 a month, Outside Saigon. I love looking at how resourceful Vietnamese people are. Everywhere you go people are working and making repairs. Everyone just opens up restaurants right in their house. The treatment of animals is still sad for me, but i understand it's like that around the world. Good interview

Oh I’m single would love a Vietnamese lady xx
The guy say VNese people are not racist but describe them as acting differently depending on the skin. That’s making hierarchy based on skin or nationality, so it’s basically racism.
Not necessarily. Preference for lighter skin is a social aspect, not a racial one. Rich people, the nobility, did not have to work in the fields, they lived in palaces and did not expose themselves to the sun. But they were of the same race as their servants, they did not consider themselves a different race.
They're prejudiced but not necessarily racist (though I'm sure some are as there are racists in every country). Even hierarchy based on nationality isn't necessarily racial (for example, they may treat Japanese people differently than, say, Chinese people).
If you “prefer” some race so much that you give them better treatment, than the other race, that’s racism. It’s not just simple preferences like choosing between light skin versus dark skin when dating, it’s deeper than that. It’s the idea that whiteness is better and deserved to be treated better. It has real consequences. A lot of local Vietnamese were denied job opportunities over white people because of the idea “white is better”. It’s harmful.
so many naieve stereotypes and yes racism but thinking not racist. Its more about opportunity. thats why i work hard to get rid of a communist passport to get a free world one but i live in asia ha ha. so i see all sides. in the end jealous is negative energy vibe. just be the best human you can be
As black man traveling SEA and currently in VN I can say this: the obsession with whiteness is ALL over Asia. People bleaching their skin, eyelid and nose surgeries, using umbrella in the sun, etc. In the states, if you are too pale then you are considered sick. Whites make fun of other whites that are too pale. Also whites tend to tan their skin darker, get lip filler, get bigger butts and wear so much makeup that they look like a different race. The whites in USA & UK for example are obsessed with black and latin features (bigger butts, tanned skin, hairstyles, clothing, bigger chest, etc). Theres subtle racism as well as colorism everywhere but the obsession with whiteness as the beauty standard in Asia is very noticable as someone from the USA. Also rap is not American culture its black culture. I think the folks in this video need to travel more.
@chrisconley7792 there are more black people in Brazil than in the United States. Rap is not part of Brazilian culture but rap is known as American black culture. As for culture Elvis Presley used to sneak into the black clubs in Memphis, Tennessee on Beale Street to learn how black people dance. When he went on the Ed Sullivan show the camera did not show his movements from his hips down. This was during the Jim Crow Era when it was illegal for blacks and whites to congregate in the same social settings. I think what's missing is that we live in a different world where we can travel easily and communicate easily due to the internet. There is no reason to treat a white person in a coffee shop better than someone of color or treat the person of color similar to a Vietnamese but reserve the better treatment for the white person. No one should be rewarded for accidental genetics. No one chose the race they were born into.
Compare Africa to Europe and East Asia where light skinned people are from, big difference and no people in the UK are not 'obsessed' by Africans. Most want them to leave, same in all of Western Europe. Stop trying to push your USA clownworld on others. Without Whitey you would be living the same as Haitians
Europe and East Asia compared to South Asia and Sub Saharan Africa. The results speak for themselves and you guys have way too big an opinion of yourself.
Also your whole region ripped off Western Europe. The only reason the US is relevant is what European migrants did during the industrial revolution from the late 19ty century and during the 20th century. Hip Hop and playing basketball is not something that people who are intelligent value much.

Why asians not arrested for running sex for sale cat houses and poon parlor massage parlors globally? How do asians graduate US Universities with Doctoral and advanced degrees but as fact speak and understand English at a lower less than rudimentary level? HTF can any asian preferably hired just because they are asian to facilitate US corporations in doing business with asian nations exploiting poor asian labor not themselves buck up and admit they are indeed treated special? Why does any asian allow any foreign corporation to exploit their asian brethren?

