It was my pleasure to see Kirsten, Corelli, and Colzani in Fanciulla back in the early 60s in Philadelphia. In my opinion they were all perfect for their rolls.

Kirsten was the first opera singer I saw in concert. I was only 12. At 19 I saw Corelli in Fanciulla and got his autograph. I love this opera... so different with a variety of characters. I was already in love with him from his movie of Tosca. Luckily I saw him 3 more times.

Corelli is fantastic in the famous stolen melody at 7 02
She was one clever woman.
Singing even dramatic roles without getting overtaxed.
A limited amount of performances every year using a very developed lyric voice with care.

If Puccini isn't your cup of tea, then I'm not sure what it is that makes Corelli wonderful... That's like loving carts but not being such a big fan of horses.

@@ernestogiusti5802 You are one of two people that I've met that did NOT like Puccini - so you are outvoted!
Corelli is a great tenor, but this role did not suit him very well - though he did sing some arias (e.g. Ch'ella mi creda) brilliantly. Del Monaco's rendition of this duet with Eleonor Steber is the best I've heard.
Why did it not suit him?

Thank g-d you have the decency to admit that this opinion pure preference. This type of hysteria present in the admiration of our beloved art is understandable. But nevertheless, it is extremely unfair to discourage others from accepting the artistic offering of a capable voice because of personal preference. Bias is dangerous.
