So I did some research on the “new” Sydney. Turns out that one was made for the fossil outlets. It took a lot if digging to see what was going on. Fossil discontinued the Sydney in their main store .
And brought in the Rachel, the Fiona. And made the Sydney more affordable for the outlets. Like all outlet stuff there are differences. I was so excited to get the pink one last month. But when I saw the feet missing and the card slots missing I was kinda bummed out.
But I knew you would do a proper review soon😍 and you did!!!

I was wondering if the pink one was a knockoff or something. Thank you so much for the info Corrina, and personally, I don't think they should make those bags for outlets like that. They're doing the same thing that the knockoff people do and that's tricking people.

I feel like they cheapened up the newer one. I hate that they don't come with the key or feet!! Though I love the color! I have the original brown one!!

They are both original, in France we have all Fossil like the pink one!
Great comparison! I noticed that the Fossil Sydney has been appearing on TJ Maxx, etc. but as previous commentors have stated, I think they're coming from the Fossil Outlets. The Sydney line has been discontinued from their regular lines and they probably brought it back through the outlets due to its popularity. I noticed something similar with the Explorer line. There is a quality difference but it's a pretty bag nonetheless. It's a shame Fossil didn't keep the Sydney Satchel in their regular line as a staple Fossil bag. The newer stuff they're coming out with is kinda blah. Also, they are cutting back on quality by adding PVC trim on what would normally be an all leather item. It's a trend with many handbag designers unfortunately. Btw, that Pink bag is beautiful and I know you're going to fill it up with your cutest accessories. Thank you for sharing! 😊

I just got one made in Cambodia from the Outlet Online in Cabernet color and it has the newer pocket set up, no key keeper or credit card slots. Logo is embossed gold "FOSSIL" like your pink bag. The hardware has a brass look. The leather is smoother and it DOES have feet. No feet would be a deal breaker for me. The exterior pocket width goes a tad passed the handles and my Samsung S7 is completely hidden in the depth of the pocket with about 1/4 inch to spare. The Outlet Online says the bag was made specifically for the Outlets and typically that means they cut corners. This version is close enough to the original that I really like it. I am waiting on brown and black to be delivered.
I have to say I like the original one better I feel like the quality is better on that one.

They come with the key, yours just didn't have one. The updated ones are sold at Macy's. Fossil just changed it up because if you want to keep the bag affordable, you remove some the features and change the place where they are made. For eample, no feet and card slots are made, and some bags have pleather handles and trim. I also noticed the leathers are slightly different too. The changes are made to keep the price down. They just cut corners. You have to know how marketing and retail works. I returned my last fossil bag, because the bag was leather, but the handles and trim were pleather.
The Fossil Sydney that I purchased from Marshalls or you can also get from TJ Maxx doesn't come with the key. You can see that in other videos. I agree that Fossil is making them cheaper for outlets. My original Sydney has all of the features and I wanted to let everyone know that there is a difference between the original and the one that can be purchased from Marshalls or TJ Maxx. A lot of designer brands are cutting corners on their bags now and it sucks :( Thank you so much for watching my video :)
valentinecandiez The ones that you buy at Marshall's and TJ Maxx are bought from department stores. Fossil doesn't make handbags specifically for these stores. These stores are "outlets" but it is not the same as those outlets that sell an exclusive brand. Marshals, TJ Maxx, Ross, and Homegoods, all buy what the department stores don't sell or last season's things. You as the buyer, get them at a substantial marked down price.
These newer Fossils, as well as other handbags, are not as well made and corners are cut. If they were too over priced, no one would buy them. Did your first bag come with a dustbag? Older Fossils came with dustbags.
I just ordered my Sydney from the fossil website in black, and even though it’s the newer version, they must have updated it again because mine came with the feet:) and inside where yours had 1 slip pocket, mine has two🥰 I think it is a really great bag! I am a Dooney addict but I’ve been wanting to get a Sydney for a long time! I love the zipper all the way down both sides🤩
I just went to a fossil outlet and spoke the guy there in great length. He explained that fossil made the sydneys, really any of their bags with no feet, no key, and different color lining for the outlet stores. I asked him specifically about the tag that says "like style" and he says those are the bags made for the outlet stores. The outlet store offered it as 40% off plus an additional 20% off. They didn't have any sydneys but I bought a dusty rose Jori that is pretty similar with just a few differences. I had my eye on a navy blue one too but that it'll have to be for later in the fall.

Thank you very much for this video, very informative. I live in the UK and I have a black Sydney from about 3 or 4 years ago and really want a brown one. They had some in brown, blue and printed ones on the British version of TJ Maxx website, but I was hesitant to purchase because they had the differences you talk about in your video, and I was so worried they were inferior or even fake that I didn’t purchase one and now they are out of stock. Your video has reassured me, thank you, and I keep checking back in case they restock as I’m so desperate for a brown one.

Hi, i just bought one of these bags online and it says its made from synthetic cow hide leather. I was actually expecting it to be genuine leather as it is very expensive. Do you think its fake?
Hi! Thank you for this review, it was so helpful. I’m thinking about buying the new Sydney model. If you don’t mind I have some questions. Have the handles on the pink one started to fall down? I’m asking because some say the material in the new handles are a bit different than the original. Also, do you feel the new one gets as soft as the original after using it for a while? Some also say the new ones have a more “stiff” leather. Thank you so much for the video.
Louise Stridsberg I just ordered a newer version on the Fossil website and should be receiving it on Thursday or Friday. I am too curious if the bag will be stiff... she made a video of this same bag stuffed and it looked like the leather was already softer... or maybe I’m just crazy 😜
I have the original Sydney Satchel in what I like to call the “orla kiely” Print. I also have the gray one that I recentlybought at T.J. Maxx. Love both, but my gray is such a squishy leather and I love it. You did a great comparison. Thank you!!

I have the original one and it was made in the Philippines. And the Fossil patch inside is not diamond shaped but a egg shape.
I just found a dusty rose at Marshall’s today and I love it. I had a camel one before and didn’t care for all those card slots. I love this rose one, and like that my phone goes all the way down in the front pocket. Thanks for the video.

Also i was wonder if the outlet bags interior fabric different from the original. I have some original fossil bags and the lining mainly are the same color as the bag and the fabric is a thicker better quality than my outlet Sydney satchel.

Looks to me like they took the cheap way out with the newer one. They took away all the extras that mattered. The feet, key leash, card slots....

Nice comparison. I own the original in black and brown and still haven't used them since I am on the fence about keeping these vs. Michael Kors Grayson. I like the feet on the original, but I think most people would do okay without the credit card pockets if they carry a wallet.
I had the Michael Kors Grayson at one time but sold it. It is a great bag and might re-buy it one day. The Fossil sydney I do prefer over the Grayson though. Thanks so much for watching :)