The thing is that the Parents paid for their kids having a chance to speak to a foreigner from different ethnic backgrounds, not someone within their own group.
There are hundreds thousands of Vietnamese English teacher get paid less than Foreign English teachers in Vietnam, so why should Viet Kieu ask for more?
The college and education alone is worth all sacrifice you can make.
I love Vietnamese people!! 😊💜 Thanks for your honesty in this video.
In life you also have to be able to accept that you don't just have to reap the benefits.
Then life is easier :)
Your fetishization of Vietnamese woman is creepy bro.
Fashion sense? I don't see many wearing traditional clothing
I love montreal. The quebecoise girls are hot af hahaha. I wanna go back… You hear me Sabrina?!?
Don't like $1.50 Costco hotdog too much. It will clog your arteries.
Once in a blue moon perhaps. Not on a regular basis.
@ what are the other reasons?
@@tyyg9469 limited Visa and seg tour is banned in Vietnam
@@eddiegrant58 so if Thailand has these same problems, what are the “positives to compensate” that bring people back to their country?
New vid on if people would marry a business owner foreigner that has relocated to Vietnam?
I really appreciate this conversation. I was actually shocked when I felt people treated me differently having white skin, I'm trying to get away from that typical white privilege. But over time I understand it. Just always find it funny how most white people try to get sub and darken our skin, we even make fun of pale white people, they are seen as unhealthy. Also the skin whitening products are funny 🤣
I found that unfortunately viet people think all Americans are rich.
Damn first girl is cute

I thought viet kieu means your parents are vietnamese but you were born and raised not in vietnam so same as overseas vietnamese is it not?

Why Only talk about americans and skin?? Look at Europe, is more tolerant and admire asian culture... I was this summer in Vietnam and I love it. I hear in this video some racism what don't exist with europeans. Europe is very different than América. Look at there, european union have the best agreements with Vietnam, the best in Asia.

We whites are the same as you, we are equal to you, no better than you young sir, just different.
27+ is left over in chinese culture goodluck. for women.
so biased
@you didn’t get it. They just prefer lighter skin of any race, not any particularly ethnic group.

Nice topic ,,,but still found weird Vn local new gen still hv the american dream or trying to out to Eu . while they can have more option not far in SEA like msia for the cheaper cost and will be more exposure to multi culture and is a good steeping stone to them to connect to the world as most uni or college cert easily connect to the world and get recognition . the other Sure will be spore as the education is top notch and in world ranking while many job opportunity working in MNC company . just some personal opinion on more education and career path as that they can make a big impact n change to Vn . education for me is not just the paper u get, more important the multi culture and the organisation working style that will be eye opener and that the opputurnities for local vn connected to the world . with that after live nor work's .. finished the study ,,they might come bck to contribute more n shape another form of quality leader that will make a impact to Vn

I was amused by a group of constantly smiling vietnamese language students last year. I was asked to help them with cnversational english and agreed. Question after question later I interrupted them and told them they are not speaking nor understanding english. I told them instead they are speaking with each other using non verbal cues as communication. So I offered to speak with just one person a female and we spoke as if in the USA. She was not bad until i began talking of normal male/female activities. SHe became shy and afraid even though we in the middle of bui vien st.
In USA we have plenty asians from all areas who get special treatment and actually treated better than most citizens. We welcome them but always without fail they retreat to their own race as true friends while searching for a white man to marry. Most also force their beliefs even if not applicable to a given situation, Also they force their cultural beliefs on others as if others have no culture. Asians arrive in the USA to make money and send it home to asia as a rule also.
We arrive in asia to experience culture but end up paying for the pleasure. We are accepted only because we pay not because asians are happy to be with us or see us.
How do they get special treatment?
? U kidding? It is not obvious to you an assumed asian beneficiary?
WHY do viets and other asians arrive in USA as foreign students or scholars refuse to leave preferring to stay as brides for white males? Why if even 1% proud to be an asian they not go back to their home nation to build and improve it and their own University system? Why do so many asians arrive in USA working illegally suck money in peddling fried rice and noodle gumbo from poor americans. Where is asian pride in a fishy cat house or a giggle giggle silly video game?HIstory repeats itself with people like you it seems. Instead of being duped you self exploit by selling out to get paid shitting on your asian peers in the process.
